  • Almost every recreational golfer cold drive the golf ball further and straighter if they hit the middle more often. Heel and toe strikes create unwanted curve and loss of distance so hitting the centre is a must.
Chris shows you a simple trick to improve your driver strike and this is a move used by US golfer Bryson Dechambeau.

This absolutely was what I needed! I've been puring my other clubs, but was always heel side with the driver. Great lesson

Amazing, I’ve tried setting it up on the toe but mentally I overcompensate and still come over the top. Great vid!

I tend tend to have more of a toe strike but I still love this. So simple. Will make me rethink how I set the club behind the ball.

Wow Chris! I went to the indoor driving range today and sprayed the face of my driver with foot spray and yes.....each strike was indeed heel side! My swing path is about 2-3 degrees out to in and my face is open to the path about 4-5 degrees. I tried this tip and moved my ball towards the toe at set up, hovered the club and I hit the ball straighter and sometimes my ball flight was actually a baby draw. I'm going to continue to work on this technique, but so far I'm encouraged. Thank you for the awesome tips. I really enjoy your video instruction. Cheers

Thank you so much for this simple tip. I hover the club and set it on the ground and pull back from there. I had no confidence standing over my driver before this tip because every drive was heel after heel. I was completely lost. This has saved my driver and given me the confidence to simply step up and rip like I can do with all my other clubs.

Amazing Video! This is a great tip! I’ve been really trying to fix my slice and after watching this video I feel like I found the answer! I now have a beautiful fade that I can easily play instead of a wicked slice.

Oh my!!! That just looks like what I need. I was fit for the G425 with graphite shaft.; I broke 2 shafts before I even got the club out for a round on the course. Plan to get to the driving range early this morning and give this a try!!!

I was experimenting with this a couple of weeks ago. Though I didn't hover the club, I set up with the ball positioned at the toe and let the club head sit on the ground. Worked really well for getting center contact! But you have to trust yourself get to the right place at impact, otherwise you may reach a bit.

To me, an important factor is intention for the shot. If I'm trying to maximize high launch, low spin, I will tee the ball high, some 3 or more inches off the turf, allowing for a positive attack angle that is more like 8-12 degrees. In this case, I will address the ball with the toe of the club behind it, sometimes even so that the far edge of the toe is just barely aligned with the ball/tee. Of course, I'll check and adjust to know the center will line up for where the club will be in the air during impact. However, if I'm just trying to hit a fairway finder, I'm not going to be teeing it nearly as high and in those cases, setting up with the ball around the center of the face is more functional. For amateurs, I think it can be confusing because folks see the pros tee it lower and have a more neutral to slightly positive attack angle, due to their swing speed (which means they can also play the ball roughly middle of the face at address); however, the general advice to amateurs is to tee it high to maximize launch and distance. So we end up teeing the ball up in such a way that causes mishits because they don't know to adjust based on relative tee height. Taking the time to play with this, learn it and adjust for different shots and conditions has made a tremendous difference in my ability to drive the ball well on the course.
