Mistake-proof Your Golf Swing Like Bryson DeChambeau

- Can you have a golf swing that is mistake proof? This is exactly what Bryson DeChambeau has been displaying as he continues to be one of the most successful players on the PGA Tour. Even though I don't really believe in "secrets" I do believe that swing secrets are simply biomechanical advantages established from how you position the body to strike a ball on the ground with a stick.
The Single Plane Golf Swing Book: www.amazon.com/gp/product/161...
What is a mistake-proofing a golf swing? It means that you have a biomechanical advantage. It can be described as a position of the body that creates an advantage whereby eliminating variables. The elimination of the angle of the wrist at address, fully reaching the maximum ulnar deviation of the lead wrist, created a biomechanical advantage for Moe Norman and is also why Bryson DeChambeau is quickly becoming the next great ball striker on the PGA Tour.
We call this elimination of the angle - The Single Plane Golf swing which starts the club, through the proper ulnar deviation, on the same plane as impact. The Single Plane swing a biomechanical advantage, and not a quick fix golf technique. It is a system, beginning at address, that simplifies the most important moment of the golf swing - impact.
Starting at address on two planes where the arms hang straight down at address, the Conventional golf swing is complicated. Because the arms are hanging straight down, a conventional golfer must lift the body into impact creating stress on the back.
This upward movement to accommodate the two planes is unnecessary.
The Single Plane Golf swing simplifies the golf swing by eliminating the need for the upward movement by starting and impacting on the same plane.

bro... i apreciate the simplicity but the swing is ugly
In your preset should you have your left knee slightly flexed so you make sure to hit that point on the downswing transition? @toddgraves
@@matthewhennessy257 No. I dont recommend that.
the swing pocket guide link doesn't work...
@@AGB-vy2ci Try again. Seems to be working now.
Brother, I watched this video in between Zoom calls and had to take it to the range after work. I was crunching the ball better than I have in the past 3 years! This works people! Thank you so much.
Chiropractor here. As someone who studies human movement this makes complete sense. Everything about close packed positioning is correct. The same principles we apply to manual adjustments to repeat consistent treatments every time. When I watched Bryson drive his way to US Open victory I wondered how he could rip it fearlessly down narrow fairways with devastating rough either side. Now I realise that his swing eliminates deviate movement errors using this method. Amazing work! Thanks for the video
Closed pack of wrist is not UD
He "ripped it fearlessly" ... because he didn't care if he got in the rough. He just muscled it out of there . I beleive he "set a record" for LEAST fairways hit of any U.S Open champion :/
Chiropractors are made fun of constantly because what they do isn't a science and totally only produces temporary results, but chiropractors have crippled others. You might not lead with that in the future because it makes you look stupid
This sounds like solid tips, I've already stiffened my arms and it helped I can't wait to try to address to lower body issues as well this weekend.
Todd, amazing!!! I saw your video and was on the range for 30 mins to test drive it. The results are unbelievable. Thanks so much for sharing it, I really appreciated it.
You are a very good teacher, because you keep things very simple and clear. Your video is very helpful. Been playing golf for over 40 years. Enjoyed your explanations! Thanks 🙏🏼
I adopted this swing in the mid '90's from the original Golf Digest tape. Made me straighter, just as long, and no more back problems. It's liberating to know that when you stand over the ball, you'll make more solid contact and it will be straighter and in play.
I had the privilege to sit with a half dozen others before an exhibition Moe did near where I live and listen to him talk about not just the mechanics of the golf swing, but on the mental side. 'If you think you can, you will. If you think you can't, you won't." And that's a lesson for more than your golf game.
Nice too see you carrying on his memory Little Moe.
M
No back problems sounds wonderful!
Great story!! And that quote "If you think you can, you will" especially applies to making putts!
Thank you Todd. Now everybody talks about GG's swing and actually I saw many his videos, but during my practice I gradually find the importance of spacing as you talk about in your video. Now the swing hero is Bryson Dechambeau. Your analysis of his swing is perfect explanation. I will practice as you suggested next week. Thank you very much indeed. I will also review Moe Norman's simple swing.
Thank you!! I have just subscribed! This is how I was taught to swing 29 years ago! Through the years my swing was changed and all of a sudden Slice and no accuracy! So I am off to the driving range tomorrow to find my old swing!! You have a new Fan! Regards from South Africa!⛳️🏌🏻♀️🇿🇦
My buddy sets up his drives just like this. I've always thought it looked really awkward, but seeing it explained fully makes me want to get out and practice. Great video.
Holy Cow!! excellent video. I've golfed for 20 years. Tried it at the range Friday, Saturday 18 holes, Range Sunday, Sunday 18 holes, I hit nearly every single fairway. What shocked me the most - the ball flight path - solid straight forward with no fade or draw - perfectly straight! Eyes on target - ball goes there. I'm loving this so much. Thank you for breaking it down in a way which translates to the average golfer like me. I also applied to my rescue - clean , perfect contact with great ball flight and distance.
This is the most clear explanation of the Single Plane Swing that you have done Todd! Well done! Thank you!
Todd, after watching your Single Plan golf swing and watch Bryson’s swing again. I tried to do the set up as your video, the 1st time yesterday at the golf simulator, I can hit 15 yards further already. This change is amazing.
Thanks so much….. will continue watching more of your videos. Thanks 😊 🙏 again.
Tried this out over the last week & it's incredible, to me I could never get a lot of yardage on my drives even though I put a lot of effort into it, with this stance & grip I can really let go & I'm getting more distance & straighter shots, the ball hits the club face more on line which gets the distance, I do not use this for my irons as that's not been a problem, but for driving & fairway woods it's been brilliant, thanks Todd.
I worked with Todd professionally for a number of years and he is the real deal. He not only brings incredible passion to his teaching but understands the swing like nobody else out there. It’s wonderful to have Bryson’s swing supporting the methodology from both a science and success standpoint. If you’re frustrated with your game, this is your answer. Keep it up TG!
A great video and simplistic explanation of this exciting golf swing. My lad and I are off to the driving range this morning to try it out having watched a guy in the next pod to us yesterday doing the exact same thing - his consistency and distance was superb 🏌🏾♂️
Thank-you Todd. That was the best breakdown I’ve ever seen.
Best breakdown / instructional I've seen, most guys over complicate it, like you've described it's just simple physics + biomechanics, well done!
Awesome video. I tried just the space elimination part before watching this video yesterday and hit my first 5 greens in regulation. Takes some getting used to, but can’t wait to get all the steps to muscle memory. So much more fun on the range than practicing same old swing. Thanks for lesson TG!
Glad it helped!
Pure swing. I will practice it as I already was moving to a more simplified and repeatable swing. Thanks for the video.
Todd, I really appreciate your passion in explaining this Sytem! Thanks a lot!
Wow. I just watched Phil Michelson post round interview in the Travelers. The awe and respect he voiced for Bryson shocked me. He was almost speechless describing the distance/accuracy that Bryson is achieving.
Thats good.
What I love about this is that everything that could get out of sequence in my 6’4” 200lb frame is almost eliminated especially as my body and mind fatigue throughout the round or practice
I’m 6’6 and looking for a new set of irons. What do you swing and did you have to get them extended? My biggest issue on the course is the clubs are too small
@@benjamindecker3322 why don't you get the shafts fitted specifically for you?
This really helps us bigger guys. When I played a lot and was younger it drove me crazy how small the grips were. Now that I started playing again these larger grips make a huge difference is huge difference in consistency
@@benjamindecker3322 Get fitted if possible, if not look at the Ping fitting charts. Your wrist to floor measurement not the height really is the determining factor on club length.
I'm 6'3'' and run plus 1/2" due to my wrist to floor being 38" with a 2 degree upright lie as that's what a fitting from Callaway came out to be. The ping chart was really close only slightly off on lie angle.
I love this video!!! The deviation of the wrist is so important and no one is teaching this.
Legends..... Loved the video. Can't wait to try out these moves. I've struggled for ages with one technique after another, but this one actually makes the most sense.
Funny story, I did exactly this at the range today and was crushing the ball and I had no idea this is what I was doing until I watched this video. I stepped farther back from the ball and had that ulnar deviation almost as if I was reaching for the ball then from there it was just tempo of the swing. Awesome stuff.
Nice. Great to hear.
I was literally thinking about this before falling asleep last night. This makes so much sense.
I have an extremely strong grip and people are shocked by it, but it allows me to reduce variability in my swing.
Thanks for giving me the confidence to continue exploring what I think I already knew! I'm going to persue this swing during the off season (playing to well to change right now 😂)
You're welcome.
I also do but for me it seems to cause me to snap hook when I grip to hard how do I prevent this
I’ve been having the snap hook issue too. I went to the range today and moved the ball forward in my stance-to almost even with my front foot. I didn’t snap hook any balls...still testing the new swing tho but it seems to help.
@@jackmcg8310 I try to fire my hips slightly before starting my downswing which allows my body to open up before contact with the ball
Bryson has a neutral/weak grip tho
Very proud that you had given a lot of credit to an amazing Canadian golf legend, Moe Norman. And very happy that you are passing on his valuable wisdom and tips to all us duffers.
This was a great summary, one of your best sessions. thank you very much.
As a 51 year old low hcp player with massive back pain past 2 months it AMAZED me going to the range only bringing that driver to check if rumors about less strain to ur back is a reality!! Ball #1 was unreal (trust me ... i thought this was crap before i hit a ball... just needed to try anything) ... it didn't only go straight AND longer than my average .... it took NO EFFORT other than strong comfortable setup and turn = bingo! I hit all 50 balls incredibly well and long ... faster ball speed and club head speed without me trying it ... flight was higher and more staple ... timing was easier ... BUUUUT if timing somehow got wrong i was on another planet right or left :P Average of those 50 (my first 50) like this was around 308 yards ... that's massive for an "old" guy with hcp 3 .... so i would suggest people trying it ... gradually getting there and back to their old swing to figure out where their middle is. Good luck .... loved it ... thx for that NO PAIN SWING ;)
Great to hear that you are helping your back and no more pain.
This is encouraging, i have real issues with L5 facet joint pain causing sciatica down both legs. I'm hopeful a swing change even at 55 years old and single figure handicap will keep me playing into my late 60's and early 70's. I'd be happy with the same distance i have now.
Hi, add turmeric to whatever you are cooking, even with salads, this will help your pain! Believe me as I suffered pain for years! I am now 69 years of age and am enjoying my golf day's with no pain what so ever!
Conventional Golf swing was killing my back after every round. I changed to a single plane swing last year after watching Mo and Todd and almost instantly my back pain stopped. I'm shooting in low 80's to mid 80's from 100 and it's so much more fun. Over this winter I will be working on my swing and tackling more challenging courses. Thanks
That's great to hear. Thanks for sharing.
Do you need single length clubs to switch?
Glad to hear that your back does not hurt!! Now you can enjoy golf again.
I tried literally 5 other on-line golf coaches before I found you Todd. I gave them all a fair chance at helping me (1 month or more) before I moved to the next one after being unsatisfied with my improvement. When I started with Graves Golf I showed immediate improvement, straight/solid and with some added distance. Now, I wasn’t perfect every shot but I felt so good about my progress. I recommend Graves Golf Academy to anyone and everyone wanting to feel great about there golf. Study, practice the drills and it will happen. Great training aids/equipment as well. What a blessing, seriously!!
I started playing golf in June. Watched this at the range today and started doing it. Have to perfect it still but my golf buddy was amazed at some of the bombs I sent right down Broadway. Thank you sir
Seems so simple and makes so much sense. Gonna try this tomorrow, thanks a lot 👍🏻
Have fun!
I have been doing this for the past few months. My handicap has gone from an 8 to a 3 since then. I am so much more consistent.
Golfers minds. Great 16 minute swing let me change my whole setup, ideas and swing that I worked on for years 😂
Will try Tomorrowl
I concur 57 and trying this has been me playing to my handicap 14 and below all the time brilliant
Thanks for the video. I’ve been a softball player for 25 years and just started playing golf on and off for last 5 years. I love the video and will start trying this way. Thanks
Great vid. Weight shift adds a ton of variability. Saw another pro analyze the right foot down move. Working on that so I don’t jump at the ball with my hips. Makes a huge difference 👍🏻 The hard part is limiting the range of motion and getting loose enough to actually swing. Takes many many hours of work realistically.
I’ve been working on this swing for 3 trips to the driving range and already have turned my ball contact and consistency up by 40%. It’s incredible the confidence you get so quickly from this style. I’m certain it would be as much of a privilege for me to learn this swing from you as it was for you to learn it from Moe!!! Thank you so much for this “golf gods” blessing...
Thank you.
Just started golfing and this is how I taught myself to swing and everyone told me the issue with my slice was due to this. I'm glad I came across your video because now I can keep swing and be able to fix my slice
Great to hear!
How did you fix your slice using this swing? Asking for a friend.
@@malleus9778 Not the OP, but I realized that I have gradually been doing a very similar swing over the years based on what's been successfully for me. My guess on the slice elimination would have to be somewhat related to the ulnar deviation of the lead wrist. From the few videos on eliminating a slice I've seen from guys like crossfield, now this guy, and a few others, that essentially helps the club release with a more in to out path and keeps the club face closed. That promotes more of a draw/hook than a fade/slice. I've since moved into a push draw from a push slice. My miss is now just a block right vs a 60 yard slice, but when I hit it right it's a nice draw.
@@malleus9778 lol I haven't quite got it. But I stood up more in my stance and brought the ball in. I had the ball way ahead of me
@@stupidshot4PC I went golfing just last night (same night as my question to op) and you are absolutely right. Having the left hand "weak" (the back of the hand facing the same direction as the club face), and act as an extension of the arm changed everything. I also performed the other address positions and did the sequence best I could. No more slice! Had a few fades and still eff'd up a few shots due to careless alignment etc, but it was the best driving day I've had in a very long time. I just need to work on some flexibility in the back swing and timing but it really works. You can definitely get real serious power once you're able to sequence correctly and fully turn properly. I dont mean to sound too over the moon like a shill or something but before trying this, I was push slicing literally every single time and went to using my 4 iron for drives so I'm pretty thrilled.
I have been using this method for over a year now and my drives have never been more consistent . What a great concept , i'm 78 and i can still play from the white tees with the young guys. I just wish i could as consistent with my irons, i see i have more work to do with them. This way is so easy on my back as well, keep the videos coming they are a god send
Excellent video instruction. I appreciate your style of teaching; you have a great skill making a complex topic simple to learn and implement. I switched to a single plan swing and have improved my consistency, I have eliminated the right side of the fairway in my misses. It’s great to know when I show up at the course I will play better golf which will result in lower scores.
Thanks. Yes, every day you show up you know you are going to play well. Great feeling.
I've been waiting for a pro golfer to swing like Moe for 20+ years. He'll be a threat on tour for many years to come.
@@leonsphinx4601 Indeed. I met him in 98 at golf clinic. Learned more that day than any lesson I ever took.
You were lucky.
Bryson is quickly becoming the standard of what bar is being set on tour now, his drive is untouchable!🤯
It will be interesting to see if his body will hold up.
@@stevenlowe4230 Bryson's drive is untouchable because he is the biggest guy on tour not because of this method of swing. If you look at the Pro's on club tracer, 90% of them swing on one plane with the conventional setup. Tiger's swing is a perfect one plane swing.
I tried this swing without going on the range first as it resonated with me and I found it difficult to get a consistent swing before. I play off 15.
The first drive went left but after that, I hit 5 shots perfectly and straight down the middle. 4 pars in 9 holes and I'm hooked.
Good work bro
Great job.
Hey Tod
I've been practicing this motion for around a month now , and have found it to a be much better result .
Thanks mate 😊 Australia , also I am 64 years of age !!
Nice Video, Makes perfect sense. My son in law has perfected the swing. 38 yrs old and I am a work in progress 67 yrs old. But when I keep the swing on the one plane I hit it dead straight every time. Works for me. Thank You.
Moe was the man! Thanks Todd for keeping his technique alive!
Will do. Thanks.
i started working on this a few weeks ago, it has been brilliant for my iron play. My ball striking is so much more consistent and effortless now. The driver needs more work but I'm getting there.
Try address it from the toe side of driver ❤️🏌️♂️👌
Hi, I've switched to this swing after years of inconsistent golf. Shot 8 under in recent vets stableford. Definitely staying with this swing. Thanks Tod and Mo
have you still stuck with this?
Best video ever when it comes to golf
Can you do a video like this hitting irons as well? I am sure much of this applies. Would just be cool/helpful to see examples like this with irons. Thanks for the video!
I would also love to see a video that shows how to apply this technique to irons.
Ditto. Would love to see how to translate this to irons as well. Please and thank you!
yes would be great
same swing and he uses the same length for all his irons, so it's all on the same plain
young chun yep which might be a good idea for more golfers
I think Bryson is great! His swing looks so simple. I'm thinking of trying this. I also think single length irons would help most weekend golfers.
Yes I think it would help most golfers no matter there level of play it takes the variable out of your swing
I took 15 strokes off of my score with single length irons this year...and practice.
Switched to single length this season with the Cobra F8 one lengths. Never plan on switching back.
@@1313vujade WOW!!!! I may have to save a few years to buy a set of single length clubs, but I will get a set!!!! I can’t wait
It definitely does not take variable out of the swing. That is total nonsense to make you buy his course. Bryson hit 58% of fairways this season. That is not great. And he’s a super conditioned athlete. How do you like you will do? This is all total bs.
Hi. I am a sixty-eight year old South African Male, playing off a HI of 12. I "switched" to this Single Plane swing after our lockdown (from about August 2020) after reading your book review and fell in love with this single plane, AGAIN. I am a Bryson fan now but always was a Moe Norman fan BUT couldn't grasp his "positions" - you clarified them now. I am still not consistently straight but when it "comes together" it feels amazing. I used to hit them slightly left but a comment I saw when you explained the "slightly-still-open-face" just before impact might solve this for me. Thanks for the change you inspired in my golf and this pocket guide is a great help. keep up the good work, Regards. Keith Els
The best driver swing video out there.
I'm a powerlifter with very limited range of motion so this is gold for me!

Can you do a series on the other clubs? I shoot mid 80's to 90's and use the driver about 5 times a round. Show us how to do this with a 7 iron in the rough, or off the deck but 2 inches below your feet.
My thoughts exactly
His last win Bryson hit a green with an 8 iron 210 out of rough with the same swing motion.
@@toddmallery8841 that shot was insane
@@lucasepps818 agree. I also believe though that he's putting a ton of stress on his young body with that unnatural crazy swing speed. It'll get some looks at his distances but it'll shorten his career. I sees injury plenty down road.

This really helped me thankyou! Been losing my way with driving always dreaded teeing off as a prolific slicer. I tried all sorts of swings tried swinging slow loose all were inconsistent for me.
Went to the range yesterday hit some balls using this technique and really went after it and they were going straight far took this on the course straight after and found some new confidence in driving.
One little swing thought which helped me on the follow through was to lift hands up high as I ltjink I have the tendancy to release left putting left to right spin on the ball. This was allowing me to launch them straight 👍
Appreciate this thankyou
Excellent video instruction. I took a 10 year break from golf, but recently wanted to start playing again. I’ve played two 9 hole rounds and, excuse my French, I sucked! I almost quit before I really got started. But, I thought now would be the perfect time to change my swing. I searched CZcams for “Easy repeatable Golf Swing”. Boom, there you were. I started watching your videos, but had to suffer through quarantine and couldn’t get to the range. I have been preaching in my backyard using the Single Plane Swing method. I can’t believe how much better I’m hitting the plastic balls! My quarantine ends next week so I’ll be on the course hitting for real. I can’t wait.
I may have made similar comments on a previous video, I apologize. But, I could not believe how much more consistent I was in the backyard compared to my previous Golf Swing... which, again, sucked!!!
I've have switched to this swing and I couldn't be happier.
So you’ve seen major improvement with your drive switching to this? I slice and I’m not consistent so I’m thinking of trying this out
@@tristenlarson8268 I have had a couple of issues staying consistent, because of being lazy in my setup, so my old swing starts to creep in a bit and of course i’ll hit a bad shot. But when I stay consistent with my setup, I definitely play better and score better.
You didn't talk about the left forearm variable which I heard Bryson say took out the inconsistency of his accuracy.
He supinates his left forearm (rotates to left max) ...so he wont have issues closing the face at different rates and amounts .
If he has his forearm more turned right (pronated) his arm is not at end range and timing gets involved with squaring the club face.
From this position you can get flippy with the left forearm through the hitting area
Where did you find this about his forearms? Is there some sort of animation or cad drawing that shows what you're talking about?
THIS CHANGED EVERYTHING! Thank you SO much Todd! Never before have I improved so drastically in such a short time.
That was my experience as well. I'm happy for you. Thanks for sharing.

How does this translate to irons
You are right Todd. I tried these tips and I am now consistently straight up my balls to the fairway each time. Thanks so much!
That's a great swing for the over 50 makes you also take your clubhead further out and limiting the over ht top like most people my age do
Yes I agree, it somehow takes the over-the-top swing out of the ball game. The swing has to shallow in the downswing because you're reaching out to the ball.
For me it worked and it was instantaneous.
should really try this swing.. been playing golf for 15 years and never played the same twice.. read every book and watched every video i can find.. played almost every day for 4 years up to the end of last year.. now have twenty different swing styles that are all inconsistent and stand on the course over the ball in comps wondering which swing of my twenty odd i should try then .. golf has always been the sport that i've never trapped .. running ultra marathons i found easy.. you just run till you drop and then get up and try and run a bit further.. thanks for this video .. i'm going to see if it can stop me giving the game up completely .. God bless you.. let's give it a go..🙌🙏👍
Go Swing #21!
Been playing golf my whole life. These ideas make sense. Tried some swings in my front yard and am going to take it to the range and course. Excited!
I'm curious to see how it translates to someone who's been playing for a long time! Let us know how it goes. May need to fix my broken swing 🤣
This is a superb video...hands down great.
The limiting the variables is exactly what NASCAR has gone to over the years with bottoming out the suspensions. It creates a consistency every time and the driver knows exactly how the car will react. I will be working to create the muscle memory for this swing. I will be watching many more of your videos and I hope to find drills that will help create the muscle memory. Thanks for the video explanation.

They've been conning us for many years, making golf so difficult. I thought this sounded too simple to be true. Guess what I tried it and-it made golf simple.
Is this same set up and swing applied to long irons, short irons and wedges?
long irons yes, not wedges..... look up Moe Norman
Thank you for the excellent video. I have always been taught to have way too many variables. I'm going to try this right now.

What do you guys think Bryson would say/think about this video?
@@1313vujade Have to wait until he finishes balancing his checkbook from the US Open and API. Might be a minute.

17 handicap
Great to hear.
17 handicap?? What were you before ?
better your put and chip u done bro !!
todd, what i like is the eliminating of the variables by stabilizing the body movement like you say. i know in my swing you can feel when the shoulders or hips get out of position and screws the downswing path all up. i started looking into the moe norman swing back in the 90's with the 'natural golf' book and then your vhs series about 25 years ago but i didn't stay with it. i'm gonna give it another go through your youtube videos and i picked up your little booklet from your site. it seems to simpefy the golf swing and makes so much sense. i've been goling for close to 50 years and have tried a lot of different ideas. i'm 74 yrs old and been a 13 hdcp for over 30 years. i played a lot of hockey in my younger days and this action has a bit of a slapshot action in it.always working on it. thnx for the info.
I went and played golf today and used this driver Swing. It’s amazing sorted my golf driving out first time . I have a super fast swing and doing this control it and I have never it drives so long in my life . Can’t get my head round it it’s amazing....
Nobody:
Bryson: purposely gains weight
You’re joking right? He’s become a major threat now.
Whatever it takes to become better. That is what champions do.
If DeChambeau's swing is so good, why does he play so slowly?
I have watched him play the last 3 weeks I have never seen him take over a minute to hit his ball??? Do you have evidence he is playing slowly? share your evidence or proof, perception does not count
I have always wondered about hand position. High, low, in the middle. A few times I have tried the single plane without knowing the name for it but assumed it had to be wrong since no one taught it.
At the range yesterday I decided to try it again. I hacked about a dozen terrible shots. Then stopped thinking about it and just used the single plane setup and used my regular swing. I hit every club in my bag and it was effortless connecting solidly. No worry about inside out or any other movements I have been taught. Just turn and hit. With just that small change I felt more compact and not all over the place trying to hit the slot. I have not tried keeping my back foot down so for now the swing is still conventional except for the setup. I figure one small change at a time. I have watched Moe videos before but never understood what he was doing different. You videos are great in explaining what he was doing.
I spin out a lot as I straighten my front leg and wondering if I am able to hold my back foot down if that might stop it. Now that I am watching again I have no idea how you can keep your back foot down. Or am I misunderstanding something.
I am 65. I am thin and still have the ability to get a full range of motion but over time I know that will go away. This swing looks like it should make those older with less flexibility be able to keep hitting as there is less moving parts. Any thought on that.
Great explanation. This will definitely help my swing as it’s similar to this but I confuse everything trying to hit with a conventional tee off
You are right Todd in what you say that the single plain is the only way to swing the club and have consistency! I started late in life in playing golf and just like you in your younger days I got frustrated in wondering why one can't be consistent! I was 21 when I took the game up, am now 69 and now playing my best golf ever due too watching your video's - and Moe's! But still I was not consistent as there were times I was pulling the ball left! I clicked onto Brystons grip video and he showed us how one should hold the grip in the left hand which stops one pulling the ball left - ever!! I tried this grip and it changed my game! When you think of it - put your hands down by your side and look down at them - the v of your thumb and forefinger points to your shoulders! Yet golf tips on the net tell us to have our Vs pointing to our right shoulder! You are a great instructor Todd who does not need a board too read off as you have all this knowledge stored inside of you desperate to inform the world and that is what I love about you as you inform us viewers with your heart behind in what you are trying too put across to golfers and I can assure you - we hear and feel you! Thanks Todd!
Yet another great video Todd! Thanks for bringing this to the golfing world!!
My pleasure!!
Thank you so much for this video. The instruction in the lower body, really makes a lot of sense to me. This is very helpful.
Thanks Todd for breaking the reins of motion down and going over exactly what the lower and upper torso is in range of motion and while makes a lot of sense been hitting balls in the backyard and can’t wait to get back out playing again with the new mole Norman swing thank you Todd graves Danny again in Toms River New Jersey
I have been doing this for months now and never seen a video on this til now...I recently was trying to help 2 friends repeat my process and this video brings the words and science to it! Thank you!
Glad I could help
Great info. I think you are right on with your assessment.
Todd, I came across your pages last week as I was in the hospital recovering from anterior & posterior spinal fusion surgeries. They popped up as I was watching vids of Bryson D’s recent success. I’ve been playing professionally since the early 2000’s, but back injuries have obviously hindered my ability to play & practice. This makes so much sense! I have been and will continue to dive deep into the one plane! Hopefully it will allow me to continue playing the game I love! Thank you so much for the info! Keep up the great work!
Great to hear. Let me know how you are doing.
todd, i like all these ideas of taking the variables out of the swing action. i have never been able to have consistency with all the body rotation of a conventional swing i think because if any of the body joints or angles are off just a tiny bit you've missed the shot. i like the idea of presetting the arms, ulnar deviation angle and body. i've tried moe's actoin in the past and gonna work on it again, thnx so much.
Excellent explanation of single plane swing best I’ve watched by far
Todd, you just keep getting better and better at explaining the SPS. It keeps getting easier and easier to understand because of your instruction. Thanks again for selflessly sharing.
Thanks.
Working my way through this, everything about the concept makes so much sense. What I need though, is Todd to tell me when I should break my wrists, or when they should naturally break, or if I shouldn't even think about it, or....
I just come across this and it's my swing to a tee! I don't ground my club like most do and have the freedom of just swinging away similar to hitting a baseball. I always get compliments on the power I generate. Single plane swing is the way to go.
Todd thanks - Years ago I read the Jack Nicklaus Book - Golf my Way and completely misunderstood what he was saying about the position of a straight left arm (he was talking vertically, but I assumed he also meant horizontally). An important contribution to my error was I had also read the Ben Hogan circular 'Pane of Glass'. To achieve both it led me to an Ulnar Deviation position and a single plane swing as the only logical solution. Unsurprisingly without fully understanding I became a good striker of a golf ball. Some years later I had a very bad spinal accident (I wasn't expected to walk again). Never giving up and looking for a way to continue playing without pain I experimented with as you say the more conventional methods = poor play with me assuming that was my Spine. Recently with a long and successful full recovery I've returned to Moe's method, but this time thanks to you and this Vid I now understand what I'm attempting to do. So far the Swing feels co-ordinated, precise, powerful and faster just as it was back in the Day.
Absolutely beautiful swing, you gotta love the game to appreciate
I just started playing golf last year. I play with friends that have been playing a lot longer than I have. Two of them started 40 years ago at ages 10. And 15. The other about 5 years ago but has had numerous pga pro lessons. I did not take to their advice and insights. I go out there and do what I believe is comfortable to me. One friend has now suggested I watch Bryson DeChambeau videos. He noticed that I have a single plane swing. They all think it is unconventional. But it has been working for me. Being that I have only been playing for a year, I am not very consistent. But. On days that I am, they get so mad at me. I out drive them by about 40 yards. And I use a club or 2 below them for irons. They want to hit it as far as me. I am glad that I found this page. It am sure watching and practicing will help with my consistency. I can only get better.
This is great. Thank you!
Great video, I shall try this next time at the range.
simplicity is the best policy! i'm a believer in moe! thx for sharing! ;)
I’ve been using the single plain for 25 years and never knew that’s what it was called LOL.
After watching yours and Moes videos over the last 2 weeks I tweaked a few things, grip and stance and wow what a difference. Every weekend golfer should learn the single plain and the simplicity of it. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Most Pro golfers swing on 1 plane even though they have the conventional setup. Tiger's swing is perfectly one plane.
I really like your videos! I'm slowly trying to find my way towards a single plane swing. I did notice a funny thing when looking at some of my old shots, that in the past I've actually had pretty close to a single plane swing, but not being aware of it and still tried to solve my problems with more common tought methods. I feel like I'm on the right track now!
I know it is not necessary, but I've even gone for a set of Cobra King Forged One Length clubs, and I'm waiting the delivery of JumboMax Ultralite XL grips. I tried the JumboMax-grip on my old 7-iron first, and I think that will be a great addition to all my clubs. Chipping with that 7-iron feels so good that I can't wait to get the same feeling with all my irons.
One thing in particular that I liked about this video was your point about the overrated thing of being relaxed. Being relaxed for me is something that works on a lucky day, then it is easy to praise it as a good thing. But on an average day when that relaxed setup and swing fail, and the temper heat up, the blame often falls on "I'm not relaxing!". When it's really just proof of inconsistency in the swing.
Sadly I hurt my back on the course a week ago and I'm so eager to get back out there and continue forward. The new grips should arrive during the week, and the week after my vacation starts. I've played golf on and off since I was 10 (I'm 34 now) and I've never been more excited about the game. I do look a lot at Bryson, and I feel that watching your videos which are explaining more about the details of the single plane swing is really going to make a difference for me.
Have you played with the single length irons already? How do you like them?
