If I can make a case for Victini, it was created before the Fairy type was even created, and there are plenty of legendaries that could've clearly been Fairy types like Celebi or the Lake trio, but those were all specifically not chosen to be retyped in Gen 6. I think they didn't want to alter the typings of legendary Pokemon in any way with these new typings which is why they didn't do anything to Victini. But your point about them overwriting a different type makes sense as well, since I think Normal tends to be a stand-in for a lot of things where another type wouldn't make as much sense, like some sound based mons being part normal type. Even then Fairy wouldn't have existed I think until Gen 6 since it was kinda made as a counter to the overpowered Dragon type because it was becoming kinda invasive in competitive

I actually thought of something that I think would be a cool concept for an Ice/Poison type. I tried looking up for any arctic poisonous animals, and came across a venomous arctic snake. I haven't looked much into it, but I think I have a way for how to explain it.
This Ice/Poison type could resemble a white snake with icicle-like fangs. It could have a Pokédex entry saying "This Pokémon likes to camouflage by burrowing in the snow as it hunts. While its venom is harmless in warmer weather, frigid temperatures will cause the venom to become deadly."
I think the idea of a venomous snake whose venom is harmless in warm temperatures but becomes deadly in colder temperatures could be fitting. As if the venom is crafted specifically for freezing the unready from the inside out, and making them easy prey. And how interesting would it be to have a cold-blooded creature get its title in a more literal sense?

If it followed a similar path that Galarian Corsola did and took on a polluted water inspiration, this time doing it for colder regions, I think it could work well. Cloyster adapted to the toxicity of the water by becoming a poison type itself. Pokedex entries could be something like "The frigid temperatures of the surrounding sea caused debris to freeze against various parts of Cloyster's body, forcing it to adapt in order to survive. It's shell has started secreting a cold, sticky substance that can instantly freeze anything it touches." "Some people have reported seeing these Cloyster purposely go after frozen debris. Personally, I feel like a cool concept for an Ice/Poison-Type would be a regional variant of Salandit and Salazzle. The names and typing likely come from "salamander," which is not only an actual animal that exists, but also a mythical creature that is basically a giant fire lizard. And while it may not actually be something as familiar in Japan, I know that in western culture, specifically pop culture with fantasy games like D&D, there is a creature that is the salamander's opposite; the frost salamander. Rather than being a lizard that is constantly ablaze, frost salamanders are creatures that can withstand great cold, and are often paired with ice breath and other feats of cryomancy (manipulating ice). Salandit and Salazzle are Fire/Poison and are likely partially inspired by the mythical fire salamanders, so a frosty regional variant isn't so far-fetched. Plus, shiny Salazzle looks like it could be great inspiration for an Ice/Poison-Type.

For instance, Chesnaught is strong against Greninja in both the Grass over Water matchup and the Fighting over Dark matchup. (The Hisuian starters have a similar theme.) In this case, Psychic is weak to Dark yet strong against Fighting, hence why Delphox needs to be a Fire/Psychic-type.

The first one is a literal wolf-spider hybrid Pokemon, but the second one was a regional Tepig that was forced into a colder Ultra Space environment and that rapidly changed it to be Ice type, eventually developing a more pathogenic ability in the latter stages (a cold, walking disease monster)

I think it’d be really cool if they made an ice/poison Pokémon who, when melts, releases some kind of poison. It ties into real life as most diseases have come from ancient variants released from melted glaciers and into water streams, hence getting the population using glacier run-off sick. So, this concept for a Pokémon would give it physical properties for both its types, and real-life lore.

Some people are saying Cubchoo for Ice/Poison. The dex states "Their snot is a barometer of health. When healthy, their snot is sticky and the power of their ice moves increases." Also ," If a Cubchoo lacks dangling snot, there’s a chance it is sick."
So, you could make Cubchoo Ice/Poison and give it a new ability. Something like "Wellness", where if the Pokémon is a 50% or more in HP its Ice type moves are powered up. Below 50% HP and its Poison type moves are powered up.
You could also add in a new form for Beartic called Bearsik. If you level up Cubchoo at 50% HP or more it will evolve into Beartic, and Ice type Pokémon. If you level it up at less at 50% it will evolve into Bearsik, an Ice/Poison type Pokémon.

To me, the difference between Psychic and Fairy in terms of magic is to do with how magic interacts with the Pokémon.
Psychic types *harness* the magic (i.e. the abra line) and use it as a power source to attack
Fairy types are *inherently* magic (i.e the cleffa line) and expel it as their attacks
So for Delphox, I still see it as Fire/Psychic since it’s explicitly harnessing magic rather than being inherently so
Victini, on the other hand, is literally the embodiment of victory which is as close to being inherently magic as you could get so 100% Victini should be Fire/Fairy
Ninetales is a weird case since we don’t get a lot of information about the Pokémon but going off it’s inspiration (the Kitsune), I would say it is Fire/Fairy but for a different reason than being magic. Personally, due to the fact that it is a mythological trickster, I see it closer to Klefki or Grimmsnarl in that it is Fairy due to its meddling nature alongside being birthed from folklore

Well, I agree that Fairy is inherently magic, but so is Dragon. Fairy is probably like "White" magic in a JRPG, while Dragon is "Black" or offensive magic.
I feel like Psychic is more like "performance" magic and illusions. More like neat tricks to fool and entertain a crowd that don't actually break physics.

    • @joegoff1895
      @joegoff1895 Před 9 měsíci +1

@@Jw87563 Dragon is a weird case since I don’t believe there are any dragon type Pokémon which are dragon type for the sole reason of being magical. To me, Dragon’s mystical presence can be boiled down to nothing more than higher than average stats or a statement of their rarity.
Additionally, calling Psychic type moves essentially performance tricks really gives them a disservice when they have moves such as Telekinesis, Gravity, Teleport and Psystrike. I’d say manipulating the force of nature that is Gravity and crushing your enemies under a mass of psychic energy is more than performance tricks but that’s just me

      1) Clairvoyance wouldn't be the worst logic they've used for a Ghost type, so that angle doesn't work as well as you think it does, 2) most languages with their own character/species naming team do not reference a prophet or clairvoyant individual in the name of Mahoxy (that's the Japanese name, by the way), so no language that doesn't copy-paste/transliterate the English name would be at risk of type confusion, and 3) Mr. Mime was introduced in a generation where the closest thing there were to genders were two different species, and the English localizers _still_ thought it a good idea to give a Pokémon with no express gendering a name with a gendered term, so I don't think the English+ name is problematic.
