Stumbled on your channel awhile back and I appreciate your demeanor. I don’t mean this offensively but you seem like a normal guy like the rest of us. Not tacticool or fronting, just an average dude with affordable firearms and an honest objective opinion. No click bait either, I appreciate this content. Keep it up
That's a massive difference between the 22LR and the magnum rimfires. I'd love to see the comparison between the 22 Magnum and the 17 HMR at say 50 or 100 yards were they are used for hunting. Greatly appreciate your time in doing and sharing these videos. Cheers!
I never went for the 17. When I got a 22mag many years ago it just fit my needs.
The .22 Mag might have gone through a few more plates at a distance of 2 feet but let’s try at a range of 150 yards. My .17 HMR Savage is the most accurate rifle I’ve got. It doesn’t matter how far a round penetrates if you don’t hit what you’re shooting at.
22 mag all the way, great round, wait n see.
I have Henry Golden Boy lever action in 17 HMR.... I typically use CCI Varment loads that travel at 2550 fps. Very accurate rifle up to 200 yards (limited distance on my range) and tears up small game. Both calibers in this video are great rounds that pack a lot of punch for the money.....very affordable rounds even these days. Good video, I'll have to duplicate the paper plate test with a Varment load just for fun. Thanks for posting!
That's 39 more plates & a bigger hole for better bleeding if you happen to take bigger critters. To me 22 mags & 410's make great survival / prepping rifles. You can find them in very small & light carbines / rifles / guns & or even hand guns. The ammo is lightweight & both offer a wide variety of options. Both can be used in a pinch as defensive gun & both can put medium sized game on the table if needed. Great video mate.
I love all of the rimfire & 410 videos.
A chiapa little badger 22 mag / 410 would be close to perfect imo.
That was fun to watch! I finally found a .22mag rifle in my area! I tried to look at Gun Prime's web page and couldn't navigate it very well. I got a Rossi, bolt action 10/.22mag magazine fed. Already put a BSA 4 X 32mm scope on it.
Thanks for sharing these videos with us!
I'll say the 22wmr goes through more. Looking forward to seeing it later. 👍
Always love the paper plate vids! Great job man
Good stuff! Would like to see this test @ 100 yards.
I'm sold. I think my next riffle is going to be a 22 magnum Calibur bolt action. I'm leaning towards either a CZ or a Savage. Excellent test thank you and aw, that was a really fun video.👍
If you haven't already got a new rifle, bear creek arsenal is now selling a .22 mag upper for the ar15.
Cool vid. Thanks. Wished some pistol manufacturer would make like a 20 round small sized 1911 .22 mag. pistol. One with smooth clean lines. The .22 mag is way more powerful and destructive than most believe.
Check out Rock Island Armory's 22WMR 1911 ! I don't think it holds 20 rounds but more like 16. Still, very handsome gun.
Check out the Keltec PMR30. Holds 30 rounds of 22 WMR. I have one. Jams a bit though. Lots of comments say it needs to be shot in and kept lubed and not a problem.
both neat little rounds but im partial to the 22 wmr
Would love to see you do this again at 50, and 100 yards.
Agreed
Absolutely....and reference these numbers in that comparison!!
Take it out to 200, 300, 400 and 500 yards
Wow, I'm surprised how much more energy the magnum has over long rifle!
The .22wmr is no slouch!
Same here
Surprised me
@@WHOTEEWHO man I've been watching your vids daily! My favorite gun channel now. You relate to people that just want to shoot and have a good time. Not always brag about most expensive stuff. Thanks for posting!
@@fotomotoxxiii really appreciate you watching
Awesome video, I’m surprised that either one of them went that far, thats impressive.
Always love the paper plate videos. I have both calibers and I prefer the faster lighter 17HMR, I love that little round.
Very impressed with the 22mag. Thanks for sharing
Really good comparison for today’s ammo situation. Would be interesting to see the shock channel in gel also. Thanks nice job.
How in the world did I miss seeing this earlier! This is the best test you could have done with rimfires! The only other similar tests that you need to review that you haven't yet is the comparison between your .500 Jeffrey and the .50BMG with the full metal jackets!
With regard to this test, the fact that the
17 HMR tumbled somewhat, as you mentioned, and thereby expanded was responsible for it's poorer performance.
I've tested them both many times in the same types of medium, and the .17 HMR will almost always win...as long as it doesn't tumble (which it rarely does)! Your paper plates actually are a surprisingly tough penetration medium as it's effect on bullet upset is pretty pronounced! Thanks as always, for another excellent video and again, please consider the same comparison tests between the two
.50's, as noted above! If I can be of any help with that, please let me know! Take care and keep your powder dry!
You need to test 17wsm vs 17hmr vs 22wsm, please
.17 hmr is 20 grain , it says it right on the box, so it is exactly half the mass.
We need to see one at 75 yards with 22 mag. And 17 Hmr. Paper plates
Thanks for doing this one. It was way closer than expected for sure.
Another good video friend! Keep them coming. I was surprised by results as well!
Just bought a Rossi 22WMR to go hog hunting with during small game season. The results from this video is encouraging.
Very cool! One of my favorite tests you do. Water jugs, paper plates, and clay! Maybe try wet magazines...
Lol dang brother! Little bit of bad luck for ya there but you still came out with a nice video!
22 mag is my fox, raccoon and badger round... Love that round
Love seeing the paper plate challenges
Whew, Man I was worried that you might miss. Good thing you had a scope:-)
I figured the 22 would leave the 17 in the dust as far as penetration went. was surprised the 17 penetrated as far as it did. It lost by way less margin than I previously thought.
You never disappoint thanks WTW for another really fun video 👍
Still my favorite caliber of all time . 22MAG BABY!!!!!!!!!!
Love these test.
The 17 is designed to break apart upon impact for maximum damage - these two are totally different for what they are designed to do
Для охоты на лис какой лучше из них? Чтобы не портить шкуру.
@@Fox_hunter161 for fur trappers .17 ,for hunting meat the .22 magnum . The .17 makes a mess of small animals.
@@Fox_hunter161 my friend skinned a mink shot through the neck at 90 yards with a .17 fmj. He said there was "no hole" in the hide, like the bullet opened a couple pores. Harder to find the hollow points and fmj, mostly ballistic tip stuff out there.
I love it! No outtakes, even when you screw up. Bravo! 👍
👍👍
1:01 The 17HMR rounds had 20 grain written on the box, not 17 grain as you stated
They both went farther than I had guessed that they would. I figured they wouldn’t go much over 150.
I had a couple of old steel truck hoods stacked against my boat shed. I taped my target to the outer hood and started sighting in my .17 hmr with full metal jacket rounds at 50 yards. Later I realized the rounds were going thru both hoods and the 1/2 " plywood wall. Dinged up one side of my aluminum boat. I never imagined they would go that deep. Live and learn I guess
Thank you WTW. Both are hot rimfire rounds.
Great video mate, hope you used all the ZOOMS for that shot lol
I would like to see this done again at 200 yards. The 17 has half the drop at that distance and a better bc so it might retain more power down range.
Great video Who_tee _Hoot have a great day 👍🏼 much respect
Got to go with the magnum on this one
Yup me too can’t go wrong with the magnum.
Both are magnum.
@@seanomeirs8362 that’s why I said what I said
@@nathantyson1249 Your comment came in while I was typing my comment. I figured that we are just having fun with this video.
@@seanomeirs8362 gotta find amusement some how
I have both and like both.... but I really like the flat fast trajectory of the 17 HMR. The 17 chews the center of the bulls eye at 100 yards. I thought the 22 mag would have penetrated more. Not a lot of difference on penetration between the two.
That was a fun and interesting test, but I was distracted by:
1) Unaware that chambers were empty
2) Chambered another round in both guns after completing the 1 shot test
3) Set 2 presumed loaded rifles carelessly on the edge of a mattress....guess what fell?
That was some sloppy firearms handling.
Love your vids mate all the way from Australia
They were pretty close to the same. And since I'm a fan of both id pick about even. Who-tee-who
That was awsome. Love my 17hmr.
Hey man, you look like you got some rest. That definitely was a heck of a lot closer than expected. Have you ever had any paper plate competition come that close before? BTW, I found a Leupold 3x9x40 "Rifleman" scope for $54.00 today at Walmart. I heard they've been on clearance sale for a long time at this price but hey, they're still Leupold with a lifetime warranty. Thought you might be interested. Thanks for another cool video brother.
Now do the same test with a .223 and a 22-250, that would be even more intriguing.
Good video thanks for sharing. I was thinking the 22wmr might have a little advantage.
Paper plates and clay blocks never get old!
Thanks for the video!
I hope you got your earmuffs cleaned well. I used to use Technu when I was in Louisiana and ran into poison oak or poison ivy.
Love the videos man!
🙏🙏🙏 appreciate you watching
I was surprised that is all that separated the two
Impressive. That was really close. They both went through a lot of plates. 👍
i imagine at your 4th of july bbq you tell people to use multiple plates so food doesent fall through the bullet holes lol.
Great vid mate I would like to see the 7mm08 you have on the plates and would also like to see what a 204 and a 260 would do if you can get your hands on them cheers Yogi Australia 🇦🇺🤙🤙
Im still a 17 HMR fan!! Nice one Who Tee!
This is about to be a really fun video.
Those muffs are about to take an alcohol bath. 🤣😂🤣😂
I'd like to see .17 HMR vs .17 WSM
Great video makes for good and informative entertainment. Thanks for sharing this! I'm guessing the 22 magnum went further due to greater inertia of the projectile even though it's a slower round. Also the shape of it may make it more stable on impact, but I'm not sure about this.
Thats pretty dang cool. Gona have to go back and look at the other ones.
I was thinking about your Gel and Clay Static Targets for both Rounds. Wouldn't it be Cool to see both of those in an Animation that combines both types of Sims into a visual senario? Like it would show the penetration of the Gel but also show that realtime expansion of the clay in one Video! How Cool.
BTW, you have not shown yet the 22LR in a House into a Stack of Paperbacks to find the Penetration of the round, just sayin.
Thx for the awesome content..and in my world, this video says I should never trade in my 22 mag for a 17hmr.
Wow! That 22 mag is impressive!
Thanx much for this vid, WTW!
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Really nice video. Very simple yet very effective on comparison. Never ever never under estimate the awesome 22mag.
.22 Winchester magnum rimfire...WMR...CCI ..or Hornady...🫀🫁🧠💥☠️
Phukke yeah 👍
That was a really fun Video.
Next up .17 vs open soda cans filled with water? The slow Mo on that will be sick...
Love your paper plate. And, the good part is that you can re sue them for picnics. Or for the fire.
Great one!
I'm still in the ad and this is going to be a great video
I like this channel. New subscriber from Vancouver Canada
Thanks for watching
The dreaded paper plate test...awesome man.
Would like to see a 22 hornet video. Paper plates would be cool.
I have five 22 magnums, love the caliber.
Fun video! I thought the .17HMR would go further than the 22MAG because of the smaller size and higher velocity, btw can you do one of these with 00 buckshot in the future? It seems like you haven't tried that, thanks!
That explains why a side by side fefrigerator didn't even slow down my 22 wrm at 100 yards! I've replaced target backing three time on eighteen years, but after a twenty four old frig craped out and no way to get rid of it,and in need of a new plywood blacking, it seemed logical to just to use it for some good.
Before the environmentists start squawking, it sprong a leak on the freon tube is why it failed.
Great video WTW!
Hmr is a very humane round for pest critters. Very fast and very messy 💥
great test. I figured the 22 mag would do better
On another channel there was a comparison between the 17 and 22 mag. The 17 went thru a 6x6 and a 3/4 inch plywood and the 22 mag did not make it thru the 6x6.
Dry firing a rim fire is the only type that is hard on the firearm.
Wash that stuff really well with some dawn and it'll get the urushiol off of it. Soap within 4 hours of exposure on skin.
Great video, I'm a. 22 and. 22 mag fan 1st and foremost. However I would really like to see you do a video at say 50 to 75 yards. Approximately at game range. Thank you and keep up the great work.
Always wondered how my 22 Hornet would do up against a 17 HMR. So, I'm thinking based on this video the 22 Hornet would probably go through the entire stack of plates. Thought about buying a 17 HMR many times to replace the 22 Hornet because the Hornet is a single shot and I'd like to have it in Bolt Action.
Think I'll keep the 22 Hornet.(M6 Scout Folding Survival Rifle) I've got over 1000 rounds for it anyway.
Interesting experiment!!!
Hey, I like this range better. Great video!
Gotta love that dangerous ground cover hahaha I hate getting into poison ivy. Always gets me bad for weeks
22 WMR rules over that 17.
Always has and always will.
I just bought a Sako P72 .22mag and I love shooting with it. I honestly thought the .17 was going to punsch the hardest. Only wish the ammo weren't so expensive.
"it's gotta be in here somewhere." words to live by~
Must have been an early spring in your area. :)
Surprised at the BIG difference between 22LR and 22Mag. 22Mag vs 17Hmr, not so much. Well done, Who Tee!
You darn fool Whotee!!! Now your gravy is gonna leak..
This one is tough. The .17 in FMJ does make the test closer to being fair.
Super video!
Awesome video.
Great video
