    I think the .22 mag didn't get to reach it's full velocity from a tiny revolver which is why it didn't do that much and had unburnt powder flying everywhere.

      @@MikeMalkowski Gold Dot makes a short barrel round for self defense as well as Hornady (Critical Defense). I'm sure others do to as well. Thier powder burns faster for sure and there is not as much powder.

      @@WHOTEEWHO it seems like a longer barrel on the .22 mag would’ve gotten the results you expected. All that splatter on the block looked like unburned, or semi burned powder splatter. Performance would’ve been more impressive from a barrel length of 4-6 inches (or more to maximize the powder burn)

    .25 gives center fire ignition reliability plus it was designed for short barrels. I think all that peppering on the clay face was unburned .22 Mag powder. I’ve seen other tests on CZcams that showed out of the short NAA barrel .22 LR can have higher velocity than the .22 Mag because of all that unburned powder. Nice test.

It was an eye opener for all of us. BTW, That school then was K to 12 in one building and the 22 short was all they would let him shoot indoors. And if your homework was caught up, they would give you time off for the only 7 day deer season in the whole state. Plus a 14 year old could get a drivers license. The good old days!

    .22WRM has a long case, and being rimfire, almost all of that case is filled with powder, but maximum specified pressure is pretty low (24,000 psi, compare to 35,000+ psi in the short 9x19), so powder burn rate is slow.
    The craters you see are grains of unburned gunpowder.
    The round requires a long barrel to burn through its powder.

    @thomasallen3818 Před 3 lety

    That.22 mag gave that clay block a pretty good powder burn. That’s because you fired it out of the little revolver. I would think that if you shot the same round out of a rifle, you’d get more of the powder to burn going down the barrel.

    A .25 acp has a long bullet compared to its width. This cause it to tumble when it encounters resistance like flesh and bone. You have a video that you made shooting a coconut. In that vid if you look at the exit hole you can see that the bullet came out sideways or keyholed, tumbling as it went through.

    Excellent demonstration. I've had similar results with a 22 magnum derringer with a baseball size fireball and gun powder burning out free in the air. NOTE: With a longer barrel to use all the gunpowder I bet the 22 magnum would blow the 25 ACP away in damage to the clay. BUT that was not todays test.
    I have more respect for the 25 ACP.
    Now I need a few clay blocks to test a Ruger LC9 (pocket gun).

    The .25 ACP is no joke, it was used in Europe by Police and Military. If anyone has owned a Baby Browning, that is a very easy and fun pistol to shoot. You can find Speer Gold Dots and Fiocchi Extrema with Hornady XTP bullets that are loaded hot.

  • @markdavis3529

    5:04 excellent camera shot catching the burning powder as it leaves the barrel. This burning powder is what causes the stippling on the body after the gun is shot a fairly close range. This evidence is used to help determine the most likely location of the suspect when they committed the crime.

      the temporary wound cavity would be larger than the diameter of the clay block. there would be no clay block left... just fragments of clay chunks spread for the next 10 miles. hint: the 303 is more powerful than the 30-30

    The 22mag round did not burn all the powder due to the barrel length of the pistol. That round was designed for rifles. Fire it from a rifle and you will get a different result when all the powder has time to burn.
