We commend RFN for their fresh approach to the lightweight eMoto market. Instead of following the trend of replicating Surron’s highly sought-after Lightbee X, which has resulted in a plethora of electric dirt bikes with strikingly similar designs flooding the market, RFN has chosen to stand out by incorporating distinctive design features that are unique to the RFN Ares. It’s refreshing to see a company break away from the pack and make their mark in a unique way.
The acronym RFN stands for “Racing Fears Nothing” and while we are still doing our best to understand exactly what that means, we were fortunately not afraid to swing a leg over the RFN Ares and see what this new bike is all about.

So it looks like the Beta Explorer is based on this bike. The Hot swap, no jackshaft, adjustable peg positions all make it have great potential.

Yes, do some mods. My stock surron X now has an XX controller, Manitou Dorado forks, new pegs, 54t sproket, 18" rear wheel and fat knobby tire, and higher rise handle bars. With this new bike, it already seems to have a better controller than a stock X, better wheels, better seat (I also got a thicker Luna seat), and perhaps more running time. I can't wait to get my hands on one of those bikes!

I would love to see a budget mods build with this bike. I love that the platform seems to have a lot of things the other bikes don’t have stock (like the full size seat). So maybe suspension, bars, tires, and some small ergonomic mods and see if you can make it “good” while staying under $6k-$7k total? Something like that?

@@40mmmikemike it’s budget compared to the Surron build he did, which is somewhere near $14K as I recall. I think it would be compelling to have the same budget you would pay for a modern 250 four stroke play bike and try to get similar performance/utility out of one of these electric bikes. I would like to see the outcome of someone with some know-how trying to do that.

That swingarm pivots at the drive sproket/motor shaft. This will mean that the chain tension is constant thru. the complete travel. It will also be lower noise and no extra parts to wear or slip.
This design was on the BMW 450 off-road model that they canceled. Standard bikes stiffen up when into the travel, this creates more lift off of bumps, whoops and jumps. But it will absorb medium bumps without letting off the throttle, ie it won't kick up in the rear. Faster average speed is the result.

Do a range test, try that rocket mode properly, then hrow some shocks, bars and wheels on it and test again, a nice comparison in one video. I'm already loving it. Well appart from that round screen, that's a bit off.

It would be outstanding if you could observe the swingarm torsional strength. It is quite long and is flat cast as apposed to round or rectangular tubing. The SR has a lot of twisting under turning with power applied.

Was waiting to see this one tested. The all black sticker version looks tough. That display is too street bike though. Love the form factor for what it is but the rocket mode bugged me when I first saw it because the original tester said it had the timer on it. I saw somewhere months ago the price was listed at approx. $6000 USD prior to reaching the states. I hope that changed because $4000 USD would be really good, but $6000...not so much.

More power on my trails can be a liability at worst and unnecessary at best so I'm happy with what I have for now but if the RFN is light enough my Talaria is still stock so I could always upgrade to the RFN if there's a case for it.

Going down in motocross can be heavy. Understanding this would be ridden a little lighter but what bends and what takes it. Nice work!

How is the suspension on the RFN? I'm 5'10" and 232lbs, which would be tight on a Surron and easy on the Eclipse. Get a black one and stealth mod it, ECR. Oh, what's the top speed?

I just went ahead and pulled the trigger on one of these bikes. Initial impression? Underwhelmed. :( I'm 6' tall and about 230lbs, so bigger guy, and I knew these were small-ish, but the ground clearance is better than SurRon or Talaria and I got 2" risers for the bars right from the start. I ride mountain bikes quite a lot and I've ridden dirt bikes for decades, so I knew this wasn't going to be as nice as my KTM 525EXC, but I was expecting more from the motor based on all the wheelie riding and dirt peeling I've seen on YT. Even in turbo, I was not as impressed as I thought I would be. And the bike overall, is child-like (think < CRF-230) and small geometry. This really needs a 21" front tire. Overall, the build and materials is quite good and I think it is better than a Sur-Ron or Talaria. I really want to go ride an Ultra Bee now or KTM Freeride...(gawd, I really want to try Stark Varg). Also, I tried about 20 different BMS apps on the iPhone store, and none seemed to be able to connect to the battery, though I do believe it has Bluetooth, because at least one app saw something on the network that looked vaguely like the battery serial number, but it could not negotiate any info. I'll keep trying. I still don't believe it is even REMOTELY possible for them to be getting the peak 12KW out of this even for 9 seconds in rocket mode, given what I've seen of the LG cells they are using. I'm going to crack open the case and get an actual answer (I believe it is 20S7P on LG M50LT 5000mAh 21700 cells, but those really are not rated for more than 7A continuous, which places it quite a bit below the 85A pack total rabbit mode should draw (by over 50%). I'm pretty sure that is just the BMS limit and not the continuous rating ability. That puts this a LOT closer to a 4kW continuous bike... Also, there is no 12V harness to plug into for LED lights and the foot pegs are NOT standard MX pegs, so I'm going to have to find something else.

What is with people acting like 4K USD for these type of bikes is a good, fair price point. The cost of the R&D for creating these bikes, and then the actual parts and labor cost for manufacturing then is pitiful. Basically build a shitty to mediocre platform, and slap a shitty recycled lithium ion pack of 60 rebuilt 18650 cells in it, (all probably totaling 400-500 bucks, and then slap them on the market for 4000 and act like it’s a bargain because they’re so “high tech and feature laden”. I think it needs to be modified it looks better than the surgeon and a 72 volt battery for sunroom is 3/4 of the price

Funny thing....how `people` are `trained` by the MSM to call silly names on anyone questioning the feasability of EV bikes or cars...."Hater!"
Anyone questioning range, power, price, charging time etc, all valid points...."Just call them a `hater`, they will shut up!"
    The price is unrealistic.
    What`s the range!?
    How long to charge up?
    Now call me a `hater`.

Not gonna lie id be pretty disappointed for apollo, who sells really cheap bikes, sells these for surron prices. Especially after you saying youd rather have a stock surron, mods are so dang expensive.

At this price i think its kore fair to compare it to the ultra bee. And i think thebuktra bee is a far better bike.

Whoa, 6 grand?? Looks like a terrible deal at that price.
How did they miss by 50%. 6k is a far cry from 4k.

Problem is if you ride this in areas you would ride a surron you would be getting pulled over all the time. That is the only problem of it looking exactly like a dirt bike 🤷‍♂️

Lost interest as soon as you said the ”rocket” mode shut off after a few seconds. Why do they do such crap with a 74 volt battery?
