  • Race-emoto compares the 2023 Surron X vs 2023 RFN to see how they go head to head in a drag race. The RFN has an extra mode called Rocket which boosts power evident in the video. The Surron has a slightly higher top speed as this RFN came with a 58t sprocket. Rocket mode is definitely quicker than Surron sport but it currently is time limited. We are working with the factory to allow Rocket mode as a stay on feature and would include a larger 2.9kwh battery with higher power output. We will see if this can happen soon. Overall the RFN has a lot of potential but will need some small adjustments. it's a worthy competitor to the Surron X. Let us know what you think and check out the all black version on the way toward the end of the video.

I'm getting a Beta Explorer in a couple of months. Looks to be pretty much the same as the RFN but with red plastic and Beta logos. I'd like to pick your brain on potential upgrades, such as riser bars, 21" wheel up front, etc. Is there a way we can converse outside of CZcams? Thanks.

Quick bikes, but =very= loud gear train, which wouldn't work for me. You can hear them over the sound of the drone. I just saw some demos of a Solar E-Clipse and really want one. The rider was 6'3" and 230# and the bike gat and shat. The gear train is considerably quieter, too. By maybe 60dB. ;) They go for $5,995.99 with free shipping, about $300 less than RFN, which doesn't include shipping.

apparently a belt conversion is super silent, look into that, unsure if there are videos around about it.

@@race-emoto I think it's gearing the motor down in a transmission which is loud, not the final drive gears. But, yeah, I'm a fan of belts.

He's using a skydio drone, it records sound from his device likely placed in his pocket just fyi.

The reason why they only put rocket mode on for 10 seconds is because to leave it on any longer, would risk burning out the motor because of the inability to lose that much heat, it’s the same design restriction with any motor because they all have a max power you can pulse them at but it will not be sustained without damaging the motor so arguing to be allowed to keep this on all the time it’s like a turkey arguing for Christmas

We should have been more specific. We have been talking to the factory about it to upgrade the controller and battery to be superior to handle the extra power which they are doing, so the RFN has been delayed as they are working on a solution

@@race-emoto the issue is not about the battery or the controller. It’s about how much heat you can dissipate out of the motor, in a short space of time before you fry it and melt it, even though they have fins on it. The main heat is down in the core of the windings which is very difficult to dissipate and once the airspace around it heats up, unless you have a significant amount of air flow, it just creates a warmer jacket which just fries the core.

@@race-emoto right, but theres a reason its a burst feature and not the standard bike performance. having the higher performing parts to operate on rocket speed full time would cost more money and price the bike higher. making it akin to higher priced bikes and would be comparable to the ultra bee etc not the light bees etc.
it is a frivolous argument because the same could be said for any ebike.

@@race-emoto possibly but extra weight makes a difference. Have a feeling you didn’t show it because the surron was probably closer than you say. Hope the best for rfn, but surron is proven and tested. Not impressed with the 72v rfn vs 60v. At this price point and specs, you need to be testing this versus the surron ultrabee. You are doing a disservice to rfn. Just telling it like I see it
