Here's my review of the new Steve Hackett album "The CIrcus & The Nightwhale", which promises to be a return to form as the veteran guitarist, famous for his brief stint in Genesis, goes back to his roots and produces a concept album, a first for him in his catalogue. So will it be a case of Free Willy or will it be a beached whale, festering on the shoreline? There's only one way to find out and watch my review!

Looking forward to hearing the song that Nad Sylvan sings. I love Steve Hackett but his singing does nothing for me. I wish he used Nad or someone similar for singing on his solo stuff.
Well, well, Darren. Thank you for your honest review of Mr Hackett's last effort. I do agree : when he's on acoustic guitar, it does sound really wonderful. When he's doing his "rock" stuff with the "iffy" production, it's ok. But yep, overall an enjoyable record.
I enjoyed first listen last night. I have an issue with first track as well and it is on 1 LP, which is great and rarity in Prog circles. I like the flow and acoustic/rock mix. Some memorable melodies as well. Enter the Ring is my favourite so far - awesome flute and backing vocals
Good album. Agree about production. Thought it was just my ears. Maybe Steven Wilson has spoiled me...:)
Thanks for your summary. My copy is in the post.
About time he got back to form, I'll have to check this one out
Weird, the opening track has been slagged off a bit, but I listened to it on CZcams and thought it was a bit tasty! Good review Darren, might treat missen to a cd.
Thanks for this excellent review. Agreed with you Dareen : after a lots of terrible album, it's getting (a little bit) better. Too shame he goes on the road with the same Genesis 'boring" show (it was ok 12 years ago but now...).
I love it when we all agree!
Hearing Hackett play his old Genesis stuff is the only reason I attend hid gig's...
And that’s why he does it because he likes your money more than his own music…
What I find negative is the fact that he is using the same musicians over and over again . If you don't want to stay in a group and go solo as he did , and then for years use the same musicians than per fact you are practicly for 50 % in a group . Going solo gives you the opportunity to switch musicians on regular basis to get new input in , new ideas , or people who play special instruments.
That part is lacking with Steve ......and honestly with the majority of artists because they are afraid to change things . And for someone who is in the category of PROGRESSIVE ......there is little progress.
"Howard Stern of Prog" lol
I prefer the Robert Mugabe of Prog, myself...as one member of that band accused me of being like Robert Mugabe once.
Wow, high praise from Darren. Good luck with the brain tumor. Take care.
I had a good shit and now I’m fine…plus Stevie Weasel announced his next album…so there’s a balance.
I know you would hate this album, but why review this ?
Eh?he doesn't hate it,did you actually watch the review??
Awwww…you spoilt his preconceptions! 😂😂😂
@@dougreed2257 I'm french, with the opening, I thought...But I don't like it anyway, I don't understand why he records such albums.
@@lesimprosdulezardvert1342 To be honest, not too sure what you are meaning, with respect🤔🙄
