The two biggies you get with the FX4 over the standard AWD ranger are TOW HOOKS and SKID PLATES! I think every Maverick should have tow hooks front and rear. If it’s AWD or 4x4, I consider tow hooks mandatory. You cannot just add front tow hooks to a regular Maverick. There are welded in structure supports for the tow hooks you only get with the FX4 package. So unless I get a road only hybrid front driver Maverick, I will only get the FX4 with the max tow package. A truck has to be a truck first. And a truck gets dirty, and has to be able to leave the pavement, and get pulled out when you get stuck. Even if it’s only the wet grass in your yard.
I am in full agreement with your reasons for getting the FX4 package; the increased engine cooling components gives me the impression they would increase the life expectancy of the engine, and the wheel/rim upgrade is excellent. The more videos I watch, the more difficult it is to live without one of these trucks.
Thats not how the cooling system works; the vehicle has a operating temp that it maintains it regardless if its upgraded or not but it matters if it has to hold rpms for certain modes like low or towhual where it holds gears for a longer time.
@@user-ce1df3yr2dso the larger radiator or the oil cooler or whatever…the engine upgrades on the FX4; they won’t help to keep the engine from getting as hot? Or prevent the engine from wearing due to heat etc for a longer period of time?
Per Ford's website the FX4 package also includes monotube shocks with hydraulic rebound on the rear suspension in place of the twin tube shocks found on the standard AWD. I assume they did that to combat rear wheel hop in low traction off-road situations.
I mostly went with the FX package also, due to the wheels. I wanted black wheels, and after market will cost more than 800, and the upgraded black wheels were around 1700? Anyhow, nice!
I appreciate the takeaway. A Maverick is never going to be an ultra capable offroader, even with the Tremor package but the FX4 definitely makes it a little more dirt road ready. I put the package on my order to get the 6.5" screen, tow hooks and wheels. The skid plate is a nice bonus, the drive modes can be added to any AWD Maverick through forscan and honestly, I never expect I'll use the hill descent mode.
We got FX4 on ours because our F150 had it. For the Mav the larger nicer display screen alone was worth it to me- it’s so much nicer. It almost has everything the 4K tow has too. The off road info screens are cool too. Very much worth it.
Good video, convinced me to get it when I get mine. All that for only 800 is a steal. I'm going to get it with the 4k towing package, and the hill decent would pair nicely with that if ever needed.
Thanks for the info.... but you forgot the performance tuned suspension...and by the way now for 2024 you must also get the towing package to get the FX4....Ford finding a way to dig into your pocket a little more. 🤨
I love your content. Thank you for all your research, and information, I have a Maverick on order it's here at my dealership as we speak. I go to pick it up tomorrow. Mine has the fx4 package on it too. I really didn't know what I was getting until you explained it a whole lot better than the other folks do out in you tube land does. Thank you. 😊 Mine will be volecity blue metallic.

@@MoneyShift I really am. I just received my Maverick on this past Thursday . My wife took me to get it. I also have a 2012 370z, that just paid off. It's my dream car. So the Maverick is my dream truck. You have some really neat and informative content on everything out there. It's very interesting. I have been going back and watching some of your old videos, very nice 👌. I just subscribed too, so that's better also. 😊
Personally, I wouldn't even touch the Maverick without the FX4 package as on a truck this size all-wheel drive should be mandatory along with the 4K towing package.
I understood that the FX4 package also included a more robust all wheel drive system. I think a more capable rear differential is part of that package.
I went with the 2022 Lariat. I have everything a FX4 has minus the paper thin skid plates and the $800 FX4 sticker on the side. I love my truck...its a more comfortable ride than the FX and I'm secure in my manhood even without the FX4 sticker. If you're truly off reading more than street driving or If you need to impress others or feel low...get the FX4
If the oil drain plug is straight down, I'd take a hole saw and send it right through the skid plate. Doing spark plugs on cylinder 4 looks interesting
Doesn't work as I thought. Drain plug points to the rear of the car and the oil filter on the front facing side of the engine is also down there, hanging upside down.
I test drove a Maverick with the FX4 package and found the tire noise on the freeway to be noticeable. I plan on test driving another Maverick, without the FX4 package, to see if the tires are quieter. I have to disagree with you on engine covers. I don't think they add much sound deadening, but they're good at keeping heat in the top area of the engine, which is not a good thing. I do agree that the engine, with all the tubes and wires running over the top, does look a mess.
Hi Ron! Thanks for tuning in and providing some feedback! While I do agree that the FX4 package car will be louder than a Lariat with the acoustic glass, I do not think that the road noise of the Pirelli ATR tires would be equal to the road noise of a Maverick if it had a true all-terrain tire! As for the point on engine covers, while they seemed connected, I am in line with your school of thought. I do not think the engine cover provides sound deadening, but Ford choosing not to add it shows where they are saving some coin. Thanks for watching
Id love to have gotten the FX4 to get those wheels and instrument cluster, but I wasn’t willing to add the cost for the AWD since I would never have had a huge need for it. As much as I’d love the wheel and tire package and the gauge cluster it didn’t seem practical to me.
My biggest concern I have is all the exposed electrical underneath the truck. We shall see how it holds up over time. My old ranger is still ticking but when it finally dies this is on the short list.
I do a lot of Kayaking and camping. Never off roading. But, im in the market for a new vehicle and prepared to wait for the 2023 Ford models. I would love to start some offroading and a Ranger would be best for that, but a Ranger will be pushing my budget while a Maverick would be easy on it. Asking for opinions. Its a hard choice for me.

Ok here is a big question. What is the payload with this vehicle equipped the way it is. The payload varies per trim level. If you tow a trailer with gear that can be a big deal if it goes from 1500 down to 1200. That 300 lbs is right in the sweet spot of make or break it for many trailers when you include gas batteries hitch weight propane and passengers

41 psi on your tires. I bet it rides like a tank. On the door jam it’ll tell ya probably 30-34 cold tire pressure. Even if they are hot when I seen the screen it’s normally only 2 maybe 3 psi higher reading!!!!!
Have you changed the oil on that FX4 with a skid plate with no access panels. Get ready to pull those 14 bolts to drop the whole front skid plate. Am I wrong?
Losing sport mode on a 250hp engine was a deal breaker for me. Plus the stickers mess up the clean look. Road noise is always more noticeable with off road tires. And the skid plate has 15 bolts that you have to pay to remove at every oil change. Lets face it, its too low profile to rock crawl. You will tear up the areas with no skid plate. AWD can handle 99% of the dirt roads to the trailhead.
I have been asking the same question. I saw that there was a tricked out Hybrid being used by one of the California Beach patrols . Don’t remember which beach. I’m inclined to believe that the Hybrid would do just fine because of the high torque of the electric motors. At least that’s my hope
It does not. You take off the small front piece to access the filter and remove the black plastic piece in the large skid plate to access the drain plug.
The two biggies you get with the FX4 over the standard AWD ranger are TOW HOOKS and SKID PLATES! I think every Maverick should have tow hooks front and rear. If it’s AWD or 4x4, I consider tow hooks mandatory.
