I live in Houston, one of the cities you mentioned 😂 I just ordered my Maverick today actually! I wanted the Luxury package mainly for the remote start, electronic seats, and the bed liner, but honestly the heated seats and heated steering wheel are still going to be a wonderful addition to the car here. It does get really chilly here in January/February so I WILL use it haha. Thanks for this video though! Good to see I got what I wanted off of my order.
In California it still gets cold at night and in the early morning, so still worth it. Especially for the bed liner, remote start, heated everything, and the electronic seat lift is especially helpful for shorter individuals. (very nice video @MoneyShift Thank you for posting)
value wise I would say the Lux package on the XLT is a great buy. Even though I live in the northeast (ohio) as well, I can see using the remote start to both warm the car in winter and have the AC going in the summer. The added leather wrapped steering wheel can be good for durability and comfort reasons, in cabin and in bed 120v outlet can be a big plus when needing to charge a laptop or needing a small light for camping. The little number lock pad on the door can be usefull if you are like me and go out to get something out of the car then realize you have to go back in because you forgot the key fob haha.
I live in AZ and I ordered my Maverick XLT with the lux package for literally all of the features except the heated mirrors and wiper de-icer. The way I see it, the lux package on this one is well worth it since it puts a lot of the options I actually wanted together. Due to the lux package, I have no need to purchase any other options for my Maverick at all, so it remains a very nice value.

For those of us in the Northeast/Midwest the cold weather features are more like necessary features than optional. 😅 Funny enough, some of the features that are in the Luxury Package weren’t originally listed in the the package way back when we ordered ours! Things like the leather wrapped steering wheel and remote start were not listed. Also fun fact, the Ford Pass app will give you a lot of control over the car remotely I believe even on the XL trim even without the Luxury Package. Our build date is December 7th! Can’t wait!
One item you didn’t mention that is important to me is the manual height adjustment on the passenger seat. It is included in the lux package and adds value for me.

We live in Indianapolis, winter sucks! My wife has heated seats in her Kia Sorrento, if you've never had heated seats in a cold weather climate, you don't realize how great they are. That's a feature I had to have in my next vehicle, I'm glad the Mav has it. Bonus, heated steering wheel!
In the south, we enjoy cooling off our car before jumping in and winter is winter. I live in north Florida and use my heated mirrors and heated seats all time on cold mornings. Great value no matter where you live.
I went dog nuts when I ordered mine (awd, 2.0, lariat, fx4, lux, tow) Also added a 2in lift with KO2s. Can't wait to add the steeda hp upgrades. This thing will be a screamer with an extra 100hp.

But I needed the 4k towing for work (electrician). No issues to report at all. Has done everything from work to hunting and camping with perfect aplomb. And as long as Ford keeps making them, I'll keep buying them. This is from a life long F-150 owner.

I didn't really have a choice when I ordered my '22 XLT. Even when the forced me to change my order to a '23, the XLT package costs me about $5K. You cannot get cruise on the XL, you can only get Cruise with the XLT or Lariat (and mine did not come with the 400w 110v outlet).

The one thing you missed is the ONLY way to get a power driver seat is with that LUX package.... Just wish the passenger seat was also power with lumbar.

Pretty much wasted dollars. If you want Luxury package, go ahead and buy BMW , Mercedes, Audi, Tesla - take a quick look at interior and you will see a difference in everything compare to Maverick. This is not a luxury car, its a truck, kind of. For me i need something to carry my scuba gear and bikes. Fits me perfectly. (I currently Have Audi - and pre ordered maverick). Even if i can afford a Luxury package, i bought a basic model because... again its just a truck. I used cruise control 3 times in my life, i do not care about rims on the car as well as heated seats. That how marketing works. You want heated seats? cruise control? bigger wheels? 200$ mats in your car and other junk ? And magically price of your car from 20k became 30k. And for 30k+ you can buy a lot of things, and i would not even look at maverick.

Same here...Actually, you can buy after market parts that you actually need and install yourself for much less. Obviously, heated mirror, seats or steering wheel do not have after market parts and not for DIYers. But if you live in the warm climate areas, these are not critical. Also, I would not call this "luxury" package. It should be called "convenient" package for what it is. Even if all items use top notch materials(which I doubt), still they do not convey the same prestige of ahigh end brands.
Funny how people agonize over a lux decision but they will jump on a dealer stock unit marked up 5k. At least for 2k, you get something more for your money.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think the lux package also gives you the key pad on the door so you can just enter a code to unlock it which I personally love on fords
I went a little nuts ordering my Maverick XLT. I added the Towing, Off Road and Luxury packages. Ford really needs to add keyless entry and push button start, especially as part of the Luxury Package. It seems like a bad place to save money, considering it comes on most Japanese and Korean economy cars.

I got a Nissan leaf in 2014 and it came with heated steering wheel and I thought it was a unnecessary thing. 1st winter I changed my mind. Since the car had to use a lot of battery to heat the cabin I stopped using that I used just the heated steering wheel to keep me warm and occasionally used the AC to clear fogged windows. Now, if the car doesn't have a heated steering wheel, it's a deal breaker for me. I can go without most things, heck, even the air heater.. just give me a steering wheel that is warm and I can survive winter driving with that alone.
Couldn't agree more. I had a Chevrolet Volt and the heated things just really helped. I found myself doing exactly like yourself, heating my keister and hands instead of using it to heat the cabin!

Just wonder if you wear gloves in the cold days? They are much better than heated steering wheel...and people in the old days do that all the time to go outside and drive.
Great review and analysis. I live in what you might term a "on the bubble" city. Meaning we're far enough South to have very mild winters but we can also get occasionally clobbered when Old Man Winter extends his reach from the North. So is it worth heated seats, etc for maybe once or twice a year? for me, oh yeah. Plus I think it's a fair price for the features you get. A few questions-- on the remote start, do the heated seats and heated steering wheel come on automatically? can you activate them remotely if they don't? finally I have seen reviews that mention some restricted visibility from the rear view mirror out the back window. They mention the sliding back window adds to this. Would you ditch the sliding back window? do you find this visibility complaint to be relevant in your experience? Thanks!

Thanks for subbing Dave! I purchased this one from Franklin Ford. I adored this truck a lot, it is no longer in my possession, but I would not hesitate to buy one again. In my view, the XLT Lux AWD (potentially with Tremor) is the best spec for the Maverick. Provides comfort, features, good looks, at a great price.
Have fun changing the oil on the Maverick you've got to remove 15 screws off of a plate even before you can get to the drain plug and the oil filter & you also might consider investing in the extended warranty because it's built in Mexico 🇲🇽 !! 🤔🤔
Hey Jeff, Thanks for the comment here! Extra 15 screws will add a few minutes to the oil change for sure, but for the added protection it’s worth it for me. As for the extended warranty, time will tell, but for now it’s been great.
XLT + Luxury Pack = what more could you want for a Ford. Need the bedliner and hitch for sure =$1000+ right there. And there are part shortages on some of this stuff = go OEM if possible. + mechanics charge $100-200hr to install this stuff.
Hey OG! Thanks for the question, I got you! Shortly after this video was filmed, Ford changed on the website that a drop-in bedliner was included in the package and not spray in. ME-THINKS part of the reason was the recall that effected these trucks early on. If you aren't aware, there was a period of time where there was a recall that the fuel tank could potentially have HOLES in it because when they applied the spray in they drilled into the fuel tank by accident. Hopefully it changes back, but for now.....boxed is what you get on the XLT.

I'm tempted to get the lariat luxury package but not sure it's worth the $4400 😂 for that money I could throw in a lift and wheels and tires a ton of money left over !
Ya you bet! Here to help! I will have a video coming within the week on the Lariat Luxury package specifically, hopefully that will help you make your decision. IF IT WAS ME!!!!! What I would say is this. While the XLT has a key that you need to use, you can use the app to unlock the car wirelessly, or opt for the keypad on the door that unlocks the vehicle hands free as well. If the keyless is the only reason you would go Lariat, I would save your money and use that towards lift/wheels for sure! After a week you wont even remember what keyless feels like haha.
Living in Louisiana the heated seats steering wheel and wipers are completely useless I wish they'd let you option them out of the luxury package And get a bit of a discount.
Are the plastic parts of the car (interior of the door, bottom of the seat, etc.) blue or black plastic? Its hard to tell from a lot of different pictures.
I just tried to add the Lux package to an XLT and is says drop in bed liner included. They may have deleted the spray in due to supply issues. Don't even see it as an option.
The Hybrid most certainly gets better MPG. I average 26 in mixed use, and that number would probably be in the high 37 range for the Hybrid. That said, for me 26 was still a "high" number, so I went AWD.
Do you get a credit back if you get the lux package and fx4 package? Since the tow hitch is included in both? Seems unfair if you don’t get $100 off. Otherwise it’s like paying for it twice.

The quality of the leather is what the air quotes are about. Generally when you think of a leather wrapped wheel you expect something a smidge more premium (Read: thicker, more padding). I understand it is a 2,345 dollar option, but it certainly is not premium.

I ordered one today. I am going with the hybrid. The luxury package does not make it for me. I live i Florida and care for no heating. It would be better to pay for the spray in bed and tow.
Great question Phil! The 2.0 Turbo is very torquey, so while the transmission takes a second or two to kick down, once it does the power comes on great. in addition, short of some CRAZY winds it feels remarkably planted on the highway at high speed. I have done many a 2+ Hr roadtrip all highway with 0 complaints.
Exactly right, so you remote start, and then upon entering the car you have to put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position. Agreed, still worth it!
2400 plus the cost of going to the xlt. I got xl with ford 360 because that gave me power mirrors. plus bedliner .. plus hitch Good review. Up north, its better deal.
the lariat and fx4 packages are wastes of money. XL or XLT; this is an econo vehicle; i just test drove a lariat and couldn't see how it was $5000+ more than an XLT. the upgraded stereo is also subpar for how much it costs.
The best part about them is you do not have to option them! For me, the XLT lux package is VERY worth it. Heated Seats/Steering Wheel/Mirrors/BedLiner/Hitch/etc, for $2,345 you would not be able to add all those features yourself. That said, certainly if you do not value them, the XL is perfect. That is why I am a massive fan of the Maverick. Ford gives you the option to own the car on the cheap (out the door for well under 25), or loaded up!
IMO...the package is a full $1000 too expensive...but Ford can charge that and get it, so they will. I say let someone else eat the premium on these trucks...even if they "hold their value" in the coming 3-4 years it'll be much more cost effective to buy one used. I may pick one of these up 5 years from now as the run around truck...and I'll buy used
I will say you do get a lot for your money. Bedliner alone is 500 worth of value, nevermind adding in all the heated things and more but to each their own! The market these days is a bit weird. Currently folks are selling Mavericks used for 10-15k over MSRP. So while 3-5 years things might change, the chip shortage is making things weirder and weirder
It isn't $2.4K it must come on the addition of XLT $2.2K package; not counting eco-boost and 4wd options. Totally defeats the entry level base XL package Ford is pushing that aren't being made yet. Otherwise it is a gimmick. Ram 700-1200 base models are much less expensive but not for US market. Too bad real competition is banned. I ordered the XL...we'll see if dealers try to gouge me when it comes in in 6 months.
Not only is it not worth what they charge, the XLT package for $2280 is an even worse deal, simply to get cruise control, power mirrors, alloy wheels and token other items. The XL is a loss leader, you get zip for it's cheap price.
Hmm, luxury package? ... it just marketing term they want to make you pay for it, where all these should be already of the vehicles in the first place.
When the vehicle has a base price of 19,995, there certainly had to be some things removed. Luxury items in my view are items that need not be standard on a vehicle and are indulgences, which this has. Heated Seats/Mirrors/Steering Wheel, all of these things are luxuries. That said, they do all come standard on most other vehicles! haha.

unfortunately no defrost on the rear window though. that should have been included. will probably have to opt for an aftermarket install

I live in Missouri and get both extremely hot and extremely cold weather. I chose to get the luxury package because our winters get miserable.
Totally worth it in my view as well! Heated Seats/Mirror/Steering wheel are worth the price of admission.
Funny how people agonize over a lux decision but they will jump on a dealer stock unit marked up 5k. At least for 2k, you get something more for your money.
Wish the luxury package would give you a bigger screen that's not offset with a cubbyhole next to the side of it.

Exactly this. Heated steering wheel, seats, mirrors, and wiper park for 595.00. I would have opted for that. At 2500 the package is too much imo.
They removed the spray in bed liner and raised the price $200, not worth it any more. Bed extender cannot be used on drop in.
I dont think that all of a sudden makes it not worth it. It certainly can change folks' thoughts on the package, but 200 is not make or break.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think the lux package also gives you the key pad on the door so you can just enter a code to unlock it which I personally love on fords
I am just going to remote start my car 5 minutes before I plan on getting in it with the Ford app. and it will be warm when I get in it.
That certainly is a good option, but with poor circulation in my hands I do love a good heated steering wheel

I went a little nuts ordering my Maverick XLT. I added the Towing, Off Road and Luxury packages. Ford really needs to add keyless entry and push button start, especially as part of the Luxury Package. It seems like a bad place to save money, considering it comes on most Japanese and Korean economy cars.
You and me both David, this is a fully loaded XLT (4K/lux/FX4/copilot/sunroof). I totally agree with ya!
NO to the push button on the XLT, you can get the lariat for that, I like a real KEY.

I got a Nissan leaf in 2014 and it came with heated steering wheel and I thought it was a unnecessary thing. 1st winter I changed my mind. Since the car had to use a lot of battery to heat the cabin I stopped using that I used just the heated steering wheel to keep me warm and occasionally used the AC to clear fogged windows. Now, if the car doesn't have a heated steering wheel, it's a deal breaker for me. I can go without most things, heck, even the air heater.. just give me a steering wheel that is warm and I can survive winter driving with that alone.
Couldn't agree more. I had a Chevrolet Volt and the heated things just really helped. I found myself doing exactly like yourself, heating my keister and hands instead of using it to heat the cabin!

Just wonder if you wear gloves in the cold days? They are much better than heated steering wheel...and people in the old days do that all the time to go outside and drive.

Great review and analysis. I live in what you might term a "on the bubble" city. Meaning we're far enough South to have very mild winters but we can also get occasionally clobbered when Old Man Winter extends his reach from the North. So is it worth heated seats, etc for maybe once or twice a year? for me, oh yeah. Plus I think it's a fair price for the features you get. A few questions-- on the remote start, do the heated seats and heated steering wheel come on automatically? can you activate them remotely if they don't? finally I have seen reviews that mention some restricted visibility from the rear view mirror out the back window. They mention the sliding back window adds to this. Would you ditch the sliding back window? do you find this visibility complaint to be relevant in your experience? Thanks!

I purchased this one from Franklin Ford. I adored this truck a lot, it is no longer in my possession, but I would not hesitate to buy one again. In my view, the XLT Lux AWD (potentially with Tremor) is the best spec for the Maverick. Provides comfort, features, good looks, at a great price.

Have fun changing the oil on the Maverick you've got to remove 15 screws off of a plate even before you can get to the drain plug and the oil filter & you also might consider investing in the extended warranty because it's built in Mexico 🇲🇽 !! 🤔🤔

Thanks for the comment here! Extra 15 screws will add a few minutes to the oil change for sure, but for the added protection it’s worth it for me. As for the extended warranty, time will tell, but for now it’s been great.

XLT + Luxury Pack = what more could you want for a Ford.
Need the bedliner and hitch for sure =$1000+ right there. And there are part shortages on some of this stuff = go OEM if possible. + mechanics charge $100-200hr to install this stuff.

Shortly after this video was filmed, Ford changed on the website that a drop-in bedliner was included in the package and not spray in. ME-THINKS part of the reason was the recall that effected these trucks early on. If you aren't aware, there was a period of time where there was a recall that the fuel tank could potentially have HOLES in it because when they applied the spray in they drilled into the fuel tank by accident.
Hopefully it changes back, but for now.....boxed is what you get on the XLT.

I'm tempted to get the lariat luxury package but not sure it's worth the $4400 😂 for that money I could throw in a lift and wheels and tires a ton of money left over !

I will have a video coming within the week on the Lariat Luxury package specifically, hopefully that will help you make your decision. IF IT WAS ME!!!!! What I would say is this. While the XLT has a key that you need to use, you can use the app to unlock the car wirelessly, or opt for the keypad on the door that unlocks the vehicle hands free as well. If the keyless is the only reason you would go Lariat, I would save your money and use that towards lift/wheels for sure! After a week you wont even remember what keyless feels like haha.

I think you forgot to talk about a couples thing.. bigger dash cluster screen is one.

Living in Louisiana the heated seats steering wheel and wipers are completely useless I wish they'd let you option them out of the luxury package And get a bit of a discount.

I just tried to add the Lux package to an XLT and is says drop in bed liner included. They may have deleted the spray in due to supply issues. Don't even see it as an option.

The Hybrid most certainly gets better MPG. I average 26 in mixed use, and that number would probably be in the high 37 range for the Hybrid. That said, for me 26 was still a "high" number, so I went AWD.
Do you get a credit back if you get the lux package and fx4 package? Since the tow hitch is included in both? Seems unfair if you don’t get $100 off. Otherwise it’s like paying for it twice.

The steering wheel is indeed leather wrapped. Not sure what the air quotes are all about!
The quality of the leather is what the air quotes are about. Generally when you think of a leather wrapped wheel you expect something a smidge more premium (Read: thicker, more padding). I understand it is a 2,345 dollar option, but it certainly is not premium.

how does this truck do on the intersate? Does it overtake pretty well or handle 80+ mph speeds pretty well?
Great question Phil! The 2.0 Turbo is very torquey, so while the transmission takes a second or two to kick down, once it does the power comes on great. in addition, short of some CRAZY winds it feels remarkably planted on the highway at high speed. I have done many a 2+ Hr roadtrip all highway with 0 complaints.

Exactly right, so you remote start, and then upon entering the car you have to put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position. Agreed, still worth it!

the lariat and fx4 packages are wastes of money. XL or XLT; this is an econo vehicle; i just test drove a lariat and couldn't see how it was $5000+ more than an XLT. the upgraded stereo is also subpar for how much it costs.
The best part about them is you do not have to option them! For me, the XLT lux package is VERY worth it. Heated Seats/Steering Wheel/Mirrors/BedLiner/Hitch/etc, for $2,345 you would not be able to add all those features yourself.
That said, certainly if you do not value them, the XL is perfect. That is why I am a massive fan of the Maverick. Ford gives you the option to own the car on the cheap (out the door for well under 25), or loaded up!

IMO...the package is a full $1000 too expensive...but Ford can charge that and get it, so they will. I say let someone else eat the premium on these trucks...even if they "hold their value" in the coming 3-4 years it'll be much more cost effective to buy one used. I may pick one of these up 5 years from now as the run around truck...and I'll buy used
I will say you do get a lot for your money. Bedliner alone is 500 worth of value, nevermind adding in all the heated things and more but to each their own!
The market these days is a bit weird. Currently folks are selling Mavericks used for 10-15k over MSRP. So while 3-5 years things might change, the chip shortage is making things weirder and weirder

It isn't $2.4K it must come on the addition of XLT $2.2K package; not counting eco-boost and 4wd options.
Totally defeats the entry level base XL package Ford is pushing that aren't being made yet.
Otherwise it is a gimmick. Ram 700-1200 base models are much less expensive but not for US market. Too bad real competition is banned.

Not only is it not worth what they charge, the XLT package for $2280 is an even worse deal, simply to get cruise control, power mirrors, alloy wheels and token other items. The XL is a loss leader, you get zip for it's cheap price.
Why should you get a Maverick? *They don't sell them in Europe* that's why.

Hmm, luxury package? ... it just marketing term they want to make you pay for it, where all these should be already of the vehicles in the first place.
When the vehicle has a base price of 19,995, there certainly had to be some things removed. Luxury items in my view are items that need not be standard on a vehicle and are indulgences, which this has. Heated Seats/Mirrors/Steering Wheel, all of these things are luxuries. That said, they do all come standard on most other vehicles! haha.
