    I chose a base over an S for the very reason he described, the smaller turbos have a much better feel. The S felt like I had to hammer it a lot more and then it had a much less linear power delivery. People told me I was crazy, but I liked the more streetable feel of the base vs. the S.

    Glenn-love your car! So nice to see a vid on the base 911. I’ve had my 2018 991.2 Carrera since I special ordered it 2 1/2 years ago. I ordered mine with only 4 options: sport exhaust, sport seats (4-way), 20” Carrera S wheels, and PDK, in Sapphire Blue Metallic. I was very tempted to get the “T”. Years ago, I owned and restored a 1972 911T with mechanical fuel injection- which was a fantastic car. I also owned an ‘88 Carrera for several years. When the 991.2 came out I just had to have one.... never thought I would get a new 911, but it’s the most awesome car I’ve ever had! I will never sell it. I was also tempted to get the manual transmission, but the PDK is so fast and fun, I’ve not missed the manual. There truly is no bad 911!!! Enjoy!

    You are not alone. I changed my mind after I left a deposit for a T last year and now I could not be happier with my new 992 base model. I drive it here in Sydney Australia mostly on weekends. I felt like you at the dealership that this was the best car of all models .

  • @msbrownbeast
    @msbrownbeast Před 3 lety +6

    Aesthetically, the use of 20" wheels dwarfs the brake rotors, and make them appear undersized and inadequate for the 911. Large wheels better with the higher models like the GT3 or Turbo as they have much larger diameter brake rotors.

    Looking for a 911, and considering a manual Carrera T at present. Great video, common sense advice, so rare with CZcamsrs on Porsche. Driver focused car and collectible status high on priority list. Your comments on future collectability very interesting. Top of my list is a 997 GTS, followed by C2S. The T has a 25-30% premium on our used market. So probably too high...

  • @philnleblanc6664

    The T is not about “lightweight” and is more about options that aren’t available on a base or an S. THAT is what is going to make it collectible. It’s lacking the HP and get the S instead? No, just get an APR tune and now it has GTS power without paying anywhere near that amount. Make the car work to your advantage, and those who know how to option a car and get the most bang for your buck congrats because you have a winner.

    Nice color on your base carrera! Hope you enjoy it. As you said, there is no wrong carrera. I got a guards red T with 7 speed manual, rear wheel steer, carbon buckets, T interior pkg, chrono clock and fire extinguisher. I think it will hold the value well since it will be the last narrow body T.

    I was in a similar position and chose the T. I wanted carbon buckets (no rear seats), Carrera T interior, the short shifter with PTV and special features like lightweight glass. I want the sport cats and APR tune next.
    I annoyed my wife so much on picking my fun car - I was on deposit for the C8 (but it wasn't special enough and they will be everywhere soon - same price as the 911 as configured), I had a GT4 allocation (but it was 30k more than the T that I purchased and I couldn't justify spending that on a Cayman over a 911 - plus the 981 GT4 didn't wow me and there is very little power low in the rev range), I was thinking a fun SUV like a X3M or a GLC63 (but I'm not at that stage in my life yet), I even looked at C6 ZR1 (just too old, awesome however). I decided on the T because I found a deal I couldn't pass up with low milage and all the lightweight options I wanted and the exclusivity of a special edition 911 with less than 1,000 for the US market.
    Enjoy the car, it's amazing and the base engine is awesome

I love it, and put a soul x-pipe and sport cats, sounds awesome with those burbles on deceleration. So powerful and considering a cobb or apr tune to push it closer to 500hp/500lb ft but it is Already plenty fast!!

    I went back and forth over T vs base. Supposedly the T is a "rawer" base car to appeal to the "sportier" driver. Whatever. If the T has less insulation (not sure about that) to enhance the sound, why then put on the noise insulated plastic rear windows? I could maybe see the torque vectoring rear end being a plus, on the other hand is it really necessary or just another expensive gimmick? Also the interior options on a T are limited compared to the base. Interior trim is gloss black or painted exterior colored. Full leather seats are not offered. Wheel choice is only a select few. When it came time to put down a deposit, I went with a fancy full leather interior and bright silver wheel on a guards red base. I'm not knocking the T, but for me I wanted a fancier spec.

      @guydavies3035 Před 3 lety

      I have base C2. But after paying attention to other users and discussions with Porsche, I seriously doubt whether anyone would notice the rear steer. The difference in handling is so subtle. I didn’t got for manual, and (unusually it would appear) not the sport exhaust either. I saw no point in adding an expensive option that does not improve performance. I might add aftermarket exhausts at some stage, but only if there would be a performance increase. As I got it in Sapphire Blue (which isn’t an option anymore) and the last of the narrow bodies it marks a moment in 911 history.

    • @bokudou
      @bokudou Před 3 lety

      @@guydavies3035 Sapphire blue is a great color! I have no first hand experience with C2 with RWS. Only driven a 991.2 C2 without RWS and it was a joy. I was looking into used CT and noticed a lot of the highly optioned ones didn't have RWS. A few of the CZcamsrs like Matt Farah and I think MotoMan thought it made a difference. I'm hoping they bring back the CT as a 992.2.

    • @guydavies3035
      @guydavies3035 Před 3 lety

      Alex C the manager of my local Porsche dealership confided in me that the vast majority of motorists cannot tell if the RWS is active (and this was backed up in a Nick Murray video). His evidence was that they had problems with 2 different 911’s with various electronic gremlins. The first one, one of the mechanics made the RWS inactive, and it was then test driven by other mechanics (used to driving a variety of 911’s obviously) and then it got sent back to the owner. The owner drove it for several months and never commented, but the original mechanic only realised his mistake when it came back in for a normal service where he made it operable again...but no one had picked up it wasn’t working. On another model, they picked up some faults on the suspension, and found that the RWS had not been working ever on the car, but no one had picked it up in several years. It was based on that very frank discussion that I decided I didn’t need the system!!

    i thought the major selling point is PASM?
    it had a feature where getting a T would have a 20 MM ride lower from factory (not changeable)
    vs 10mm lowered if u get the option with a base car (bare in mind this could be only applicable to caymans but then isn't that why they made the cayman t? so I am assuming so)
    quiet interesting topic honestly due to me being between cayman, cayman t, and saving long term for a gt4 but idk which of these is the most fun to drive in twisties and sometimes around city.

      I have a 991.2 2S with 7-sp manual and I don’t notice any turbo lag especially in sport or sport + mode unless you’re on 6 or 7 gear. It all depends on what gear you’re on and at what RPM. People saying naturally aspirated engine is better because it has no lag. What they didn’t say is it has no torque either. I know this because I used to owned a 997.1 S manual prior to buying the 991.2 S in 2017. From an instant power point of view, the 991.2 is in a whole different world.

I suppose that daily drivability could be affected by optioning the carbon buckets, rear seat delete and NAV/radio delete, but few Ts are spec’ed exactly that way. It’s a great daily car - versatile, fast, and decent fuel economy.
