'Life as usual' possible with China & Pak? Jaishankar tells biz world apply national security filter

  • India needs to put in place a national security filter for business propositions with some countries to evaluate certain national security sensitivities, External Affairs Minister (EAM), S. Jaishankar, said on Friday, adding that as far as national security goes, it is more complex with China. Addressing the 'CII Annual Business Summit 2024' in the national capital, EAM Jaishankar said India has not ignored doing business with China, but "we need to define the issues and take precautions". “For some countries, we have to put a national security filter. In a business proposition, we have to evaluate certain national security sensitivities which may be there,” the Minister said during a panel discussion at the event. He also said that where China is concerned, “we will still encourage people in the country to manufacture, source, and procure in India”.

Because for example a API cost 20rs/kg in local market china sold it for 10rs and drug making companies made a line for it and out own govt helped them buy it with some incentives too, the result local companies stop making and got closed, now wait for the twist the same API is sold for 50rs after there was no competition and were told by Chinese if you don't like the price you can buy from where ever you like.

    World has been taking the cues emanating from India in the past 10 years with regard to external affairs. Now, perhaps the processing of the same has begun. India - China border piece, Qatar appeasement, India out from Maldives, US threatening to sanction etc. We may witness increase in the outputs directed against India more often, in not so friendly ways, from various quarters. The country of C poses a significant security threat to India and its population. It is crucial for businessmen to grasp the common sense notion that if C threatens the well-being of Indian citizens, it ultimately jeopardizes the customer base of Indian companies and their purchasing power for goods and services. This, in turn, will have a ripple effect on these businesses and ultimately impact the Indian economy, creating a negative spiral within the circular economy. It is essential for businessmen to consider the potential long-term consequences that may arise from prioritizing short-term gains in raw material prices, as it could lead to severe repercussions such as economic downturns and business closures. Therefore, businessmen should carefully weigh their decisions. So, I fully agree with the minister's comment to apply security filters.

It is these people who make a killing by choosing to import cheap stuff from China and are the ones doing the most damage to our economy and contribute to thr lopsided trade imbalance in China's favour. We still import a lot of cheap consumer goods & consumer durables from China, despite the fact that we have adequate manufacturing capacities. China has a strategy to dump these goods at prohibitively low costs which will for ever bar us from manufacturing them at home. They even use our neighbours like Bangladesh for these nefarious practices. Unless we have a clear policy to ban these imports, situation will not improve.

But most just talk big big talks and post comments on social media. Don't blame business men, they are the ones creating jobs, taking risks with their own money and helping the nation grow. It's the useless public or customers who just talk about national security and pride but when it comes to actually buying made in India products that's when their true face can be seen. India should suggest UAE to let go of its free tax policies by reminding them of their dying oil reserves...that way it will no longer be a safe haven for insolvent businessmen of our country who take refuge in gulf, europeon or south-east asian countries taking the wealth along with them that was supposed to stay and promote innovation, education and manufacturing in India...other countries will gradually follow suit..and if they try to foil Indian intentions then they will have to do it at the cost of their own economy...only then instead of looking for petty shortcuts, Indian businessmen will think for long-term impacts and invest accordingly...fully money driven businessmen will then automatically start to grow some sense of nationalism in themselves...and by that they dont make life easy only for themselves but also for their and the whole countries future generations to come

    • @iantdmello
      @iantdmello Před 13 dny

      Yes... it's called Product Dumping. The CCP, through subsidies, tax rebates and direct state sponsorship, drives down the cost of manufacturing, and dumps those vast quantities of less-than-cost products into foreign markets with the goal of decimating the indigenous industries of those countries.
      That is precisely why the Americans are in a trade-war against them, and why they have increased the tariff they place on illegally low-cost Chinese goods.
      It's how the CCP managed to place itself at the centre of global manufacturing and engendered a global dependency upon China. COVID finally woke the world up to this fact, which is why (however long it takes, and however much it costs) the West has finally decided to decouple from that tyrannical regime.

    India - China Trade :
    India exports goods worth US$ 16 billion to China.
    India imports from China goods worth US$ 110+ billion.
    (Those are figures of 2023).
    There is NO NEED to export goods to China.
    The US$ 110+ billion worth of goods coming from China SHOULD BE produced in India by Indian companies.
    MADE IN INDIA.
    TO STOP the out-flow of money to China , the Government of India should increase the import tarifs for goods from China to 100%.
    IN that way (i.e. 100% import tarif increase) businesses in India will be able to produce those kind of goods in India.
    BUSINESSES in India should be able to accomplish that in max 12 months.
    One should NOT CRY that a US$ 16 billion market (i.e. China) is lost.
    One should BE HAPPY that jobs are created in India to produce goods worth US$ 110+ billion. MADE IN INDIA.

    Did you notice something. China has an open door policy for entrepreneurs from any country, including India. Ask Tulsi Tanti of Suzlon who made a packet selling wind mills to Chinese when China did not have a wind power industry. Chinese never preach, which Indian ministers like EAM and PM do a lot. Chinese quietly did the hard work and made the country an economic super power. Now the West and India are threatened by its progress. But still Chinese are not reacting. China is the true Viswa Guru. India has a lot to learn from China and it is learning belatedly.

    • @iantdmello
      @iantdmello Před 13 dny

      Yes... but he's not wrong. The reason the Chinese have an open-door foreign-investor policy is that once those initial factories are built, the CCP steals the proprietary technology and intellectual property; so that a state-subsidized Chinese company will start selling cheaper copy-cat products. Then, having outlived his usefulness, the foreigner is thrown out. Look at what's happening to Tesla now.

    India has many manufacturing and trading giants like tata , birla, reliance, bajaj, mahindra and what not long before china open its economy to foreign investors in 1980s.
    But the indian companies only focused on indian market which is quite closed to foreign competition for long time.
    There was little competition from foreign companies thus leading to little R&D on new products .
    For many years these companies were enjoying closed economy environments in india and consumers in india has little choice but forced to by out dated technology and prrofucts

    Do not agree with Jaishankar. Indian government must actively ban import of all those items from China (or from any other country, since Chinese manufactured goods are cleverly repackaged in Thailand, Bangladesh, Vietnam etc and exported to India in billions also), which are being manufactured in India or can be manufactured in India relatively easily and quickly. Example. What is the logic of Indian government allowing mass import into India of Chinese manufactured floor and wall tiles, kitchen utensils and crockery, shoes, building material and hardware fittings, tyres, toys, picture frames and art decorations, even Hindu idols, lights, rakhi, Diwali crackers and decoration, balloons, colours, paints, steel, mobile phones, computers, laptops, refrigerator, AC, air purifier, water purifier..... and millions of other items that have flooded Indian markets. Why hasn't Indian government banned all online stores like Amazon, Flipkart etc from selling Chinese manufactured goods, and infact there should be law that online sellers should only be allowed to sell goods manufactured inside India. Presently what is happening is that every day, Amazon, Flipkart and other online sellers in India are selling every day billions of dollars of goods manufactured outside India, and in this way destroying Indian industries. Why isn't Indian government doing such basic thing like directing online sellers to only sell made in India products.

    There's no competition here between China and India, at least not a close one, start cooperating instead.
