China has deployed advanced J-20 stealth fighter jets to an airfield near Shigatse, less than 150 kilometers from the Sikkim border in north-east India. The J-20 is a look a like 5th generation fighter with circa 1990 stealth technology. It can be detected by U.S. radar long before the Chinese pilots will know they have been targeted. So, to call the J-20 a 5th generation fighter is a bit of the stretch. Coincidentally, there are no countries jumping to purchase the J-20. That should tell you something.

J20 is more like a 4+ than a 5th gen jet. India itself has said that they can easily track J20 jet on radars. They said this last summer. India has had an on going dispute with china and it will not get better.

Jets on the other hand use their air-frame with various composite materials and concealing the bottom of their jets and its missile bays to make sure it absorbs as much as signals as possible to reduce the cross section. Stop watching too many sci-fi movies. There is no true stealth on the planet. Every flying object can be tracked, detected but varying at varying degrees.

Stealth fighters use Luneberg lens to allow detection during peace times to keep real stealth capabilities hidden. J20 is a stealthy 5th gen plane. India cannot detect j20 without Luneberg lens.

Radar detection is not the same as targeting. There have been reports that the F35 can be detected by radar but the US military isn't worried because the capability to obtain a target lock on it is still elusive.
