  • Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar is an eminent diplomat who has been serving as the Minister of External Affairs for the Government of India since May 30, 2019. Dr. Jaishankar has played a pivotal role in shaping India's diplomatic strategies, particularly amidst the dynamic shifts in global geopolitics. A member of the BJP, Dr. Jaishankar also serves as a Rajya Sabha MP, representing Gujarat.
Previously, he held the position of Foreign Secretary from January 2015 to January 2018. He is only the second Indian diplomat to be appointed as India's External Affairs Minister.
Over his extensive 38-year diplomatic tenure, he has held various positions both in the country and abroad. He was involved in negotiating the Indo-US civilian nuclear agreement.
In this episode of the ANI podcast with Smita Prakash, Dr. Jaishankar speaks about foreign media's influence in the 2024 Indian general elections, referring to them as the 'International Khan Market Gang.' He also talks about his journey from diplomat to politician and praises PM Modi for his farsighted policies.
Dr. Jaishankar also opens up about the Prajwal Revanna passport row, saying that the MEA acted promptly on the matter. He questions whether legal processes should be stalled to protect politicians. The External Affairs Minister also discusses 'Parivarvaad' (dynastic politics) in Indian politics, adding that it is fundamentally anti-democratic.

He has worked under UPA as a diplomat. Had not heard of him cause I was not interested in politics then....but post 2014 all that changed. He is one of the gems in the Modi cabinet. Their work speaks. Maybe it's because of social media...be that as it may...Dr. J is one person who has made the youth in India interested in its politics.

So they think they are playing huge role in running India ...
Hit snake right in head policy instead of going after tail ...
Also moniter Indian media ... Pass law against spreading hatred and put 10 -20 crore fine to media that do news reporting baised on Hindu vs muslim score card ...

Majority of the Indians below say 48-50 years of age prefer the kind of aggression shown by Kohli, Ganguly or Sreeshant when it comes to cricket … so same applies to foreign policy too… we prefer smart people like Dr Jaishankar to give it back and shut foreign media’s mouth when asked ridiculous questions
This is the new India and Indians

Ishwara has blessed us with Modiji and gems like Jaishankar Ji for whom Nation comes first. 26/11 was an attack on our sovereignty and appeasement politics stopped us from retaliating. What a shame ? Glad that we got rid of Congress in 2014.

The clarity of thinking and articulation is much more succinct and direct compared to other career diplomats like Shashi Tharoor in the opposition. Shashi's arguments and logic about external affairs seems to be a templated approach from Congress without much vigour and depth. The I.N.D.A opposition has no candidate to govern the external affairs portfolio with the vision and strategic management planning undertaken by Jaishakar.

As a Child I lived in Khan Market . It was a line of small flats for the "refugees" who came from divided India.
    2 rooms 12ft x12 ft
    1 kitchen, 10ft x10 ft
1 long verandah in front of the rooms ( which the people added windows and made it into a common room.
a small courtyard separating the kitchen from the rooms
1 bathroom where there was a tap only.
Climb up 3 steps and then 1 bobmay commode for latrine.
there was a terrace and it was easy to jump the walls of the terrace to another flat.
    there were shops below.
Very middle class people lived there. as most of them had left behind everything and come to India to save their lives from the part of India which is now Pakistan.
The residents did not address the people by their names but by the number of the flat.
    10 number wali aunty,
    22 number wali aunty etc.
the shops below hardly had any business. As children we used to play in the shops and the shop owners let us play happily.
most people living there knew each other.
Now that Khan market has become "Khan Market " ........
Thank you Smita for the lovely podcast with Dr. Jaishanker . It was a pleasure to hear his answers to the excellent questions you asked from him.
