- Apple Studio Display is here and is a less expensive alternative to Apple’s Pro Display XDR. Apple Studio display has an aluminum frame, 12MP webcam and even an A13 Bionic CPU. It's a 27" iMac without the Mac.
I ordered one. I work with two Macs and it’s really the “it just works,” factor that’s most appealing. I used to use and love the MX Master 2 but I had a terrible time waking my display with it. I use a 4K LG 27” display and while it looks fine and the display is nice it’s so aggravating waving your mouse all over the place just to get into your computer. I switched to a Apple Trackpad just to make that experience better, and I think this display will make using my computers even more enjoyable.

The mic quality on that display is fantastic. In fact, it sounds cleaner to my ears than the studio’s professional mic you’re recording with. With that’s been said, I’m a huge fan of your content Aaron.❤️
So the room is a bit actually and I ended up using a lav mic so yes it does sound little bit better at times
Out of my price range and more than I need. Just got the new iMac and I’m so happy with it :)

Love this display. Hoping they release a model that has 120hz and mini LED in the future.
Just get the iPad Pro and MagFlott Magnetic Stand. Boom a 120hz mini LED mini monitor... hehe. Been using next to my Studio Display. I hope to upgrade it in the future if they do come out with one with those specs.
Yes they will at WWDC but it will be a high end professional display succeeding the Pro Display XDR and will naturally have a high price tag.

Love the review/unboxing. I learned something new on the specs. Nice lighting (by the way).
Coming from an LG 27" 4k IPS LED, the Studio Display is sooooo much better and feels incredibly premium. I was hesitating at first, because it's a pricey screen, but using it now for a full workday it's totally worth it. Definitely get the standard glass, because the glare is not that bad. And the speakers are something you'd get from an iMac, maybe a tad bit better.
The power cable actually can be removed but its pretty hard to pull out
I appreciate you mentioning that the Nano comes with the polishing cloth; I was thinking neither model came with it included.

Install Monitor Control and you can control the brightness and volume on any display either via I2C or DDC.

I appreciate your review. I've watched a lot of reviews on the Studio Display trying to make up my mind and the one thing that I think gets lost by a lot of reviewers - which are primarily tech people - is there are customers who are not tech people. I think your review took into consideration that more than tech people will purchase this monitor.I have absolutely no tech and sometimes can be afraid of it and when I plug it in, I just want it to work!! After much research, I decided to order it with the $49 yearly AppleCare because I want support on standby. Again, thanks for your review.

Hi, Connecting my MacBook Pro 16 with studio display, I realized that the MacBook is over-feeding itself from studio display power source quickly reaching 100% charge. Wondering if it will damage the Mac book battery and reduce its life. Any suggestions?

I hope that Apple fixes this “copy/paste” mode when you connect an iPad to this screen (or any other screen) that the external display is still show the black lines, is it so difficult to adjust the resolution from the iPad that the external screen fills completely the iPad resolution?

If I had a Mac studio, Studio display, MacBook and an iPad is there a way to use the thunderbolt cable to make the MacBook a second Screen then using sidecar and universal control have different parts of a Final Cut timeline on each screen and then control everything with a keyboard and mouse?

Unboxing and a look look exactly as iMac. But it gives an impression like thicker.
My M1 12.9 iPad Pro does not work with my Studio Display. I tried both the TB cable that came with the monitor and a new 2M TB4 cable. Neither work. Not sure why.

Hi! I am looking for new display and Apple Studio seems to be one of the best option but... Not only do I have MacBook Pro 2019 but also MacBook Pro mid 2015 (Retina with Radeon R9 M370X) and some Windows computers too. I want to know what will happen when I connect e.g. my old MacBook Pro to Apple Studio Display? Will it work? I do not expect to have 5k image and all features working but some degree of funtcionality especially 4k image. Finally I will replace older devices for the ltes ones (I am waiting for updated MacBook Pro with M2 Max).

I bought the M1 Mac Mini 2 days before the Apple keynote. I originally ordered the Studio Display immediately after the event due to my excitement. After a couple hours to think about my purchase I realized I could get the M1 iMac with 16GB or ram from the Apple refurbished store for less than the Studio Display. So I ordered the iMac and returned the Mac Mini, I think I made the right choice! Looks like I'm still using my 11 year old Thunderbolt display as a second monitor...

I got the Studio Display to use as a dual monitor w my macbook pro and have been having issues with it. When I plug it into my Mac, the internet stops working on both the monitor and my Macbook, which defeats the purpose of getting the monitor. Going to go into the Apple store to ask about it, but I'm wondering if you or anyone else might know how to troubleshoot in the meantime.

I could see the cord being a problem on the display.
Honestly the missing HDR is less of a dealbreaker to me than the missing 120hz. Since all my current Apple devices (Ipad, Iphone) and my monitor have 120hz/144hz I seriously can’t go back to anything less. It just really feels that much better to me.
Not possible on 5k with tb 4. Too much bandwidth would be required.
Thanks for showing it supports HDR in CZcams, but would like to check does it support HDR in FCP or even Netflix?
Studio Display has zero HDR support.

If you ever buy one keep the box, simple free advice. My Mac Studio display died after 18 months. First signs of trouble was its inability to turn on if the Mac Studio was restarted. I was able to to get it to turn on again but this was only after having it powered down the Studio screen for at least 8 hours (were on 240v). Pulled this trick off 3 times but once I upgraded the OS to Sonoma it bricked out totally. Nothing will trigger it to turn on. I now own a $2500 beautiful brick. I'm in negotiations with Apple related to the next step. I can't afford another beautiful brick.

Hi Aaron, do you have a problem when installing a new firmware? I watch other youtubers that when he update the display, it’s no longer able to use or bricked the display. I want to order this display but with that lot of money, I’m thinking again to wait.
No I’ve never had an issue installing the firmware updates. When it first came out it locked up a couple times, but unplugging and replugging fixed it. However I havent had to do that in a very long time as they fixed it.

Very nice. I have a question that no one answered properly. When you connect a macbookpro to a display via thunderbolt cable, does this setup harm the battery of the macbook when using it daily as a desktop unit.?Some say, the machine will recognize that it is powered up constantly and the current by pass the battery so it does not stress it. What is your advise? What is the proper and safe way to use a laptop with a desktop monitor?
The MacBook will adjust battery charging to accommodate it being plugged in all the time. Just leave it plugged in.
I think I've watched this video and a few others about five or six times in the past couple of weeks. I received my studio Display almost a week ago, but it is still sitting in its outer delivery box on my kitchen floor awaiting the arrival of my built to order Mac Studio, which is scheduled to deliver in two more days. As I write this, it is less than two weeks before Christmas, so I hope I can wait until Christmas Day to open them both up. That probably won't happen though. 😂! Can you use this with a pc. I wonder what response time the display is. I love glossy displays, I wish company’s did glossy displays for pc. Shame it’s only 60 hertz. My moneys going on a glossy display from eve spectrum.
Yes it works on the PC. I use it on my work laptop plugged into the USB-C port.
Hi, there is no on and off switch, does that mean you need to keep de monitor plugged in at all times, or could you use a brick with a switch. Will a brick with a switch do harm to the monitor if you use it regularly, because when I leave the house normally I switch everything off. Also what is the power draw if you keep it plugged in? Could you also check if it possible to hook a Nintendo Switch via a "HDMI to USB Type-C 4K60Hz Active Adapter M/F" up to the monitor and see if it works wit sound and all. Can you charge a phone with one of the three usb-c ports? Thanks in advance, good luck.
No, it’s not meant to be switched off. It just goes to sleep by itself
A lot of people rely on a lower quality web cam so soften the look a bit lol

The camera output is not great because it almost always shows just a cropped portion of the whole 122 degrees or so ultra wide image. So I'd not expect any SW update miracles.

If you’re not running OS X 12.4 the webcam won’t work. I’m on 10.10 and can’t risk upgrading right now.

Can you please check Windows compatibility? I’ll need to use a windows laptop from work (meh…) and I don’t want to have two separate monitors. The windows laptop comes with a usb-c port (I’ve been using it with a 4K lg)
