Americans: Having a meltdown about the perceive underachievement of the national team.

True 😂
The reason that the USA is so high in the FIFA ranking is the same reason San Marino is so low. The federation they play in.
Exactly! If they were in Europe, then they would be at the bottom. You guys are correct about my comments about the term soccer, so I’ve edited my comment. Still, it doesn’t change the fact that the U.S. men’s national team lack any sort of competitive edge when it comes to facing bigger South American and European teams.
@@DeVaughnRitchie24I have no problem with the term Soccer, it's a distinctive term which avoids confusion and is quick to say. I have no problem using the term football, but it always comes with the need for clarification in the US (and also Australia, Ireland, and places where Rugby is popular). Italy has historically been great at the sport, and look what they call it
@@DeVaughnRitchie24 Thinking that the name of the sport is what's holding back any improvement of a team is quite shallow. Read this back to yourself. What type of sense does this make? The name ultimately doesn't matter, you *know* what sport this is.
@@BloodRider1914thanks for the clarification. As someone that lives in a heavily Hispanic region of the US (where the terms football and soccer are both used to describe ⚽️), we really don’t care all that much. We only say “It’s called soccer” to rile up fans from other countries

English fans be like:
In the last couple of years, USMNT lost to Slovenia, lost to Panama at the Gold Cup, tied with a Jamaica side that is at it's weakest in years, they lost to a Trinidad & Tobago that gave up 5 goals to Curacao. At some point, we need to face the music that USMNT is a shit show and the players don't care about international games like players from other countries care about international play. No amount of Premier League players can save you from occasional embarrassments when the players don't care.
Lol the Slovenia game wasn’t in a fifa window and had all mls players. And none of the a-team were at the gold cup loss to Panama.
Fans thinking players don't care is just copium for their inability to accept their players simply aren't good enough. You don't have to care about anything but yourself, since it's their ego and reputations on the line, and they all care plenty about themselves
Panama and Bolivia may be easy, *but don't sleep on Bielsa's Uruguay*
Uruguay will top the group based on their past performances, they're a very good side, defeated argentina away 2-0 last year. So basically the usa vs. Bolivia game will determine 2nd place. If the USA goes into that game, thinking it'll be easy because it's Bolivia, they could very well be in for a rude shock. Bolivia isn't a bad team, it's just that they're playing in an incredibly difficult confederation
i was at the game, it was a rough watch. felt like 11 individuals and not a team. limited build up, not knowing what to do in possession, no defensive shape on the counter attack.
we need a rethink. whether that means humbling ourselves and realizing how far we actually are from consistent international success,
or choosing a system that works for our players, even if it means benching our best players talent wise
When Andrew Hudson and BJ Callahan led the USMNT, they looked great. Then Berhalter came back and evidently learned nothing from those results. We went back to play from the back, then down the wings to full backs that do not cross very well, to forwards that are not good targets. When we played with our best players and let them play the way that they are best, we were very good. When we play Berhalter-ball, we suck.
Berhalter needs to get fired

I agree with you partially. The United States could hire a better coach. But you can't compare their team to the European teams just yet. The Squad of the USA is just not ready yet. They have many young players such as Reyna, Tillmann, Musah, Cardoso, Balogun and even "star" players like Pulisic and McKennie are just 25. Compared to the European teams, for example Croatia, they have a lot of experienced players, or at least one who played on the top level to lead the team. This is not given in the US National Team. I wouldn't expect much in this Copa América or in the WM 2026, but maybe further down the way, they built a talented squad lead by few experienced superstars (because like you said, the US has the money and the facilities, it just about the engagement)
Pulisic won a Champions League. He's the talisman. The young player excuse doesn't work because when the US fielded older dudes they missed a whole-ass WC. Players like Pulisic or McKennie have to take the responsibility or bail. Argentina won a World Cup with 3 players over 30, the rest were under 25. And we don't have nearly as many resources or infrastructure as the US. I whole heartedly believe it's a mentality issue. Using my country as an example again, in 2018 we had a subpar team full of veterans and a few rising youngsters, a godawful coach, and we scored 3 past France after getting toyed around the whole group stage. Your guys lack confidence, belief and/or love for the flag. You cannot lose by 4 goals to a team just slightly better than you on paper and not absolutely lose it against the coaching staff if you're a Public or a McKennie.
As a forest fan, thank fuck Matt turner is linked with a move away. Couldn’t save an excel spreadsheet.
As supporter of the USMNT, I wish greg could see this, he’s been shocking for us for a while now, literally guessing on shots, shots going through his hands, poor positioning, etc. we need to be starting someone else.
@@asapaul7671who would you start is the question? I'm argentinian and I'm getting some serious us at the 2018 World Cup vibes. Our goalkeeping options were Armani and a fossilized, bench warming Willy Caballero. It's looking dire 💀
Turner was fine for a short while but he never should've stayed in england to begin with, should've gone elsewhere in europe
Think his price just dropped FFS. If he fell off a boat he wouldn't get wet
@@SuperRavensfan101 was he fine for a while? when? haha
I still feel like the US need to focus on shipping as many players to Europe as possible, much like what Japan are doing, because obviously the MLS has nowhere near the level of competition of what any of the teams above them in the world rankings are playing against. So their ceiling is pretty low rn
None of the players in the XI vs. Colombia play in MLS. None of the 6 subs did either. Two players on the 27 man roster play in MLS, Miles Robinson (gets paid too much to be worth it for a team outside of the EPL, and he's not good enough for the EPL) and Shaq Moore (recently back in MLS from Spain). That's it.
The US has plenty of players abroad. MLS players are depth pieces at best. MLS has nothing to do with the US's ceiling. Coaching does.
@@E_Bailey Coaching and grassroots player development are the problem, not just in US but also in Canada(especially the player development side)

But when we’re the US national team ever considered a better team than Colombia. I always thought of them as fairly even and even Colombia being better.
The game was played in the United States and most of the fans were from Colombia
Probably a lot of Colombian Americans
I'm not sure why Colombian Americans would support Colombia, the country they left, over the United States, the country that they willingly live in. Sounds like mercenary behaviour to me. At least support both equally.

Football is more important than politics for patriotism.
@@beno1129 the same can be applied to your American players playing in europe and gaining european citizenship but they still choose to represent the country they willingly left. Your logic is beyond idiotic.
@@anonymousbanana204 I'm not American. An American player choosing to play for the US over, say, England, isn't exactly the same as Colombian-American fans choosing to support Colombia. Columbia is really good rn. They are above brazil in world cup qualifying. Havent lost a game in like last 30. The usa team, although the most talented they have ever been, are unbalanced and not well coached. After the world cup fiasco we should have gone other direction. I think the USA has too much of an ego when it comes to any sport they play ,they just dont have patience to actually build a good young generation
Their biggest problem is they're a big fish is the tiniest pond bar OFC. So they're constantly beating down on some very subpar teams which inflats their egos. I don't think the us is a dark horse at this copa. That implies they have a chance of winning which they do not. They'll get knock out in the quarters against whoever comes first in group d Brazil or Columbia.

we have so much talent but NO ONE to utilize it creatively. there’s not a single american manager that’s worthy of the talent pool we have. we need to go find some coach from somewhere else that has an actual vision to help us going forward
Bielsa's Uruguay is definitely the third best team in the Copa América

Yea, the US lost against Colombia in the group stage and also in the third-fourth place game.
@williamcross210 and we beat you again. And will best you next time too, South America is not México, and the island boys
There's a lot of problems that you haven't talked about here, one of them being the US people only seem to recognize the premier legue as a good league, if told them that Luis Diaz in Porto was better than all of the current national team call-up, they would flip out.
Switzerland, Austria, Poland, Serbia etcetc, would be higher in FIFA rankings than the US, if they played only 2 other fairly decent nations in qualifiers and region cups, and that's ok, just need to accept that that's the current state, maybe in some years time, that'll change.
You can't want to play offensive agains other countries outside concacaf for now, maybe in the future.
Btw, the comment section is full of other great opinions about this one, I think you haven't looked at the picture as it should be looked at.
I think firing Jurgen Klinsmann was the dumbest thing US Soccer has ever done, which is saying something because it's been nothing but bone headed decisions before and since. Jurgen had the team looking good using that German inspired attacking style of play.
You seriously thought the USMNT was the 3rd best? 😭 Bro we aren't top 6 w our coach
Pls turn up the mic volume
Looking forward to Coping America at copa now
don't worry, they didn't invite Trinidad and Tobago
The four best teams in Copa America are Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Colombia and it's silly to argue otherwise. I think Ecuador is probably a little better than the US and Mexico too, but would hear arguments to the contrary.
Landon Donovan has deservedly taken heat for comments about players not being sufficiently "American," but there is a real point to be taken: the ultimate ambitions for US Soccer should be that players that aren't good enough to make England, Germany or the Netherlands shouldn't be good enough to make the USMNT either, much less be key starters. Robinson, Dest, Musah and Balogun are very good players, but the way forward is to not be forced into this too often (I think Dest has the quality to make the Dutch side though). But that way forward requires some massive changes to be implemented domestically, and that's not going to happen.
Z for US men's national team coach!
As a brit who has been living in america for a couple decades now, i want my fellow americans to not turn into obnoxious English football fans with delusions of grandeur. While i agree the players have gotten much better in recent times, and the national team hasn't done much better at World Cups. Its important to remember that many other countries are also improving and becoming stronger. Whether its teams from the far east, smaller South American nations, or African teams. The USMNT doesn't have a divine right to be at any final of a knockout competition because the nation is large and rich. There have been very few major upsets at international level. They come few and far between. This needs to be taken into consideration.
Having said that. They shouldnt be losing 5-1 to Colombia. But bad performances happen from Time to time. Hopefully it's a wake up call to the players.
I know this is 6 days late, but good. I hope they’re nervous.
Wilfred Nancy for next US Head Coach
It’s funny cos USA has the talent pool, the facilities and the infrastructure to be the best football/soccer team in the world. But just How?!
Simple answer; 💰 🤑
Round of 16 at 2026 at best with greg, if the group is hard enough could even get grouped
You’d be lucky to make round of 16. There are definitely 16 teams better than USA right now. And Gregg isn’t making any improvements…
Realistically the team just isn’t that good. Pep himself couldn’t get these dudes past the round of 16.
Usa don't have the players to go toe for toe
The difference between southgate and gregg is southgate actually has world class players to carry him
Our Head Coach budget is crazy low
