You don't have to look far to find similar examples, by the way. Hungary, U14 B league, 2022/23: Kerekegyházi (yes, the same team!) are 21 goals behind Kecskemét before the final match. Which they win 22-1. Was it fixed? I don't know. Probably not. It's crazy that Kerekegyházi manages to get such unlikely last day victories twice in a row -- and I think it's noteworthy, so I guess you didn't know, or else you'd have mentioned it? -- but I suppose it can happen.

Hungarian here and if there's any chance of you seeing this, a few thoughts: In terms of team names, the -i endings in Hungarian are just there to make the town names into adjectives (Bugac - Bugaci (From Bugac/Bugacian) FC, so you can just cut those off. Same way with Ferencváros(i), Paks(i), and so on (though Miklósi is a rare exception as the village's name ends in an i). Onto the case: This league is around the third level in the Hungarian U14 pyramid, most teams here are from villages with few hundred people at most. Apparently it was the ref who got told by the Szigeti FC match ref that it ended up 43-1, just after the match, so they didn't even know it during the game. The matches are only 80 minutes in this league, and the scoreboard also broke after 19 goals, so the ref had to do it all. Apparently there were 4 goals in between the 59th and 60th minute, which does need significant speed from the losing side bringing back the ball haha For anybody interested, have a look at "U14 botrány" (U14 scandal) in google, index.hu has a good article about it, DeepL or something will surely translate it well

Team that conceded 43 goals was just unlucky

1. They did not stop scoring, their last goal was scored 2 minutes before the end of the match 2. The now 2nd placed team beat that exact team 29:0 when they played in the middle of the season, so its totally reasonable for them to score 14 more when you are actually trying to score as much as possible.

This goes out to all those who made fun of us, after the club I played for opened a second youth team because the class was to big, only for us to get destroyed every week. But 13:0 was as worse as it got, so looks like we weren’t so bad after all.

Occam's Razor in action: "The simplest explanation is usually the best one." The simplest answer being: They cheated to win the league by scoring exactly the 42 goals needed. If possible check video footage of the game to see if the opposing team even tried to defend or if they were part of it.

I remember my cousin coming back from an u10s game (or some similar young age group) after winning about 20-0 and my uncle said that the referee stopped the clock at every single throw in, corner etc, because funnily enough, the good referees get saved for the high level matches and the inexperienced referees get saved for youth matches. Especially if there is something important on the line like a league title, the referee is probably highly inclined to add every last minute of stoppage time on. I can imagine an inexperienced referee in a u14s game adding every single second when the ball is off the pitch back on to the end of stoppage time after 30 goals have already been scored

as a greek football fan ( and a former olympiacos fan) i didn't watch the conference final. Ideologically i am against the creation of a third shitty European competition, that operates like a crutch to mask European footballs shortcomings in competitiveness and constant fucking over off the little guys (tv contracts, non existent FFP, more matches that weigh more on the weaker teams etc). It's a travesty, an attempt at dangling a shiny thing in front of the peasants' (lower leagues) faces. Fuck conference league. the only thing it has succeeded is making Europa league worse (by stealing half its teams) and therefore widening the already large gap between that and the champions league, which is the opposite of what should be happening if you plan to include more teams to your sport.

Massive amounts of cpoium there. 42 is simply to high without help. One of the reasons why the men's record sat so long for Australia is simply because you run out of time. You score, your opponents are not going to rush back to take a kick off. Simply scoring will take a good minute of the game meaning they had 46 minutes to score 43 goals + stoppage. Meaning they can not have missed a single shot or failed to score in a single attack unless their opponents restarted the game as fast as possible.

When I was growing up, in Spain (before you were born, lol), I remember seeing Spain v Malta. Spain needed to win by 11 goals and won 12-1 to qualify for the European Cup. I watched it in a bar in 1983. (The score was 3-1 at half-time.)
