I'm deployed to the desert and there isn't a drop of water that isn't in a plastic bottle in sight. These videos are hilarious and really help take my mind off of things. Thanks for posting man. Can't wait to get back to my kayak and go camping.

This trip of yours made me want to kayak in this type of "swamp" environment. Florida would be a little too far from Huntsville, AL. I found an area near LaGrange, TN - North MS - that is basically a hardwood swamp. Its on the Wolf River. The section we are going to paddle is called the "Ghost Section". About 9 miles. There are only a few CZcams videos on it. Pretty cool adventure it will be! Ill upload a video after our trip in May! (Hoping not too many Cottonmouths out!!)

+SailingandSuch It was a tough choice... but I was able to sit in a few before buying and I ended up with the Old Town Heron 9. Mainly because it just felt the most comfortable to me and because it was the lightest one I could afford ( 37 lbs) . Some of the lakes I want to go to are only accessible by hiking in and I wanted something easy to carry. I think it will work good for getting into the small lakes and streams around here, but I can see getting a touring style yak for cruising the Columbia river and other bigger lakes in the future If I want to start taking longer trips on bigger water. I see how some people end up with a garage full ! at least there cheaper than motorcycles ha ha ha.
Oh cool! Old Town makes good yaks I've heard and read. That's pretty neat you will be hiking the yak in to the lakes! Really cool... Hope it serves you well. I'm going to go ahead and guess you will want to get out there and do some overnights more and more. Enjoy your time on the water bud!

I can't believe you were here! This is about 2 miles from me. I drive across the West Arm bridge every day. This is a bad place for Hobie kayaks with pedals. I bent my pedal drive on a submerged tree stump on my very first outing, a few years back.

Sir, I've been watching your videos for a while now and this has got to be my favorite vid! This trip has really made me want to go out to that place! I prefer the beach but that place looks like a wonderful place to get out and unplug from the world! I do wish someone would teach you to fish though. That way you would not have to depend on "luck" to get some fish! Love the attitude and the laugh! Keep up the good work and maybe someday I'll have the privilege to go out camping with you!

Always look at the bottom of the trees,to see if they're wet or not. As long as there is not a lot of boat wake. A dry tree bottom means it still rising.

Nice man. Like your little doc you made, That was awesome.
Something that might help your fishing. When it's winter and you have colder waters. Set your bobber till the worm is almost all the on the ground. Then slowly move it a little at a time. no jerks, just pull slowly. Try to fish in deeper holes in little coves and such. IM not expert by far, but this has worked for me. This little minnows you showed will work great too. hook one through the tail so it stays alive. Hope that is helpful. Beautiful little area there. Thanks for giving a little history behind the name "Dead Lakes"

Really enjoy your channel. You do some great work and the great times you have really come across. I just moved to lower Alabama (Baldwin County) but found the SS channel before I got here. I've mostly backpacked but you've convinced me that there is a kayak in my future. Interesting thing: Down here people have names like "Fat Lighter", "Lighter Knot" or "Lighter Wood" for what most people around the world call "fatwood" -- oh well -- the things I find interesting. +adventure yak 3000 I haven't seen any live ones while kayaking. I have seen their tracks on sandbars where I've been camped though. I don't worry about them a whole lot. I typically do freshwater trips in cooler weather when alligators and snakes are less active.

I bought a hammock I keep in my backpack with a rain fly,takes up no space at all ,the idea was to impromptu camp just about anywhere..I've used it a few times,want to try it out this winter,I live up north in NH..anyway great content..subbed😎👍✌️🍿

a tip for the next time you have avocado, bring some lemon juice and seeded mustard along, when mixed together it makes an amazing dressing, i would recommend finding a ratio that you like before hand though

Hi, Your adventures are really fun to watch. To help with starting a fire pack some dryer lint or steel wool in a waterproof pouch, That stuff really works well. We kayak on Lake Eufaula.

Cool adventure. I'm 55 and have fished the chipola and applachicola river all my life. Some have but me personally have never had any luck fishing in the dead lakes. It looks like fish heaven but it's not. Nice possum on the half shell aka armidilla...

Thanks G! I agree, you need to learn and get out there and enjoy what all the sport/hobby has to offer. The pants? They are Mountain Hardware pants made from polyester (no cotton) with stretchy properties, maybe elastane in them. I try to buy all my outdoors pants with some stretchyness to them. Make a huge difference when you wear them, almost like pajamas. Columbia makes them as well at a little cheaper price point and still good pants.

+SailingandSuch No problem. I kayak fish that area and all you need is cut bait on a leader. Almost guaranteed to catch something. Nice local with some decent sandbars also.

Great video as always. I'm constantly laughing when I watch your vids, best kayaking videos by far! Come do a trip on the Bartram Canoe Trail in the mobile tensaw delta. Floating campsites, land campsites, Indian mounds, swamps, creeks with sandbars and crystal clear water. If you'd like any more info let me know because we know of some beautiful places around here to camp.

+michael bass Yea, there are a few lol. I chose to go in the cooler months so they are not near as active. That's my first run in with them while kayak camping I believe. Used to get them a lot while hunting and they were bothersome..... Glad you enjoyed it Michael! Thanks for commenting!

I didn't see any info on that Amsteel rope. Once I used regular nylon rope casing but it only lasted about 3 times, then broke on me. It works great at first.

Love watching your solo kayak camping! It's relaxing, interesting and educational. I am a 59 yr old man. I know nothing about kayak but I'd really like to do a solo kayak camping like you do one day. I am learning from your video everything about it. I live in Florida and there are alligators in every pond, lake or river .... . I am wondering if you have ever thought about it when you set up your tent. It'd be pretty scary when you find a 12 foot alligator by you in the middle of the night:). Thanks for sharing your solo kayak... .
