The Ronaldo incident is true ! It wasn't like a cold or a headache. He actually had a seizure. However, France was outstanding and deserved to win. Plain and simple.

please watch the game again and see the team attitude during the game. Ronaldo wasn't the whole team. Rivaldo Cafu Roberto Carlos etc ... that's why they are 11 not 1 . Zidane was alright . but you can not even compare Brazilian vs French Team . the best team of that world Cup was that Brazil who won against Netherlands that's all .

Brazil were not prepared to play the final, but if Ronaldo was fit to play as planned, I believe fate would’ve been different for Brazil. The people today have no idea what impact Ronaldo had on his team. He was the best player in the world at the time, won the Ballon D’or the 2 previous seasons. He was the most feared dribbler in the world, no one was close to his level, not even Zidane. If he was healthy in the final, I don’t think the France team could’ve handled him. Their players don’t have the ability to handle Ronaldo’s cleverness & trickery. In addition to that, Ronaldo’s explosiveness on the ball was unmatched. One superstar can carry an entire team, and no player was ever as big of a game changer as Ronaldo at his peak.

Ronaldo suffered a 'cerebral convulsion' before the game. the Brazilian players were visibly altered with this episode. were not concentrated, because they feared that the ronaldo suffered another seizure in the field. France could have won anyway, but ronaldo's participation in the final has hurt the Brazilian national team. it is enough to see a move in which ronaldo collides with the French keeper and the leonardo is desperate with ronaldo.

Look at France's squad. Their players were better at the time. How could a fit Ronaldo rescue Brazil? He's a striker, not a defender. Brazil lost 3-0. Regardless if Ronaldo would have been fit or not, Brazil's defense would have still failed to cope with the talented players of France. France were simply better in all aspects.

    3.Current Confed Cup Winner 1997
In a nutshell, they won EVERYTHING and reached the final of 1998
And the fault for losing to France was neither Ronaldo´s nor fatality. It was the coach´s fault for not taking Romario (Yes, that guy who won the world cup 1994 for Brazil with Bebeto and who was part of the team that won those 2 competitons of 1997) because of ¨personal¨ reasons, hidden under the pretext of injury, which was bullshit, because by the time Brazil played against Denmark in the quarter finals, Romario was scoring goals in the Brazilian League. France were phenomenal in the fine, and more than deserved their victory. I don't think Junior Baiano is making an excuse for the defeat, although it is certain that their top striker was a shell of his former self. I believe he is simply narrating the events of the previous day and there is no question the shock had a psychological impact on the team as a whole. But of course, I don't buy his argument that the team was so concerned for Ronaldo that there had been no prior focus on the task of beating France.
We cannot take anything away from the fact that the Brazilians were outrun, out-passed and totally outplayed in the final. If anything, perhaps a fully fit Ronaldo would have been able to notch Brazil a consolation goal. I don't think it would have wrestled the title away from the host nation. The French played such a complete game.

Explanations don't necessarily equate to excuses. If Ronaldo was healthy, I still believe France would have won, but barely. The game would have been more competitive, with France winning on a 1 goal differential.
Even if Ronaldo did not play, sidelined due to injury or something of the like, the game would still have been more competitive than it turned out. But the dynamic within the locker room changes when a team suspects that the livelihood of a teammate hangs on the balance, especially when they witnessed the event as it unfolded.
There is no excuse to be handed. Ronaldo shouldn't have played but the team still allowed him; management should have foreseen how Ronaldo's presence, after his incident, on the field would alter the focus of the rest of the team.
But you cannot blame his teammates for not having their full attention on the game, especially when the game has little ramifications outside the pitch but the effects of the game on Ronaldo's wellness may have.

On one side you keep calling this defending champions Brazilian team as the best one ever and on the other hand they started showcasing themselves as a bunch of crybabies without Ronaldo...!!?

That's not the point. All the players were dispirited, they were so focused about the health of one player rather than to winning the game in itself. They had no life in them. Have you ever experienced that before?

Especially defensively and in midfield. Zidane got two big goals, but it wasn't up front that France truly dominated that day. Heck, Gui'varch could have had himself at least a hat trick had his finishing been more clinical.

  • @vinipinheiro88
    @vinipinheiro88 Před 10 lety +9

Everything went wrong for Brazil in that game, and the only one to blame is the "coach" named Zagallo.
For years, the team showed that our defense was a shame!
OK, we had Ronaldo, Romario, Rivaldo and others.
But we saw in that France tournament in 97 that it could be not enough when the time to play the world cup arrived.
Aside that part, Zagallo choose to let Juninho and Romario out of the tournament for reasons that nobody knows until this day.
Not to mention the decision to put Ronaldo in the game since the beggining in the final match.
The guy had problems that day, almost died, nobody gave a damn to that match after that.
And in the field, the players were more concerned about what would happen to Ronaldo that to the game itself.
I'm not denying France's effort, or saying that they only won because of Ronaldo mysterious ill state. They could had won even if nothing weird happened.
But the whole world is sure that it wouldn't be by a 3-0 score, with Brazil unable to hold the Ball for more that 5 seconds...

Zidane's fan was so blind. Don't get me wrong!!! Zidane is a legend but he is not the best player in France Team at WC 98. He is not the most important key leading France to the final. With me, Zidane is really a great player at WC 2006, but not 1998. Except the final match, he is nothing special. Look again the previous match and you will see: why France beat Croatia and Italia??? And what did Zidane show off at that time??? In contrast, Ronaldo play like an important player leading the brazil team to the final match (4 goals, 4 assist and many phenomenon skills). Not just a merely striker, he is the center for brazil attack at that time. And you see when he was sick, brazil could not attack well. If Ronaldo was fit, Brazil could make a very competitive match with France. And remember, France won, but Ronaldo is the best player in WC 98.

Just gotta say that even in the Champs Elysees in Paris they put a huge picture of Zidane's face on the "Arc de triomphe" saying "thanks zizou". Even the french recognised that if zidane wasn't there in 98 France would not have won. The man is a legend and that is all there is to it.
