Jeff Abel, aka Excision, is considered to be one of the founding fathers of dubstep in North America, dating back nearly two decades. In this video we’ll be taking a deep dive into the rarely told story of how Excision became the biggest name in dubstep, from his early years as a starving artist in Kelowna, to becoming the industry machine he is today. We will delve into the musical side of his project, as well as Jeff’s business side as the owner of Lost Lands Music Festival, Bass Canyon, and Paradise Blue. No stone is left unturned in this career spanning, comprehensive documentary.

Lost lands is an incredible gift to the world
100% agree ..
And Shambhala ✌️ I would love to experience lost lands
Let's not forget Paradise Blue! 💙
how about the underpaid artists who he's piggybacked off of for years
Infrasound though
I have been following Excision since 2010, my son was 13 at the time, since 2019 my son and I go to Lost Lands every year now!
Goals
thats awesome, that was the same year i started listenin to this newer thing in the states called wubbs, just kitten, on a serious note tho i still remember the first song by him i heard was "wasted" but to this day "Darkness" is easily one of my favorites
man does NOT get enough love for being an actual 🐐
and the next goat is right here^
Didn't expect to see you here, you're killing it dude
Woahh viperactive!! Legend
@@audioeatsare you going to lost lands this year?
Love yout music dawg ^^
Went to my first Thunderdome this year, One of the top five experiences of my entire life.
You need to get out more then
Wait until you go to the original real Thunderdome 😉
@@thegamebosszero why would he go to that one. See all you buff fairies muzz for 2 days?
People still talk shit about Excision. Claiming it's all ghost writers lol. Dudes an OG icon.
He ain’t drake lll lol
Well. If there is proof out there then go off that
Yes he’s been around forever, but you can’t deny the fact that he is more so a business man DJ now more than anything
i think he definitely has help with his music. Hes putting on one of the top festivals in the US im sure he is busy. You can tell his music is not the same from before. Hes done so much for the community that i dont even care he deserves to just chill
Idk how anyone talks shit about Jeff. I’ve seen him preform more than any other artist (at least 10 times) over the years and if I’m blessed to make it to lost lands again I’ll be at his set every day he preforms 100%.
I first started listening to Excision back in 2009 and first saw him live in Atlanta in 2012 on his X Rated Tour. It’s insane how far he’s come.
I started listening around 2010 and fucking finally saw him live for the first time in 2021 at freaky deaky 😂 I wish I didn’t wait that long, I always wish I went to see him on tour with his executioner stage and any Destroid shows :/
@@brianyoung1050 I was lucky enough to catch Destroid at Ultra. It was better than I ever expected.
Shambala 09 and 10 are forever goated. Still play those tunes.
Excision getting the recognition he fucking deserves. I'm glad to see this video
As a Kelowna local and long time Excision fan, this was really vindicating to watch! This is the true history of North American Dubstep, and it never gets talked about. People don't realize that this shit evolved completely independent of Burial and the UK dubstep movement. So cool. Thank you!
his visuals are seriously the best of them all
Thx for giving Jeff the respect he deserves. The excision project has brought heaven on earth to me and I’ll forever be grateful of what he has done for the scene. Great video ❤
This is one of the coolest channels I’ve found this year, thank you for your service ❤
Babe wake up, audio eats just posted a new dj documentary
so under rated as a channel!
These days, I’m usually more of a deep dub listener, but I will always ALWAYS go to excision if it fits in my schedule. The man has yet to disappoint me, and people that hate on him just like to hate popular things I’m convinced lmfao
That's crazy man. I used to listen to excision back in 2011 in Middle School. I downloaded a random dubstep album with a dinosaur on it. I thought it was sick as heck I got hooked on right away. now I'm an adult 26 of age. I've been to multiple excision festivals Bass canyon thunderdome going to my first Los lands this summer. just honestly crazy to me the effort and dedication that this guy has put into the scene
I’m going to my first excision show the nexus tour I wanna go to thunder dome and lost lands so bad… someday
if it has a cool dinosaur on it or cool robot on it you allready know lmao. my first experience was some random show in philly with mt. eden. Then after that i went to some rave after party. I ended up going to warehouse parties more than anything and got to see the rise of Trap music there. I remember my first excision show which i believe when funk hole vip came out. Thats set had the best intro ever, had the crowd going fuckin nuts. my buddy seen him at the tla in philly when his xrated album was out. He litterally destroyed that venue, had the chandeller fall, ceiling tiles blasted, the big ass curtain fell lol. hes permanetly banned haha

Found excision in 2014 and haven’t stopped listening to him since !
Can we be friends
This channel has definitely been one of recent favorites that I found
Bro your channel is still one of the only channels I genuinely get excited for when you upload these vids are so damn entertaining thank you 🔥
I discovered Excision in 2011 when I heard his track Swagga playing at Burning Man.. He's one of my biggest musical influences. Though I have yet to have the pleasure of checking out Lost Lands, this year will be my fourth Bass Canyon and I'm incredibly stoked, as it's my all time favorite festival. Thank you for all you do on this channel. I've really been enjoying these documentaries on so many of my favorite artists. Keep up the great work!
Another top video! Thanks for making them!!
This is why he’s The Dubstep God, and I’ve been saying this long before I knew his history. Lost Lands is a blessing to this Earth.
Thank you for sharing, this will be my second Lost Lands this year and I couldn't be more excited. This video has made me gain a new appreciation for Excision & all that he does!
You make it easy to watch a 30 min video ! Genuinely enjoyed every second of it and as always appreciate the in depth knowledge you put into making these 🙌🏽
thanks for the upload. been waiting for this one for a while. thank you
Incredibly entertaining video! Production value is incredible and your storytelling is awesome. Can’t wait to see future videos
I was waiting for this video!! It's great, I really didn't know much about this very important artist in the scene, and I was missing out A LOT.
Ty
These videos are so important! Thank you soooo much! as a 16 year dubstep die hard fan your doing important work for the scene
Just wanted to say absolutely this channel and the content. Truly no other channel doing deep dives into dj backgrounds and history like this and also helps show newer people to the scene who these guys are. Keep killing it dude🤘
This channel bout to take off 🔥 ty for all these deep dives
Great video!! I first got into Edm in 2017 and my friends told me about Excision in 2018. This year will my 4th Lost Lands and my 5th Bass Canyon!!! Can't stop won't stop😁🥹🫶💚🤌😤🤝🤘
Keep up the good work bro, love you’er videos
Another great video man, killed it!
I’m only two minutes in and I can tell this is gonna be awesome. Excision is one of my favorite artists of all time. Love this. Thank you
I used some clips of your videos, thank you for uploading them! They're crazy good quality and very stable
@@audioeats no problem happy to help haha. I make no money off the videos anyway so feel free to keep using them if needed
Thanks for making this dude. Excision is kinda an elusive creature since he’s so introverted that he rarely ever does interviews. Thanks for sharing his story. I’ve been a fan since 2012 and witnessing his comeup in the industry has been glorious. Going to my first Bass Canyon this year and I’m fuckin PUMPED!
Im very glad i ran into your channel!!
I'm glad you did too!
Excision fan since 2011, seen him 30+ times since. Thank you so much for putting so much effort into telling his story! He really has contributed so much to the scene, and it often gets overlooked. Excellent video, can't wait to watch more of your material!
Great video! glad it came across my feed, now I need to watch more of yours.
Great video as always! I remember listening to the Shambala mixes and his other songs in High School which really got me into dubstep. One thing I noticed is his most recent Nexus tour was not mentioned in the video.
Excision, Caspa, and Rusko got me into dubstep. Thank you for this video!!!
Awesome documentary, thank you 👏
This will by my first year going to Lost Lands 👀🦖
Love this channel thank you!!!!
Been waiting for this one! X the GOAT🐐
Been out of the EDM scene for a while. However, every now and then I look back and recall the memories I have being on the rail at Excision shows and Lost Lands.
My kids and I will BLAST Jeff’s music on the way to work and school.
Excision is the GOAT. Love you, Jeff!
I probably wouldn't be listening to almost 100% bass music in one form or another without listening to excisions 2008 & 2009 shambhala mixes. 08-11 are 4 absolute classic mixes I can't imagine seeing them live. great video as always
oh and side note, Skrillex's first project was the My Name Is Skrillex EP before Scary Monsters
Whoops, I made a video on Skrillex last year so I should have remembered that 😂
Spot on
Yo i listened to that mix for years. Checked it out again at the beggining of this year
@@audioeats no worries, I only know this because I was actually a fan of my name is Skrillex wayyyy more than Scary Monsters lol much preferred the electro style than the abrasive screeching on monsters
Here before this blows up
This Is What I'm Waiting For!!! 🔥❤️
Great video man ,subscribed !!!
His sets are always so sick, especially in person
So glad I found this channel
Saw Excision last year at EDC 2023 for the first time and fell in love. I’ve already seen him twice this year! I went to the Nexus tour and just saw him the night before last at EDC Las Vegas 2024. Can’t wait to see him again!
Awesome video! I learned a hell of a lot! Subscribed!
Audio gets great input on all these EDM dubstep artists , it’s f*kin awesome 😎
Such a cool video. Thank you for sharing! Please more of the documentaries!!!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Feel free to check out of all of the other documentaries on my channel
Nice documentary! I love watching these sorts of documentaries about topics I'm interested in. Well done bro!
I don't know how many freakin time Ive watched Excision live IN PERSON but it will never get old😂🤣 LEME GET THIS STRAIGHT, IF YOU HAVENT SEEN EXCISION PERFORM LIVE IN PERSON THEN you don't KNOW..
Excision been helping me rip PRs in the gym for the last year
Fire video!!!
The Path of Totality was actually my introduction to Dubstep.
Excision is also playing 4 other festival this year with lostlands and bass canyon he is playing Elements Music Festival, EDCLV, Shambala Music festival and Electric Forest festival.
Saw excision for the first time in 2012 in Philly. He opened for Flux, Adventure Club, and ZD. Very underrated lineup at the time
2013 was a vibe, the sound at crush az was so loud the ceilings started to break and dust fell all over the crowd.
Lost lands fam!!! Here before a million subscribers🎉
I love jeff so much and watching this video makes me so jelous. So envious of him. Living in kelowna this hits super hard. So proud of this guy. So much love and respect 🙏 thank you for existing
Seriously watching this had me super emotional. Thank you
Dude these videos are fucking awesome. Keep it up
While not the biggest fan, Excision's and Downlink's "The Underground" will never leave my playlist. It's funny how a lot of the seemingly super level headed one's have the most outrageous sound.
Going to EDC this year. Can't wait to see Excision live again
Wow haha I was not expecting to see my own clip in this 😹😹
Recently found your channel and have loved every episode from this space. Keep it up amigo!
Thanks for uploading that!
@@audioeats thanks for the credit 🫡
Great work with this video pal.
Thank you for this video
Went to the first 5 lost lands and it was incredible to see the growth of the festival and him as an artist
Ill be at Bass Canyon 2024, my 4th time attending and I cannot fucking wait. This video was amazing and gave me a lot of background.
I attended Bass Canyon in 2019 as my First. Show. Ever. (On a whim too while on vacation). And if it wasnt for Excision I likely wouldnt have found current day dubstep exciting for an even longer period of my life.
I love this man, his contribution to the community cannot be overstated.
me too! see you there!
Great work on this :)
Excision's music was a vital part of my upbringing as young teen/adult and I'll always be grateful to him for that. I stopped listening during 2017 and switched primary genres from EDM to Hip Hop when the South Florida scene was popping off and Bass Music basically fell off for me, but not for lack of quality, just life. I've been re-listening to current EDM/Bass Music recently and I'm glad to see OG's like him are still keeping on! Excision, forever ❤
The effort you put into this is appropriated
I’ve been waiting for this video for fucking long time!
Thank you so much for this! Also, lol Space Laces next??
Yes! Thank you!
thank you!!❤
Been listening Excision since early 2010-11. 🙅🙅♀️🙅♂️
If you talking Excision you gotta talk Datsik. Those 2 were on everything and went basically everywhere together in the early days. Datsik was my intro to dubstep with songs like Crunch and Vanish and will always be up there as one of the greats to me regardless of the allegations he took later in his career. Excision is a GOAT dont get me wrong but Datsik is right there alongside him.
exactly, you took the words out of my mouth, aside from the fact datsik is way better than excision ever was excisions sound was always inferior retreat was incredible nuke em, jenova project, apples ect
@@TheOfficialVexMeow My kinda dubhead 😆
@@TheOfficialVexMeow Exactly, Datsik is the actual GOAT, without him, Jeff would still be a nobody...
Do a video on Zomboy!!!!!
Wow I learned so much here. Been going to raves for 6 years but finally gonna see excision next month. Im even more hype now. Thanks!
Started with Yin Yang, been loving Excisions music since 🔥
Great video! You guys earned a new sub! Where my headbanger's at!?!?
Yo great video!!
Hope to run into you at shambs this year. The village is something special and seeing x there is a bit of a right of passage
Hopped on the Excision train in 2013, haven’t left since
I saw one of the only Destroid sets, and I never thought I'd see one of the only. That album is so crazy
I was in the crowd for Destriods final set in 2017. It was during Night Shine the stage caught fire
YO this is for some reason this is so inspiring because im a inspiring artist in dubstep
x was one of my first (the 3rd) DJs i ever heard i follow his music since 2011
Thank you for this great video!
Unlike other dance music genres who look to the past all too often, Bass music seems very fixated on the future, so there aren’t too many people talking about the early stages of the genre. This video taught me a lot.
I also have a question: what’s the trancey song that starts at 29:58?
Banger video
so good! love him!
Let’s all give X his flowers!!! Thank you Jeff!!!
Saw him at Future Sound of Breaks in Miami 2011. Absolutely turned the room to rubble. Been a fan ever since. Also Kill the Noise has put in more behind the scenes work than anyone.
Holy shit the realization that Korn had a tour and their support srtists included skilled and excision is some alternate reality shit I can't believe
Sullivan King went on tour with Avenged Sevenfold a few months ago, so the metal + dubstep connection is alive and well
They also included Datsik and Downlink
Thank you so much for the video. I was waiting for this one. Ideas for next video? Sullivan king, Ray Volpe, crankdat, Kai Watchi, Wooli, Kompany? I wish I had the power to research like you do for these videos. Again thank you so much for this video❤️
Saw Excision again in Chicago in late December 2023 which was the first stop of his tour, insane visuals and lasers, not to mention the music was fire, I was shitting myself the whole time
