- Over the past 15 years, Zeds Dead has become an absolute titan of bass music. They run one of the most prestigious bass music labels in the world, Deadbeats. They have collaborated with countless heavyweight EDM artists like GRiZ, JAUZ, Subtronics, Peekaboo, NGHTMRE, Oliver Heldens, and so many more. But not only have they collaborated with some of the biggest stars in electronic music, they've also worked with rock and roll legend, Perry Farrell, who is also the founder of Lollapalooza music festival. With such a spectacular list of accolades, Zeds Dead deserves to have their full story documented and preserved. Which is why in this video I will be telling the complete story of how Toronto natives Zachary Rapp-Rovan (aka Hooks) and Dylan Mamid (aka DC) crossed paths at a young age, joined forces as a producer duo, and ultimately formed Zeds Dead, going on to be one of the greatest bass music acts of our time. They are one of the most unique electronic music duos, as they have mastered a variety of genres, from dubstep, house music, drum and bass, and so much more. Come along as we explore the entire story of Zeds Dead, from how they met as young kids in Toronto, to making hip-hop under their Mass Productions moniker, and ultimately building the Zeds Dead project from the ground up, going from an obscure underground duo to the top of the global EDM mountain.

Stumbled on this through Reddit-- really enjoyed it! It features A LOT of my footage/art (including me singing that Jamboree abomination haha). Glad to see it getting second use. I'll pass this on to the guys-- I'm sure they'll dig it.
The jamboree thing was hilarious! If you have social accounts you want me to link in the description let me know
@@audioeats Naw, don't worry about it. Fun facts though; Hook's dad was my baseball coach when we were 7 years, Hooks and I used to be in a graffiti crew together in highschool (Hooks was a prolific bomber in his day), I made the Zeds Dead logo for the guys in my first year at College for Graphic Design and Hooks was the first person who introduced me to making videos (we used to make school projects together on his old digital-tape camcorder). DC also dated my sister in highschool haha. I go way back with these two-- good people.
@@callumgillies9611 haha that's wild dude! Really cool that you guys have kept in touch over all these years and that they keep you involved with the project! (I'd kill to see those school project videos, I made a few myself and they're hilariously terrible lol)
I always liked their style. Very grungy and psychedelic. They have a very distinct sound compared to a lot of other artists.
You know what would be cool? If at the end of these docs, you recommended some tracks from the artist that you like/think represent the project well.
Solid idea!
So nostalgic, Its been amazing to seen them blow up and been part of the ZD family , been watxhing them sets since 2013. Eyes on fire will always be a all time favorite, seeing the blow a speaker while watching "Frontlines" @ Paradiso 2017 ( my favorite set they've played to this day) lost ones will always be my most favorite songs of all time, I even dedicated it to my wife❤.
This video is so dope man I hope this gains a lot of traction with your channel. We need more informational videos on artists people love. Can't wait to watch this deathpact video after.
I appreciate it! Thanks for supporting the channel 🙏🏻
Strange this one doesn’t have many views. I never saw it in my feed either. I had to hunt it down.
My thoughts exactly 👀
Ugh!!!! Thank you for this!! Wild how this video just slipped under the radar 👀👀 love you boys forever!!!!
One Three Nine caught me off guard. I wasn't expecting bass house from them
Same, especially not on Night Bass
They have always played alot of house in their mixes and sets too. Altered states is like the only one I remember not having alot of house but Full flex express, dead of winter, snowstorm, BBC mix, mad decent mix all did
They’ve done house before but I do agree with you in that I wasn’t expecting this house!! When I first heard it the style reminded me of wax’s style
Dang. I remember going to the graveyard tour in Denver. I paid my friend $20 to drive me from Wyoming to Fort Collins, grabbed a bus to Denver, and continued bus hopping and walking til I made it to the theater. A little into the show, a guy asked if I wanted some Pop Rocks and they were NOT only Pop Rocks... ended the night at a party on the 30th floor of an apartment downtown. Completely forgot about the Killabits. I thought they were going to explode! Thanks for the blast to the past. Keep these up!
That sounds like a wild night 😂 You should check out HNTR, he's one of the guys from the Killabits and he makes techno now
@@audioeats damn!! What a find!! Solid tracks on this project!
saw them live in 2011 for the first time. tons since then. I love how many genres they produce and play. Always a great time.

Idky I got emotional. I love them so much and everything they do. Loved them since the beginning. 😭😭😭 I can’t wait for Coliseum. I wish they did more curated events in New York or Boston.

I appreciate it!
just stumbled onto to this via utube recs, and i love it
They also had a basically a residency in Portland from 2010-2014 I swear they played a show around the area once a month.
wait Portland OR? I'm living here
first saw them in NYC in 2011, and I've been to as many shows as possible since then. I know I broke 60 shows a while back but it's hard to keep track. These dudes are the pinnacle of electronic music in every way. Zs up!
60 shows is insane 🤯 That's dedication!
@@audioeats I got that Zeds Dedication if ya kno what i mean!! Also have their logo tattooed on my left forearm lol
wild i had no idea fresh beets was a zeds dead precursor
The 🐐s
Name of track at 0:27?
Zeds Dead is so much more decorated than this video gives them credit for, maybe that’s just coming from me a huge ZD fan
It's definitely a condensed version of their story for sure
ZD true 🐐
...Every day, is a school day...Nice work🫡
Well, i guess this only further proves my super fandom for these two because I knew most of this video 😂 even seen most of the interviews 😂

@@AndySmirnov-mp4nv not that I saw but I was 10 ft from the front in the middle the whole show. Packed house and there is upstairs balcony seating. Yeah too loin for a baby, maybe muffled head phones lol
