- Hey! If you are watching this video, you may be planning to use CBX or curious about this service to access the Tijuana International Airport and its direct routes within Mexico. I used CBX to fly from Tijuana (TIJ) into Guanajuato International Airport, and overall - I found my experience using CBX worth the time as it was quick and easy and saved me a lot of money in flight costs compared to fares from Southern California airports. This video will share my experience using CBX to fly from Tijuana airport.
I hope you all found this video helpful in planning your next adventure. Let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Great video and info. VERY helpful!
Wow dude well made video and very comprehensive. Thank you
Wow, this is super helpful. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video!!! It really helps!
Thank you. Very useful video.
Thanks for sharing this vid, it was super informative
Very helpful info! Thank you for the video.
Thanks for the information🌸
Thanks very much
Gracias esto ayuda mucho
Awesome!!!
Helpful video im,going to a trip for 2weeks in the Tijuana international Airport in a week and im going to cbx with my siblings and cousin
Thanks for the thoroughness, I'm using CBX for the first time tomorrow
How was your experience?
@@moni1404 smooth! I followed the steps provided in the video. Much more convenient
@@Profound_Travelz After crossing the bridge into the Mexico side, did you have to go downstairs into the airport and go through a bunch of security checkpoints? Last time during Covid we had to do that along with filling out some covid questionnaire.
Thank you
I go to this airport every 1 year for Mexico and I think I’ve been here 5 times
Thank you for the video. Very informative, might be using cbx this week and if not in November/December. I do have a question though if I do leave this week from Vegas to Tijuana airport, does the bus have to drop me off in the SD side and I have to take cbx?? My bus stops directly at the airport.
Amazing video!! Thank you for explaining, do you know if you can go out the airport of Tijuana to go an eat in the city and then return for your flight once you already use the cbx from San Diego to Tijuana?
Thanks, Mabel. Once you cross CBX into Tijuana International Airport, you can exit the airport. Please note that CBX won’t allow you to cross until 2-3 hours prior to your departure time. So your time in Tijuana will be limited. Safe travels!
Thanks for the helpful content. Much appreciated. Quick question if you don't mind. It is better to fill out the FMM form online or should I just go to CBX and fill it out in person or does it even matter?
Hi Al Bee - I recommend you complete the FMM at CBX. It’s a quick and easy process. Safe travels!
@@MIKEONTHEMOVE czcams.com/video/QPtsCT9-v9I/video.html
1:16 I know this nitpicky but yes you can get cbx from airlines I’ve found them to be just a few dollars more so I always book direct with cbx
Thanks for sharing! Hey question did you park there? Or got dropped off? Thanks I will be using cbx soon & don’t know if i should drive or get dropped off.
Hi @Paula. I got dropped off but, there are lots of parking options available at CBX and surrounding business too. Safe travels!
Thank you!
Does it support Mexicana de Aviacion Flights from Tijuana?
Thanks, what about car parking long time and pick up and drop off ?
Thanks man, this helped a ton, now the only concern I have is where to park my car, coming from Phoenix arizona, 😞
Thanks! Where are you headed to in Mexico? CBX and other surrounding private lots offer short and long term parking for all types of budgets.
I would NOT PARK HERE somewhere else, as my car was stolen and others too. And they couldn't even refund the parking , but they still my parking space I paid for. Just my advice.
There’s also no parking at all on most days and not worth risking missing a flight because you end up having to park streets away. Better to pay someone to take you and get dropped off.
What about Uber from the border?
What lot did you park in?
@jumpman247 I parked on the side of the street lot , which you still paid for the spot. I would suggest if your going to park there get donlot 1,2 3 witch are gated.
I have my Mexican Visa card and need to complete the process to become a temp resident. If I cross using CBX and fill out the fmm, do I need to have them stamp the visa “canje” at that point or after I get off the plane at the La Paz Airport?
How do you know that you purchase the CBX ticket instead of just the flight tickets
Hi great video . Do you know if there are any wheelchairs for elders to walk through the cbx ? 😊
Hi. Thanks for your question. CBX provides wheelchair and mobility assistance to and from the Tijuana International Airport through its “Assisted Pass Program”. You should also contact ur airline in advance to request wheelchair or mobility assistance once in Tijuana International Airport. Hope this helps.
do you have to use cbx or can you just go straight to the Tijuana International Airport
Question, if get get my visa in Juarez Mexico, I know I don’t have to open my documents until one of the USA agents opens it. Do they accept people like that?
Hi Mike! Is there any wheelchair assistance available? Thanks so much!
is there long-term parking for travelers and how much does it cost?
Hi, is there way to rent a wheel chair to get from Parking lot D to the terminal
Can I pay the pass when Im there Or just on line ?
can I use my CBX ticket to get to tijiana Airpot even the departure date is 3 day in the future?
Do you have to park at cbx to use tunnel to Tj airport? Or can I park at secured parking in San Diego and take Uber to cbx tunnel and show my boarding pass?
Similar to any transportation terminal (I.e., train, bus, airport), you have the option of parking at CBX for a fee or park elsewhere and be dropped off. There’s many more affordable parking options outside the CBX terminal.
or do u get a visa at thr aitport if i dont have one nis it nessary if i dont fimd a hotel i. tewana i was thinking in san diego
to get the cbx card im ariving from peru with my passbook n ticketwould i get the cbx i plan to stay at tewana for 2 days them meet relative for diner at san diego
Is the bridge open 24hr a day? I have a flight at 6:30am. Can I take the bridge to get the flight?
Yes, CBX is open 24 hours. Highly recommend you take CBX rather than crossing at San Ysidro Border Crossing.
Hey there, question what did you scan to get in at the Tijuana security checkpoint
Hey! To complete the Mexican Immigration Form (required to enter CBX), I had to scan a valid passport or passport card. Let me know if you have additional questions.
Was the system you scanned your passport a US CBP system (or Mexico). Thinking it’s CBP as you exit the US. Can you confirm?
how is the return trip? is it just as easy to walk across back to US?
My return from CBX into the USA was much quicker.
Hi! Did you get charged to get the visa? And can I go through there if I’m flying out from TJ to Chiapas but final destination is Guatemala?
Hey! Non-Mexican nationals will need to complete an FMM (Mexican Immigration form Tourist Visa) at CBX before crossing into Mexico. The FMM is free. As long as you are flying out of Tijuana International Airport and have a CBX ticket, you can cross using CBX (one way or round trip). Let me know if you have additional questions. Safe travels!
As far as I understand, which I have not done this process, you do need need a visa to go to Mexico if you are a US citizen.
@@Wakaflockaflank USA citizens will need to complete the FFM form at CBX/prior to entering Mexico. Although mandatory, the FMM is not a visa. FMM form can be easily completed at the CBX entry point. Note - a payment of migratory may/will required if staying in Mex longer than 7 days.
@@Wakaflockaflank There is no visa. The Mexican Immigration and Customs agent just stamp your passport and put a date 6 months out and you're good to enjoy Mexico.
I’m getting an error when filling out my FMM app online, it’s saying something about 180days from departure … does anybody know what this is?
That sounds like the amount of days maximum you can get. But they used to write it on the fmm after you arrived at your destination. Now that they have this new electronic way I’m not sure, but I know 180 is the maximum time you get on a visitors visa
Is cbx only to connect flights? Or can I also use it to get across borders as well?
Sure. As long as you have a boarding pass and passport, once you are at the airport, you can find an exit into the city of Tijuana.
What if you don’t have a passport?
You have to have a passport. Especially when dealing with airports
How does it take to fill in the forms and the process to get through?
Arrive 3-3.5 hours before your flight because the Immigration line is long to get your passport stamped to go into Mexico. Go to the FMM kiosk to answer a few questions and the kiosk will spit out the FMM form for you. To get to the next step, the agent will ask for your FMM form and boarding pass on your phone or physical boarding pass. The next step is to pay $30 per person if you are staying in Mexico 7 days or longer. They will not ask you to pay the $30 FMM fee if you stay 6 days or less. Then you continue thru and will be stopped to pay the $30 CBX bridge fee. You pay this on-line and print out the QR code or pay at the kiosk there. The agents at the airport are very helpful. You got this.
Hello Mike. I will be traveling to Central Am. in a few days. Do you know if I need to fill out the FMM Form? I am only doing a stopover of a few hours in Mexico DF. So not really a stay in Mexico. Can't seem to get the answer on the website. Thnx.
Hi Vital - you will need to complete the FMM in order to enter CBX access bridge into Tijuana International Airport. The form is free to complete and accessible at the CBX terminal. Safe travels!
@@MIKEONTHEMOVE muchas gracias.
@@MIKEONTHEMOVE Do temporary residents of Mexico have to fill out the FMM?
Using this in 3 weeks- did you have to do a health questionnaire?
Don't think you have to do a questionnaire, I used it last November. Maybe they required you to mask up if that.
Do You need a passport if you're a Mexican national.
How can i acros from phillippines going to mexico tejuiana airport
Traveling to Mazatlan in July. I have a valid US passport but my wife might not be getting hers in time for our trip. I paid for CBX is she required to have her passport and what are my alternatives?
You need a passport
What happened? Im in the same boat i dont have a passport
Unfortunately you need your passport. Me and my wife decided to cross into Tijuana and parked our car by the airport
Is a passport card only ok for cbx or can i use it to fly from tijuana as well?
Yes! US passport cards are acceptable for CBX and entry into Mexico / Tijuana International Airport. And you can use ur US passport card as a form of valid ID for domestic flights within Mexico too.
Can you leave the airport before your flight after walking across?
Yes, once you are in the Tijuana International Airport, you can exit the airport into Tijuana. Keep in mind that you can use CBX up to 24 hours before your flight departure from Tijuana Airport.
Didn’t they film stranger things there?
How will I have access to my FLIGHT BOARDING PASS before crossing the bridge?
You can print them out online or through a kiosk. There is also a desk that can help you as well. I know Volaris has a TJX IATA code that bundles air fare and CBX in one ticket.
I will be using CBX and have a window from 7:30-7:45 and says I have up to two hours… and my flight is not until 1pm is there only specific times I can use cbx?
Hey! Thanks for the question. Are you crossing from the US to Mex? When crossing CBX from the United States to Mexico, you are permitted to use the bridge 24 hours prior to the departure of your flight.
I am a permanent resident of the inited states and i dont have my passport i only have my permanent residence card and ny California Id woukd that be enough to fly from TJ to puerto vallarta? Im crossing from san diejo
Thanks for your question. Unless you are a Mexican Citizen, you will need a passport (book or card) to complete the Immigration Form also known as FMM to enter CBX and into Tijuana International Airport. I suggest you try to complete the FMM in advance here: www.inm.gob.mx/fmme/publico/en/solicitud.html
If I am a mexican citizen, i don't have to fill out fmm right?
I did it before and you don't fill out the Mexico one but the U. S. A form
Hi i am going to Mexico through Tijuana but i do not have valid passport. Will i still be able to use cbx with just my id and birth certificate??
Hi Jorge - my understanding is that if you’re a US citizen and using CBX to enter into Tijuana International Airport, you must present a valid passport. Safe travels!
If you have the ticket on your phone you don’t need to make line to get ur ticket print ?
Right! Having your cbx ticket on your phone is sufficient
How is it with people with dual nationality? Do you still need to go through immigration?
of course, man, Mexico and the USA are sovereign countries, they are going to check out anybody crossing over 🙂
My travel agent said that Americans who are traveling to Mexico ( Cancun) will NOT need a passport to fly out of this airport. Is this correct?? We will inly be using our Cali license as I. D.
Hi Eliz. A passport is required to cross CBX and to complete FMM form. www.crossborderxpress.com/en/requirements
I think they removed the ability to go through NAFTA members using only a driver license after 9/11. 🙂
Besides if you get injured in Mexico in a car accident or end up in a hospital, trust me, you want to have a passport or you may have a hard time getting back home. Just saw this situation with some people doing snd excursion from a cruise ship and got hurt with no passport. Not to mention that they won’t let you go until you have paid cash or credit card for services rendered.
Can you go through cbx or cross the cbx with just your California ID and or birth certificate?
You will need a valid passport or passport card. This will be required when going through Mexican customs either prior to the bridge crossing or entering the airport.
@@MIKEONTHEMOVE but that's only using the cbx you need a passport? Because I just had a friend and also my ex sister-in-law went to Cancun through t.j. airport just using their California IDs and brought the birth certificates just in case but we're never asked to show their birth certificates.

Can you go in to CBX with a Washington enhanced driver license.
Hey. Thanks for your question. To cross into Tijuana International Airport/Mexico using CBX you must have a passport (book or card). This is needed for completing the FMM (immigration form).
About how far is San Diego airport to cbx
About 23 miles or around 25-30 minutes. There is a bus that connects to it from SAN airport at Terminals 1 and 2.

Wait can't you just walk in from the border and take a taxi to the Airport?
For sure. You can cross the international border at Otay Mesa or San Ysidro. But CBX is meant to eliminate the hassle and create a stress free experience. For $30 charge to use CBX round trip…it’s a service to consider.
Do i need a Passport even if i have a dual citizenship?
@LuisC - proof of citizenship will be need to enter CBX. As a dual citizen- Either a valid USA passport or as a Mexican National, you need either a valid passport, consular card, INE credential, birth certificate or Mexican nationality certificate. Also, don’t forget your boarding pass and CBX ticket. Hope this information helps!
Are those x-ray machines and desks before the elevators so that CBP can choose to conduct exit controls (immigration and customs) at certain times? Is that then funded by CBX bridge revenues or taxpayer funds?
isn't that for Mexican national security to check people coming into Mexico? As is their right as a sovereign nation. I would imagine it's Mexican tax payer dollars right 🙂
Can’t you just park in San Diego and take Uber to the airport directly instead of going through the CBX bridge?
Uber and Lyft cannot cross the border per company rules last I heard. Another option is to Park in SD if you prefer, walk across the border and uber to airport. My favorite option is to park in Otay Mesa at paid parking (cheaper and fenced in) and take the free shuttle to the airport, about 5 minutes. I am driving from Yuma. Usually we just drive to Mexicali and use their secure parking, but not all locations fly out of there.
@@bobinyuma1 Could you please let me know which parking place is reliable in Otay Mesa ? Thank you a lot !!
@@bobinyuma1 Is that the lot at Southwestern College Higher Education Center? How often do the shuttles run and is reservation needed? Thx!
@@ccfully nope, researched was was online, paid 15.00 a day, and shuttle comes at your request. There are two or three in the area. I also saw open spots owned by cbx, but they are not reserved, so not guaranteed

@@MIKEONTHEMOVE thanks, I'm catching on! I'll just take a taxi or Uber cross over, get processed, then rent a car. You know, in case I want to head over to Santa Rosalia, and Mulege.
Hi I live in SD, so I'm thinking of flying to Cabo San Lucas using TJ airline. So far from my understanding go to CBX, fill up form FMM how much ? , then bridge
Did you have to pay for the FMM?
Only if u staying over 7 days.
Details on parking?
Don’t risk it. Hardly any parking the last few times I’ve flown out. And I mean none! People end up parking streets away in the business park - which is not long term parking. Find someone to drop you off instead. Otherwise…worth it.
Never knew this existed, when was it built?
About 2014-15%. It’s simply amazing!
Cbx terminal is where? In San Diego airport?😮
CBX is located in Otay Mesa right next to Tijuana Airport. There is a shuttle that can take you there from San Diego airport, Santa Fe Depot, or even San Ysidro trolley.
@@michaelhorgan9525thank you much
Will the sentri pass help?
yes. Came back 2-19-23, about 6pm. The regular CBP line was about 30 minutes, the walking sentri was 1 minute. I know, I forgot my sentri card and had to wait, while sentri had no one using the lane. Go figure
If tj airport is international why can't I fly there directly from the us?
It might just be international based on the length of runways I dunno. That's a good point lol.
It is because of SAN (Lindbergh Field). SAN is only 30 minutes away from CBX and Tijuana residents or expats just go there for their domestic flights. Tijuana has had service in the past to Asia and you can connect to Mexico City which does have flights throughout the world. There are flights at Vallarta and Cabo last time I checked to SAN. LAX also has flights to various Mexican destinations as well.
@@michaelhorgan9525
I'm trying to figure out if CBX is worth it in my case. I thought it was a good travel hack to get there quicker, but not if you have to get there 3 or 4 hours early 😞
I have a friend down there....there's a direct 1 hour flight on Volaris to her town from TIJ airport. So coming from SJC, if I fly to SAN, go to CBX, cross into Mexico, and then fly down there, and CBX only takes a couple hours, it would be a 5 hour process, which would be a huge improvement from the 8 hours total if I fly to LAX and take an indirect flight from there (from LAX, they stop in Guadalajara).
So I dunno....do you have to get to CBX four hours early?
A lot of people in Southern Cali just cross over and fly out of the Tijuana airport to other parts of MX because then they pay Mexican prices for their flights instead of American prices. I bet it’s even cheaper if you hide or change your VPN location to TJ when booking online.
Is there support for wheelchair 🦽 like at airports
Yes they do offer wheelchair service but you will need to transfer over to a second wheelchair once you cross the border into the Tijuana airport.
Hi you don't need the covid 19 prubb. Thanks
Do you need your passport ??
You must have a passport if you go through the airport.
CBX is wat to expensive To go round trip in the next 10 days will cost $92.00 for 2 persons this is way to EXPENSIVE NO WAY , JUST GO ACROSS THE BORDER GRABA A TAXI and pay $10..00 going and $10.00 coming back. NO F> WAY
