  • Memorial Day weekend kicks off the summer travel season, and experts say this year could be busier than ever. Cross Border Express, or CBX, in Otay Mesa connects passengers to the Tijuana Airport in Mexico.
You can save hundreds of dollars and hours by traveling to Mexican destinations.
For the CBS 8 crew, it was an easy drive to Otay Mesa. Paid parking is available, and CBX says it's best to reserve your spot in advance.

It’s a pain to fill out the paperwork online. You fill out the FMM, then you get directed to another site which then you need to create an account. Then After make a payment to get you FMM to finally print out.

Tickets are less because US airlines are allowed to $crew customers

No, they cost less because they are domestic flights in Mexico instead of international flights

A lot of those flights are operated by ULCC carriers like Volaris and Viva Aerobus which operate a lot like Spirit and Frontier. If you are used to Spirit and Frontier then they are not bad. Volaris and Viva charge for every little thing.

Not long at all. Once you get off the plane you follow the sign to the CBX terminal you show your tickets and documents, the only part that may take a lil while is immigration..that line can be 45 minutes to an hour or 2 depending how long the line is and how many custom agents are working. But nothing compared to driving thru the border. I’ve waited 6-7 hours to cross by car. I’ve been thru cbx twice and from the plane to CBX parking lot has only taken me a little bit over an hour..make sure your passport isn’t 160 day close to expiration. They don’t tell you that.
