This is a excellent eye opening for me thank you Dr
Thanks
Thank you!
Thankyou
Thank you for doing this. So appreciate it
What I like about these podcasts are the people that advocate foods and good health really do look good and preach what they teach ..
I loved this discussion. It was fascinating, and I learned much. I will be getting his book. Thank you both very much.
When I went to the eye doctor a while back, he told me I have the early stages of cataract, macular degeneration, lipid in my eyes, etc. I had no idea lipid could be possibly seen in the eyes & the early signs of diabetes. That visit opened my eyes (no pun intended) to take my health a lot more seriously and be proactive. I’ve been eating healthy, exercising more and spreading the word of how important eating well & exercising is to anyone who will listen.

Same here so how to hold it off
What are you doing to help stop cataracts and 2hat food
How educational was this...... Thank you😊
I really value and appreciate all these podcasts. My challenge is trying to digest each point. It is so fast. So lots of stop and write down then continue! It would be great to at the end have a summary in bullet point of key points. So helpful.
Thank you for changing my mindset on so many matters of life. Grateful

Thanks so much Dr Li (and Dr Chatterjee). Addressing the increase in body weight between 20 and 60 when, as you said, the body’s natural metabolism stays the same, I think (in my own experience) the most important thing you can do is keep your activity levels the same. You can’t control the stresses that life throws at you but you can keep your activity levels the same. In fact, the exercise actually helps limit the harmful effects of the stresses ( relationship, financial, health problems etc). Unfortunately most people don’t keep up their activity levels which leads to increase in body weight and all the health consequences that accompany that. I’m not saying it’s easy, but it works.
There is no way, nor is it or it practical for me to keep the same activity level I had when I was in my 20-50 years old at 66.
As a retired person, I have more time to be active now then when I was younger and working full time. I might not be doing as many marathons and 1/2 marathons, but I am active through out the day each day with running, biking, hiking and walking. I think being active into your senior years is possible for most people (I know not everyone) and necessary.
Just bought your book! Looking forward to reading. Thank you so much. Love my green matcha tee and my coffee w/o sugars, syrups. Alcohol, I spent months in long term therapy. I think however for those people who have a healthy relationship and do not abuse it, ok. I believe all can be done in moderation. I will drink a coke once in a great while, but diet drinks, sacherin whatever, no thank you. Thanks for cast and look forward to your book.😊

I like his answer on alcohol. It’s the whole picture, but alcohol is not health promoting, rather a question of how robust is your health to handle it.
My Dad used to say. Everything in moderation, including moderation. I think that's a good message.
Absolutely love Dr Li. He makes so much sense to me. I have his books.

Let me save you some time in this 2 hour book advert (which also contains a million CZcams ads AND sponsored product ads) 1:40:00 Toms, Mushrooms, Chilli peppers, Avocado, leafy vegetables, beans, legumes etc, etc Basically, everything anyone with half a brain knows is healthy for you. No one really cares about all the science behind it. The facts remain, calorie defecit, cut out all the shit and all the bad refined sugars, keep your protein high to maintain your muscle mass, do I.F as best you can, walk or do some sort of cardio (HIIT) best for fat loss, and do at least some sort of resistance training. Do all, or at least some of this and you will lose weight. There is no magic food that is gonna do the work for you, it's the whole package you need to focus on. And the reason why people struggle is they are generally lazy or have no focus, drive, determination or discipline. Encorporate this and you will look and feel better.
I fart like crazy when I eat lentils, beans. Yes I soak them overnight. I love them but the farting is just too much. I have to shower even 4 times a day the week I've had even one bowl of legumes (except green beans), cabbage, and eggs. What should I do?

Some of the fruit juices don't list "sugar" per se, BUT they contain "fruit juice concentrate" -often grapes are used, to sweeten the juice while they can still label these juices as "no added sugar." Sneaky & misleading marketing at best.
Fruit juice is an overload of fructose. Children should require a prescription to be allowed to drink a can of soft drink, with 10 teaspoons of sugar in it.
This is not a diet It is an adventure in enjoyable lifestyle. cheers
amazing insight! So much great and NEW info i've never heard before. Now I understand why beef tongue tacos render so much fat when cooked. I never 'saw' the fat but, they are so fatty.
Thanks so much for this interview! I find it fascinating and love Dr. Li’s enthusiasm and knowledge. How can a relatively slim person tell if they’ve got an excess of visceral fat or, on the other hand, not enough body fat to be in good health. Since body types vary I think it’s not as obvious as it might seem. I know that being under your natural weight can also slow down your metabolism as it adapts to the lack of calories, and this can create all sorts of problems that are just as damaging as being overweight… if you know you’re not in optimal health, how do you troubleshoot the issue?
@mlouw8218 Blood work! That's one way to know your intrinsic 'markers', and thus your health status.
For gaging visceral fat - get a dexa scan. Be sure you are contracting with a provider who can not only advise your bone density, (which is the most common usage for DEXA), but can also 'see' the visceral fat, liver fat, etc.
From there - say for instance you do have excess visceral fat - and you change your diet/lifestyle to address that - get yourself a bioimpedance body fat scale (they aren't that pricey) to monitor your progress. 😉
@@barbarafairbanks4578 Oh, cool! Thanks for taking the time to reply 😊🙏

The problem with these type of videos with sited studies, is that they are studied by men, on men.
Weight gain after menopause is a fact. Your metabolism changes.
As a post menopausal women who has been a lifetime athlete, and who has grown older with my female athlete friends, we see it in real life.
I have the same diet and same exercise plan as I did at 40, which was the last age that I showed no visible extra fat.
If anything, I now live even healthier than I did at 40, because now I get more sleep than I did now.
Still a spare tire and arm fat at 60.
It’s a fact that male doctors want to deny or not even address.
Yep! Going thru all this at 45 and I can still eat a low-carb diet and not lose or tone up like I did before!
@@insertmyidentityhere more complex carbs and ample resistance/strength training should address that well!
@@FiberFairy22 And resistance training is great for our bones. We want to stage off Osteoporosis/Osteopenia!!!
Yes totally agree !!! And there are almost none of this su jet addressed specially by women doctors that can speak also for experience . Some things can’t be resolved just by theories or studies ,it is just like having a child , someone can have a written encyclopedia about it, but living it is another thing .
The same with menopause and weight .
Being a baller dancer , and now also playing padel 5 days/6 days a week , and still training , being pescatarian since 5 years ago , also fasting , meditating ,and still having a glass of wine 🍷 and living , menopause makes things different and the body you have know all you life is like another one 🙃
Weight gain after menopause is not a fact. It varies for every woman.
So I enjoyed your podcast. I feel like we have the FDA that doesn't do anything in certain regards to help Americans. Example: My girlfriend can eat seafood in her home country, truly fresh, but she can't eat seafood in the USA. Assuming preservatives.
It isn't fresh as fresh as it should be. Why can't places just freeze it naturally. I went into a store to try and find Salmon without red dye in it in USA. I can't find it.
The contamination of food is nuts. How is our FDA not pulling foods that have alternative sugars and are causing cancer and kidney failure. What do people do for food allergies, nuts, dairy, on special diets due to processing of foods. FDA, doctors, and government would not be making money if people were healthy. Crazy if you think about it?.
Yes, you can find videos about the exact topic of why are corporations selling so many sugar and carbohydrate foods knowing the implications of diabetes, inflammation, etc. Yes, it is all about money. "They Want You Sick" is one of these videos.
Why isn’t the FDA robust in protecting us? You can thank Ronald Reagan for decimating their regulatory powers and the Citizens United decision for allowing corporations to own our elected officials who keep the FDA from protecting us (because that would limit corporate profits).
Depending on where you live in the U.S determines what kind of food is in grocery stores. Most fish comes into a meat department frozen. They thaw it out and then put it out for you to buy. I grew up in Alaska in the 60's and 70's and remember watching the Salmon runs in the lakes and creeks. That is the fish you want to eat.
Any advice for someone who is coping with kidney problems? Thank you!

@DrRanganChatterjee - what a great episode. I've one specific question regarding polyphenol bioactives in tea specfiically. In this interview as well as the previous with Dr. Li it was mentioned that adding cow's milk to black (or other) teas binds with the caesins found in the milk-fat and reduces their bioavailability significantly. My QUESTION is if this also applies to GOAT'S MILK. I ask because each time Dr. Li has very specifically stated "cow's milk" and also because the fat and casein structure in goat's milk differs quite a bit from cow's milk (much more digestible and naturally homogenized as a result). Would love to know if there is any specific research on this, particularly since it was also mentioned that nut milks do have this bioactive reduction effect when added to teas. Thanks so very much.
I grew up as a "Milkaholic".
I will be 80 years old next month, and I crave milk. . .cold milk is the only drink that really quenches my thirst.
BUT. . for the last 25 years I ONLY drink Goat's Milk.
It IS more fattening, but it is so settling to my stomach, and satisfying to my hunger.
I'm doing OK, because at the age of 80, I am not on a single prescription medication.
So, I hope your question gets answered.

Great discussion on fat, I learned a lot!! ❓❓❓I have heard that fat releases estrogen too, so does that mean it is okay for post menopause women to have a little bit of fat on them, since the estrogen can help keep bones healthy amongst other things? Just wondering. (As long as foods are derived from healthy plant sources, like avocado, nuts, seeds, tofu and olives and also complex carbs, fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains and tubers).

It would be nice to eat the food my grand parents ate. Modern food, particularly the fresh food in shops is nutrient poor compared to the food we grew in the garden and seasonal food we got from the local market in the 50s. So glad you are here, Dr Chatterjee. I find Dr. Li talks and talks and says very little, until you break in and either ask a question, or say "In other words..." I'm an hour into this podcast and have no idea what foods he is promoting.
I find something very frustrating in these kinds of talks regarding artificial sweeteners. Most experts lump them all together and don't talk about the effects of the different kinds. There is a big difference between aspartame and stevia, or monk fruit, and what about erythritol?
What about soft drinks sweetened with stevia, such as zevia?
Sleep? I've never slept so well & woken up so awake than after being on the carnivore diet. I wake up full still, after filling up on meat the night before. I'm not usually starting to get hungry until about 4pm. One meal a day & I'm nearly ALWAYS in ketosis, & gradually burning away my stored fat, that so easily got stored there in the first place.
Nowdays, I try to let nothing sweet pass my lips, as a rule. If I do, the sugar addiction comes back.

@ 4:40 ... they talk about bread... There are MANY different kinds of bread
Bread can be made of many different grains, wheat, spelt, rye, triticale, oats, and combinations of them..
There are different kinds of fermentations and different ways of baking...
There are thousands of wheat varieties...
One can even make bread with germinated wheat seeds, then make a paste out of it and let it dry in the sun, which is the raw kind of bread.
When I lived in Germany I would find many different kinds of bread in any bakery, 90% of them were made with whole grains, mostly made from wheat, rye, and combinations of them. The best bread for me was those made with spelt.
Germans take their bread *seriously*! (To their credit/benefit) Though I experienced many cool things while visiting, the one I spoke about most upon returning home to the US really might have been the bread.
What do you think about erythrotol & monk fruit extract?
Please allow me to butt-in to your conversation. Based on information I've gleamed I would say that these sweeteners may be a little better than some others, but sweeteners of all sorts are detrimental to our bodies. Aren't these plant derived sweeteners? Aren't corn, sugar beet, and sugar cane plants too? I suggest you use monk fruit extract sparingly until you can ween yourself from all sweeteners except what you get from a piece of fruit or a spoonful of honey occasionally. Trust me, sweeteners numb your taste buds. Foods taste so much better when you give up diet drinks and artificial sweeteners of all kinds.

I read to eat whole that then it doesn't over load us with the sugar part of fruits ,? And our microbiom needs the roughage it's not all as easy to under stand how to balance and I have to try not to over eat
Or drink fruits

So, bottom line, he doesn't want to tell us which foods burn fat...how stingy !🙄
He gives many foods plus the mechanism so u can look up other foods with the same components.
He wants to sell his books
Yes, I waited thru the whole podcast about what foods ?
I think it might be the food otherwise known as Exercise. 😆
Li never talks about exercise or cutting carbs which is why so many foodies love him. Who doesn't know about artificial sweeteners and processed foods being "bad." Turmeric... Capsaicin...etc
Yada, yada....did he ever ANSWER???
So moringa is good for fungal probs is it easy to get ,,,where do we get it also turmeric also ,so,fresh or tablet form its not easy to see how much you use i use garlic ginger,,,,
Never eat American-style bread, I always eat European-style bread without any sugar.
You should invite Bryan Johnson in your show
It's funny how you basically repeat your guest's answer after he's answered and ask him to agree or disagree around 32:45 in.

Is there a low carb rice, like wild rice perhaps?
I love rice but trying to eat less and pasta as combating cancer so I don't feed it ,,,,
My Dr. Told me if you have to drink a soda then drink a regular 1 not diet. I drink plenty water w lemon and try very hard to break the Mt. DEW habit. ❤
I wish you the very best. Mt. Dew is one of the worst soda for sugar and addiction. If you can drink just water and unsweet tea for one month your body can break the addiction. The easiest way to break any addiction is to not have the substance in the house. If you can make it hard to get to, it’s easier to say No to. I promised myself that if I wanted junk food,I would WALK the half mile to the corner store. Guess how often that seemed like a good idea?!😂 Billy, a random stranger on the internet really is rooting for you. Good luck, dude.
Monk fruit and stevia?
Can anyone recommend an accurate CGM watch???
So is the cheap bread good or bad?
I understand that juice, soda, and most breads are unhealthy, but there’s not sufficient data to support the notion that artificial = bad. I used to avoid anything artificial until I learned that there isn’t significant data suggesting that processed foods are inherently bad. Sugar and other high glycemic carbs are bad but why is artificial flavoring?
I am no doctor, but Anthony Williams says artificial flavors may be one of the causes of autoimmune diseases.
@@katjawascher2780 yes but a lot of people say it and I don’t know what hard data supports that claim
I just don't understand how triggering the beta adrenergic receptor can activate the brown fat and make you loose visceral fat. Stress in every form rather seems to make me gain fat, and especially around the midsection.
