A great tip I got off the canal forums is to keep a pack of cheap nappies on board.. not for the shock of finding the leak 🤣 but they do a blinding job mopping up when you don’t have a vac to hand. I use them to get the last bits of water out the bilge that the pump doesn’t suck up. 👌
ahhh the old nappy trick...we have been told this....and we do actually have some, we have yet to use them though, how exciting haha yes that's rights I completely forgot that you should use them in. the engine bay thank you
Hi Becca Chris,so glad you are back Becca now you can get some work done lol so you still have water coming in it’s so hard to find a leak in a boat you never know wear it comes in ,when are you having the boat lifted out ,Chris a bow thruster is just a electric motor with a propeller fix to the shaft of the motor when you switch it on to go to port the prop spins one way when you go to starboard the prop spins the other way I hope you can understand that Chris please never try to take the bow thruster out of the tube while it’s in the water because the tube is always in the water,I’m so pleased you have found the leek ,yes Chris it is the only way to get the wood out of the hole cutter is what you are doing, well it looks like you are having fun good job Becca is her you and Maverick could not find the leek but Becca did good old Becca she think about the problem then dose her best to but it right ,well till next time take care keep safe, John 🌹👀💪🛠🛠🪓🪓💕😂🥵🧐🥵😡🤬
we really can start getting some work done now haha its so hard to try and find these leaks, unfortunately the water is all around us and under us....and guess what...it comes from the sky too....were absolutely surrounded. haha thank you John always lovely to hear your thoughts :)
Good to see Becca back on the boat. Glad that you're getting to the bottom of the leak issue. Perhaps different coloured food dye for different areas you're testing for leaks and expanding foam for filling the hole in the bulkhead?
were slowly getting there, what a great idea thanks Gary
Man A step at A time. & Yes we are watching, you're not to alone.
Keep up the Good work.
thank you :)
I soooo look forward to your vlogs - glad Becca is feeling better, how’s the doggy? Just remember how sweet it’s going to feel setting off on your adventure and how rich your D.I.Y skillage will be!! X
aww bless you thanks so much for your support, hopefully once we've settled in a bit better the vlogs will come more frequent , unfortunately Cooper (the dog) has passed away to doggy heaven :( its been a hard few month for Becca bless here but she's getting there, thank you Anita
@@TheNomadicCrobot I am so so sorry to hear about Cooper, pass on my heart felt love to Becca ❤️
I admire how you guys always stay positive even when things don't work out. Thank you for that, its always nice to see we should all stay positive its contagious and helps others who are going through things. Definitely connected with you when you said the viewers are what keeps you going and the positive comments. I wouldn't even know where to begin with a leak it's always interesting seeing how you go about it. #Proglove 😂
Are y’all having a baby
you have to smile or you'll cry, plus we do have a fantastic little adventure ahead of us, so the good is all coming, we just need to stay patent , oh amazing will have to leak out your vlogs , sorry were so busy its hard to keep up to date
On food dyes the powdered bright colour dye for icing (that's icing for cakes) might make it easier to see in the water.
Please wear protection for your ears too! Hearing aids suck, it just isn't worth not wearing protection when you are younger!
Thanks Glen , your not wrong it’s so easy to forget health and safety when your stuck in the rusty moment
Happy to see Becca back and hope she is feeling much better. Hope you have figured the leak out by now and on the way being done with that. A paddle blade would make drilling the holes much easier to me. Enjoy watching the process see ya next time. Susan
thanks Susan were so excited to have her back, hopefully the leak is sorted, then onto the next thing haha
Another nice vlog. Down to earth gettin on with stuff....love will find a way 😊
Thanks for following our adventure 😀
So pleased to see Becks back and so pleased you may be on top of the leak issue. Your perseverance and patience has paid off. Also love that you keep thr videos real, it's how we can all learn more instead of from something polished and pro. It's how you arrive at solutions that I like. Keep it real guys, best wishes from Germany
yay for Bex, aww thank you...we really appreciate your lovely worlds 😊 hi from England
Hi, I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well Becks. Take care hopefully you feel good as new soon. Sending positive vibes and hoping you can only see the good. Stay positive you got this 🤗
Thank you so much Penney ❤️
Another great video guys, great Becca is back to help ( thank god lol ) Really pleased the leak has been found and cant wait for the next video !!!!
thank god she's back
@@TheNomadicCrobot to be fair your both doing brill mate 😊 the videos are so addictive can’t wait for the next
Hi guys welcome back Becks. Do hope you have found the leak. I’m sure it’s a bit of a nightmare. We are all with you on your journey just a shame we can’t help but keep going your doing a great job. Take care. I
Thank you Caroline, hopefully soon, were getting closer, thanks so much for sticking with us
Get well Becca and guys keep positive you will get there I know
Thank you so much :)
for 'piddly little puddles' try putting down some nappies- they'll suck up any small amounts of moisture thats too small for the blige pump.
thank you for raw solid advice :)
Glad to see Beccy back. That water tank of yours looks a bit iffy inside. Ever thought of using a bladder inside that tank? Like they use in some aircraft's fuel tanks? Keep smilin' both, it's your cheery disposition and your ability to laugh at problems that attracts (me anyway) to your channel.
the water tank is awful, I was actually thinking of getting it lined or just completely re done, thanks so much for your kind words :)
Good to have you back Folks, missed the vlogs
thanks Bill, so busy these months, happy to still be able to get a few out :)
Hi Chris, and a BIG welcome back to Becca, hope your feeling a lot better now. Guys, I like your food die into the water, great idea. You seem to have solved the water leakage problem (fingers crossed), well done to the both of you. Great to see the Maverick, if only but briefly. Really enjoy your style of Vlogs. Have a great week. Take care.
we got the idea from many comments that kept asking, hopefully it will clear some bits up, thanks so much for your kind words, juggling the boat and vlogs is a mission but were managing to get them out many thanks :)
keep going mate the maverick will be back i do miss the mutt and the pretty bird that has the tools
We’re so happy to have Becca back, we can finally start getting so real work done 😂😅
Yay new crobot video 🤘🏻😃🤘🏻
yay thanks Shane
Great video as usual. Glad you're getting on top of the leak situation. ☺☺
Thank you Michael, were getting there :)
Thanks for keeping on putting out your videos, I very much enjoy your humour. A rubber door mat could temporarily keep out the rain....rubber gloves, big sponge and a bucket make getting water out of bulges straight forward..... Get them nearly dry then finish of with an old towel or rag. A forstner drill bit or big flat paddle type drill bit is much quicker for lots of big holes in ply wood but more messy perhaps..... Good luck with it all
aww thank you for your lovely words, yes that's not a bad shout at all, thanks again
Nice to see you back Bec.
Absolutely thanks
Well done on the investigative work! Hope Becca is feeling better!
thanks you Jayne...quite the Sherlock now
Doing well. Hope leaks sorted for u now. Bless you. Best wishes.
Thank you Best wishes
You're getting there, slowly but surely, we are all cheering you on 😁 ww pick our boat up this weekend so might see you out and about this summer :)
not long now we hope, hope to see you on the rivers and canals , good luck with your adventure, hope it all goes a bit more smoother than ours :)
Nice to see Becks back on board 😀 with a hole saw drill a small hole all the way through then make a start on one side turn the board over and finish the hole's off making the plug only stick out half the way....
And get some big boy metal filler from Screwfix very good for flexible holes like where the pipe goes through the bulkhead
Oh amazing thank you
Yay she’s back, I never thought of that would have been much easier thank you
Good luck with the leaks, we were in Camden a few weeks ago and walked into the Camden Diner for something to eat. I looked over and you guys we’re sitting having a meal. First time we had been to London for 2 years lovely to get back after the covid nightmare.
Oh amazing haha yes we had a day out in London, we both love London, not the best burger, but a great chance to check out the Camden locks, you should have come said hi 👋
Hi Guys
Good to see you both back On the boat we missed your vlogs 👍 keep going Forward guys it will come right I’m the end.ps hope Becks is feeling better
Mark tray 😎
awww thank you, were trying very hard to juggle time to get them done and work on the boat too, there both equally important to us, will get there soon, summer cruising is essential
Glad you’re back bex he’s been lost with out you !
thank god she's back
Best thing with those stuck bolts in the deck drill the heads off. Nice to see Chris grab the boat by the gunnal and get stuck in. We'll done. A small tarp over the bow deck will help temporarily
you may be right, my DIY skills are moving on.....slowly
Wow guys, its uphill all the way with you and youre still smiling. Temporary (!) bung for awkward space filling... squirty expanding foam. Something like Soudal from the DIY shed.
I did mention it as a quick fit....luckly we got Beccas dad to have a go :)
I’ve learnt something with that drill hole borer thingy 😂
haha thanks Chris :)
When using a hole saw for a job like this cut ALL the holes about 3/4 the way through from one side turn the board over and finish off the cuts, this way you’ll have 3/4’s of the plug sticking out of the saw and hole without breakout.
thanks, it did seam like a long old job haha
At least you're getting closer to a solution. Becks is back with her common sense approach. Well done DIY man for getting stuck. Cheers rippers.
slowly....is this what's boat life is like all the time??? im sure it must get easier??? cheers Will
@@TheNomadicCrobot no it doesn't. Always something going wrong. If it's not the boat it's getting stuck in locks, shallow canals. I've just finished the Huddersfield canal. I'm never going back to that crap canal. Ha ha Once you find the leak you can relax and crack on with the fit out. Then get cruising.
Those hand held pumps are brilliant,I’ve got one on my boat, very useful
they really are...I can't stop buying them haha
Get an impact driver from Halford, as you hit with a hammer the screwdriver undoes stuck screws
Yea we did try one… but I still failed ha
@@TheNomadicCrobot It might damage the paint, but you could try applying heat to the screws, use to see a farmer undo screws with a blowtorch, but if this fails may have to drill it out the screws and re-tap with fresh
Keep going cruiser soon😁
soon definitely
Good to you back Becks . Have you thought of putting a tarpaulin over the bow deck just a temporary fix .. keep the the work your get there
we are currently getting a quote on covers...we really should be covering theses areas, thanks Neil
Used to use potassium permanganate to look for leaks, although edible food dye is probably better for drinking water, it is very good if you can see the water as you will see the dye moving toward the leak.
oh how interesting thank you
@@TheNomadicCrobot Also some epoxy putty for that joint, best of the temporary fixes I have ever used, might work for that inspection hatch, evo stick do a version for metal - should be on Amazon for under a tenner.
Drill out the screws with just the next size bit, retap the hole, buy size screw needed, buy correct gasket, Wha-La Fixed.
ill remember that next time thanks
Trial and error guys. Keep ya heads up
thank you Simon
Forgot to say, when we had wooden boats, we always used to say of bilge-water "just enough to keep her sweet"! Not something to worry about if you have auto-bilge pumps, and they've been around for many, many years.
yes we do want to get a automatic badge pump thanks :)
Dewalt baby!!
you know that haha
Good to see you both back. That there boat is going to be lovey, all your hard work will be worth it when your sitting with your feet up on the cut, sipping your gin xxx Can't wait ti see your kitchen xxx
Thank you, it really will all be worth very very soon fingers crossed xxx
Hopefully you can sort it all out..... have you found any more rust !!!....best wishes..Tom.
the rust is never ending haha
@@TheNomadicCrobot who built your boat..???...fiat...ha ha.....
I really don't want to be "that guy", but I have to say how alarmed I am at the state of your potable water tank, if. that's what the water is indeed used for. Drinking water should be stored in inert tanks, or at least have a lining or coating to keep it sanitary and safe. A filter is also a good idea if the tank has a wide-open access point where contaminants can easily find their way in. This includes rainwater, which can carry all number of dangerous waterborune pathogens. Good luck with the boat, and looking forward to future updates!
no your absolutely right, our water tank is rusty as hell and needs a complete refit really, if not a new lining plus the pipes will need to be looked at too, thanks for your comment and kind advice :)
You can get drain dye from screwfix which would work a lot better than food dye, but obviously more expensive. and gutter sealant might be good to bodge the leaky hatch.
Oh amazing thank you
The four screws need a screwdriver w/ blade the SAME SIZE as the slot on the screw head then use anti-seize on threads before install - A gasket can be made w/ silicone calk by lightly greasing one surface then sitting the plate on w/ little pressure until the silicone hardens then tighten screws.
yes that's absolutely right, we have now managed to get Beccas dad to undo it lucky, thanks for your great advice :)
It should come with a spring that fits into the cutter around the drill and when you have finished drilling the hole the spring pushes the round pieces out so you don’t need to dig it out. Easy
oh ok....thats what I need to find then haha
Oh yes the boating community is generally a friendly helpful one what with us all being in the Same boat(so to speak)
such a great community and so happy to be part of it
Speaking of which I’ve got to go to my boat soon to display my new river license and to give my boat a clean with my jet wash so I’ll be in touch around when I’m going to the boat in fb messenger to sort getting the radios and the mini gps to you 👍🏻
Plan b get a boat bilge pump with the float switch on ,,,as water gets high it automatically empties
yes thats something we really need to do thank you
Trick with the holes is don’t use a circular saw bit, use a normal large wood bit and do loads of holes?!?!
Interesting thank you
Becs still does not look 100%, I hope she feels better!!!!!
She’s still not 100% but managed to pull it together for us, thanks Gregg
May all your leaks be small ones :)
pleaseeeee
YOU CAN SEE THE WATER IS GETTING IN FROM THE TOP AROUND THAT SMALL PLATE .
yes we thought so too
Yay I was right. If that is the only leak them its probably the best result you could get. Might have to drill the screw out and retap
Hopefully fingers crossed, seams such a simple task now, I would t be surprised if it wasn’t but it’s a great start, thanks for your contribution
Do narrow boats have bilge pumps?
Yes we do ours is manual so we do need to try and Install a few automatic ones really 😀
A former roommate was some organizer in the Fairbanks Alaska "Red Green Regatta" - Red Green is a Canadian show where he basically fixes everything with duct tape... so all the boats in the "Red Green Regatta" are basically made with duct tape...
oh how cool, watch this space duck tape is our new best friend
Just to add my bit, I am surprised MDF is used anywhere on a boat. It absorbs dampness and water and will start to swell. For a bed base, slats of timber with gaps in between would be my choice. I'm not an expert, just now hate mdf after what I have seen what can happen to it in a house even. I don't have a boat. Loving your entertaining presentation of learning DIY. We all started somewhere.
yes we wouldn't use MDF had we not already had it, horrible bloody stuff, thanks so much for your lovely words
you can get solid wood bed slats from Ikea, very cheap. Ditch the mdf it will turn into a giant sponge.
How about just running a hose over that area & see if water is coming in from above.
great idea, thank you
Get some wd40 on those screw heads and around them as well. Let it soak. Try silcone seal as well
Thanks for the advise, we’ve managed to get in now… we’ll Becca’s dad did haha 😂
Weld a new hatch that seals properly
This would be very very tempting
The puzzle is how you can walk and talk without falling down 🤦🏼♀️
How rude 😛 haha
Dewalt for the win in my opinion. You just need bigger batteries my friend....
watch this space haha
👍👌🇨🇦❤
I’m gonna have to have a word with that water, tell it to stick to being on the outside of the boats,I’m sure it will take notice
the water oblates us...but we shall not be defeated haha
Can you dye the water to find out if it gets to back of boat
Yes I think that’s probably the next step once with finished with the water tank cheers
Sorry said that before seeing you do it at the end 🤣🤣🤣
I had a concept of having a bow thruster control (motorcycle throttle grip) on the tiller (also provide a variable assist when turning).
The trouble is, that hatch may have been ok prior to you gouging at it? ;-)
That would be a far better bow thruster idea, we’ve heard not many people really use them, and we were ok in fairness with our 60foot boat, saying that I’m sure it would have been very useful, I no, we found that out afterwards ha
I read somewhere that a 57 foot boat is a nearly perfect length, so a 60 footer shouldn't be much more difficult without a bow thruster, but beyond that, just having one to help in docking (countering wind, water outlets, etc...) would be good.
Is your Bilge-Pump working? ... Is it Automatic ?? .... If you Moor a boat facing Downstream on a River - the chances of your boat SINKING are pretty HIGH! - As water gets IN! - Where it should be getting OUT!! ..... 🤨🤔
yes it is working, its not automatic unfortunately, but we are looking to get one, no we don't want to sink, thanks Peter
Sorry. I think you are wrong! You say that I won't believe where the leak was. But I do believe you! Anyway; glad to see Becca back again
haha at this point we a re surrounded by leaks....how fun
@@TheNomadicCrobot you better hire a spy....
Wonderfully boring show. ;) Always good to see you working on getting your boat out.
were getting massively bored of our leaks too... welcome to boat life haha
So funny 22:44.
I will get there … eventually haha
Fingers crossed, no more water under the floor........
please nooooo more water
Would a dye have helped quicker?
absolutely, seams like a great strategy
You should have done the leak test before you poked the seal around. You may have just found the leak you just created.
I noooo....I just forgot ...doh
DIY destroy it yourself
Spot on love it haaa
In the short time I have been watching your vids, I have learnt 2 things... 1, DIY is simply not your thing.... Your brother got your half of those skills i am afraid. Secondly, I am never ever going to own or live on a boat hahahahahahaha
I am absolutely useless at DIY.... I make a cracking cuppa soup
