Have you gone mad, you just showed a clip where you swung a power tool round and round by its cable, wonderful demonstration of how not to treat power tools, I cannot watch any more!
Sorry Pete, it seams to be the only logical way to remove the edge of the hatch efficiently
Sorry Pete, it seams to be the only logical way to remove the edge of the hatch efficiently
From what I could tell Chris just swung the cord around with the wall plug on the end. I may have missed some other flagrant swinging but I didn't notice. But if not the plug isn't heavy enough to wreck the cord.
Actually I just watched episode #106 and did notice some excessive tool swinging. The Crobot's out of control! đ
One of, if not the best disaster channels on U tube.
Every episode something has gone wrong.
Look on the bright side one day something has to go right
Take great care both
Keep safe warm dry and virus free both.
Haha!! Least we're winning at that one!! đ
Oh no!! Chris maybe a fairy/ elf pirate stole the plank. You never give up which is great, things can only get better.
Beks the copper taps look amazing. đ
Thank you Sheila...that's horribleittle fairy's I'm going to have to keep an eye on that haha
I'm one of those time served carpenters of 35 years from around the world and it's painful to watch Chris đ€Ș
hahaaaa I can only imagine, sorry buddy
Good fun though
Poor Chris !! He does well as a complete novice I think . X
I canât nail two pieces of wood together so truly feel for you brother đ€
Your not alone Iâm also a retired carpenter and diy always makes me smile
But you canât fault the enthusiasm
Hi Becca Chris. Another exciting Vlog. Love the way Becca was so calm when she returned to the boat after seeing the hatches. Such a super-kool young woman. I don't understand , on the hatches, why Expert Chris did not drill thru the metal into the wood, surely this would have been a much better and firm and tight solution. Sorry you were having issues with the hatches again Chris. Hope you find the missing link, oh" I mean, the missing piece of wood. Becca your kitchen sink pipes are looking fantastic. Excellent Vlog, so well edited as always. Take Care both.
Becca was great about it, any one else would have tossed me in the river haha, yes I'm bot sure expert chris is an expert on hatches,he's been great with the hole on the roof, the wood seams to be long gone unfortunately, thanks so much take care đ
Itâs fine! Itâs fine! Wadda ya mean itâs fine! Was so looking forward to Becks coming back and unleash a chaotic Crobot Wombat whoopingâŠ.đđđ
she kept it together well bless her haaa
@@TheNomadicCrobot can we have a vid of this woodland hot tub carry on? Please please pleaseâŠâŠ purely scientific research of course.
Its actually good they dont fit as they are.... that way you can add a small spacer behind the lock to push it out a bit and it can make a better seal.... fun as always, thanks for the laughs!! Rob
Thanks Rob, I think a spacer may be the way to go, but the wood is catching too a bit, there's my job for this week haha
Take 8 bolts, weld the bolts to the inside of the steel, drill holes in the wood where the bolts go through, slide the wood over them then pin in place with some nuts. Finally use dowels to cover the nuts
Thanks Dirpitz, this would be the best way to do things I think. Many thanks for your suggestion đ
@@TheNomadicCrobot you'd need a router but to make the space for the bolt so that once the dowel is inside it's flush with the wood then just sand it.
Dirpitz Stronk with the Mind
I absolutely love your tenacious spirits! You just keep going and donât give up! Youâre both so committed to getting things right and being happy with the end product! Iâd have given up ages ago! Lol Good on you for being so determined ! đđ»đ
Take care lovely people! đđ»x
Thank so much for your lovely comment, we a re committed but I have had my moments when. its gotten to much, its all learning, we defiantly try and enjoy it and make the most of it, take care :)
Hello Chris just wanted to say I've loved watching yourself and Beck's learning they ways of the boat. I myself went through the same things with my boat. Im on the west coast of Canada so we share a lot of the same weather. Rain rain and then more rain in the winter. With the odd snow. For the first six months to a year my life was spent back and fourth between the boat and the hardware store. I was thinking for all the times you head down to the Block & Quayle you should talk to them about sponsorship. That's alot of free advertising for them and your starting to reach quite a few subscribers. I only wish I had done a vlog during my Reno's. Show them a few episodes with the store In them and you guys shopping and Bob's your uncle. Anyways, big fan. Hello from Canada.
oh amazing, what an adventure it sounds like you had, your not wrong the amount of publicity we have given many of these shops. its never to late to start a vlog, we just chose to try and do it from the start, hi from the uk and have a great Christmas
Awww my enough to drive you mad Christ u get there n taps looking nice n shiny Becks welcome bk tc both the oldies âïžđ đŒđ€¶đ»đ
thanks guys, we will get there in the end, a few weeks of madness, im sure it will die down haha
Looking back, when all is done, you come to see you build the boat twice.
Thats called learning, the next one will go much better and faster. Just have fun allong the ride!
exactly thanks for your motivation, its all learning
Glad to see Becs is back!
haha before I sink it
Call the Maverick!!!! âïž đ đ± Great to see you with the power tool Chris. Becca the pipes look great. Hope the ridgie edgie thing is at B&Q! Good luck. đđ€ Kathy
I'm starting to loose Hope in the maverick ever returning to do work on the boat haha...he was ment to come up a few weeks back but never did,he's so busy bless him...maybe i just need to push a bit harder haha thank you take care
@@TheNomadicCrobot Dear Maverick, please come and help the Crobots to stay warm, and dry this winter! Here in the US it is also extremely hard to get tradespeople to come as they are short staffed and overworked. Hang in there you two! đđ€ Kathy
07:04 Chocolate covered bagels my favourite đ
Mmm we've got some choccy spread too đ
I know it's a bit late now but if you were drilling hole's in the steel doors you might have been better doing countersinks and screwing from the outside in. Then you could leave screwheads visible for future access but repaint the whole door exteriors rather than mucking about colour matching odd spots
yes we wanted to actually and now looking back probably should have done, I didnt want to start counter sinking until Bex was made aware of it as at the time it seamed like more of a job, expert chris did actually want to do it this way, so it ended up being a panicy mess
Think you will have to get becs to fix the shutters. You could sit and watch with a cup of tea and biscuits.
that is not a bad shout at all....ill do the biscuit run haha
@@TheNomadicCrobot jammie dodgers will help you through the stress times
Chrissy Crobot to the rescue! If you want a job well done, or done a few times, heâs your man! At least your hearts in there. đ 12:34
the heart is there...the skills just sadly aren't haha
maybe the screws you put on the inside are pushing the wood away? Maybe try opening and closing the hatches loads of times, then you can see wear marks where its catching
cheers dude, yes we can see some marks, so they probably just need a little trim...the hatches seam to have it in for everyone haha
Such is life....always something. Your making progress tho. Faucet looking lovely and hatches with hardware on looking smart. You'll get it sorted Chris. Someday you'll look back on it and laugh. Best wishes, Deb
there really is, it never ends haha, were getting there slowly, ill have these hatches done by next week, it needs to get done, I was actually joking with Bex saying "could you imagine if we looked back and said those were the best days of our lives" haha take care
Bloody cliffhanger Chris !!! How could you!??? Lol love you guys. See you on the next one xx
Haha! Thanks Mandy! See you there! x
I think Expert Chris nicked yer bit of wood to use as a Bonnet-Prop for his truck ;-)
I wouldn't be surprised
Not so sure expert Chris has fitted many side hatches before willing but not perhaps his speciality in life much better with a hardwood liner door made to fit screwed from the outside in countersunk holes in the steel to fill over and bonded on as well belts and braces! And form a rebate with the trim work for the doors to close into to make a nice solid weatherproof solution, Checked out the vlogs a few months back when I did Holly the Cafe Boats side hatches if you want a bit more clarity those brass bolts are not very strong Yale does a slimline locking sliding bolt that you can use top and bottom and very secure but you need a good quality liner installation to fasten them onto the bolts only as strong as what it's fastened to! think about how easy it would be to jam a bar in the cloaking strip outside and give it some jip! Always enjoy the vlogs though the humour is top notch đ
He's actually a welder, but has worked on boats, I think our biggest problem was that me and Becca had disagreed on many occasions that drilling through the steel wouldn't be the best idea, so we glued them to avoid that, unfortunately they weren't going to lock again with this method so were forced to act quickly, oh amazing they have a great channel, expert chris did actually say about counter sinking nuts and bolts and the time but again without being able to confirm with Becca I didn't want to take more out of the hatch than necessary at the time, one big nightmare really, iv often thought they would be very easy for someone to break into, ill take a look at there video many thanks for the advice :)
Stick a spacer behind each lockâŠâŠâŠ.simple
That's a good idea, I will have to trip the wood though as a few of them just aren't sitting in exactly how we were hoping ,thanks đ
Aarrggghhh, please sort the hatch's out. I can only imagine what your levels of frustration are, mine are extreme đ€Łđ€Ł. Keep at it, you will get there.
I know, its been a year and a half know of this nonsense haha its mad, will get there cheers
Make a spacer Togo behind hatch locks
You can thank me with a tub of chocolates đ€Ł
thank you chocolates in the mail haha yes the spacer idea is one me and Bex have been talking about, though the wood is still catching in a few areas
I'm with WaterLily, i'd use a spacer behind your bolts. I'd try using metal too.
yes I think the spacer idea is one were going to have to follow up, the wood is still catching though, metal...thats something I hadn't thought off, thanks Terry for you advice, always so helpful :)
I have shiny tap envy đ€©
There awesome aren't they, becca has done amazing
Another great video guys. Glad Becca didn't throw you in the canal on her return, haha. Hope you've found that wooden window trim, although it would be pretty easy to make a new one with a router đ. See you on the next one đđ
cheers dude, a router you say...very interesting thanks for the advice, we cant find one similar anywhere so are looking at these bull nose ones instead , take care
I bought a narrow boat without hatches but I wanted one with hatches. I am ok with it now.
do you wanna swap??haha
Dont worry about the bagels Becs yours looked ok lol, although Chris's looked a bit caramelised
Haha! I gave Chris the best ones!! đđđ
bless you
Another cliff hanger. LOL do we find the piece of timber???? Funny as, thanks heaps guys. Becc those tap pipes look brilliant. Iâm so loving your vlogs. Itâs just started pouring here, so heavy itâs turned the sensor security lights on. wonderful itâs been so stinking mongrel hot. So enjoyed your vlog. Take care guys and see you soon. đ
any excuse for a cliff hanger haha sorry Pauline, the tapes a re amazing, I was trying to keep up with my hatches but n chance at this rate, thanks for watching our disastrous adventure haha, keep warm take care
Keep going guys!! Feeling your pain! Hope you find the edgy ridged wooden side peice đ it's going to be amazing when it's all done đ€©
Cheers duuudes, we will get there eventually, so jealous of your amazing travels..can't wait to join you one day đ
You guys always bring a smile to my face. đKeep working your thing. đ Your payoff is on the way.
That's great Chris thanks so much for enjoying the vlogs,we couldn't do it with out the support đ
The suspense đŹ
Wood always expands to fill the space, but it's nice so it always goes the extra few mm more than needed.
it just seams to have happened over night...maybe they absorbed lots of rain haha thanks
Finally remembered to Sub after watching several vids over the last year..Nice video as ever :)
thanks for the sub and enjoying the chaos :)
@@TheNomadicCrobot It's all helpful, in the next year or two I hope to get my own Narrowboat so I'm sure there will be as much chaos at mine too haha
Chris says you can't see anything & no dots then has to say : you can't believe your lying eyes
I think she's to kind sometimes haha
We're laughing WITH you--really!
Really?? Haha
Iâm sure youâve sorted them out by the time the video goes live, but can you not put a thin piece of wood packer or spacer behind the lock to save chopping chunks out of the hatch or hull?
haha I haven't actually but yes a spacer is something weve been looking to use though some of the wood definitely needs to be cut back a tad, thanks for your tip :)
Have you thought about fitting double glazing in the hatch instead. My friend has a new hatch with double glazing looks lovely
I think I would but I think Becca prefers the more traditional style, they would probably be far safer , thanks for your advice Dan
@@TheNomadicCrobot I have the same sort of hatch as you on my widebeam but haven't actually looked at the way it's fitted all I know is it is solid wood
Put some washers behind latch that wont lock
Thanks I think this may be a good idea!
Lovely work need the titan out to clean up đ
unfortunately the titan is in hibernation ...who knows what he would be capable of if awoken
Any opportunity to break that bad boy out! Makes hoovering a pleasure! đ
Nooo can't let him hibernate never know what he'll be like after hibernation need to be very careful lol
You have had so many people giving you advice. You have never repeated anything that any of the experts have said about the metal expanding and contracting with the temperature changes. I think this is why the experts are saying DON'T screw the wood to the metal. If you want to you will need to make holes bigger than the screws or if gluing you need a special glue to allow for movement.
YOU HAVE TO ALLOW FOR EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION with temperature changes.
Hi Raymond, the problem is everyone thinks there an expert when it comes to narrowboats, we took our advice from a boating yard who actually fitted the hatches and they told us it was more than likely the wood, turns out its partly the wood and partly the steel, your right the have both expanded and bent over time, the screwing technique wasn't actually something I wanted to do I would have nut and bolted them the same way they were originally done, but we were caught in a dilemma with only minutes before the "glue" drys again, thanks for your comment , sorry if it qas painful to watch
@@TheNomadicCrobot When your hatch locks won't use narrow/thin washers to push it from the wood which will clear the metal framing
yes I think a spacer is probably what we will have to use on a few, thanks Raymond
Your doing wonderful. Hope you find the frame piece. Do you think the whole face of the panels need sanding? Its not like the latching lock is near.
one thing after another, thats the problem when there's so much wood everywhere,it seams to be the side, but we may add a spacer behind a few of the locks to, thanks for your message Mary
Could you not have just bought some new hatch doors? Canât help but wonder how other boaters manage đ€·ââïž. Anyway, thanks, always enjoy y your videos đ
thanks for your question, I suppose we could have done but were trying to save on expenses and I imagine it would be quite pricey, plus our hatches won't just come off that easy so it would probably be quite a job, Thanks Christine
@@TheNomadicCrobot I'm glad you answered that because I was wondering the same thing!
At last..the plan you hatched has hatched and now it's happened at last. Hatches that hatch. Ahh what am I talking about...Ta Ra rippers.
im getting nightmares with these hatches haha... I will crack them eventually, after this weekend they WILL BE SHUTTING!!! haha cheers Will
Lol. I don't think the problem was the no more nails. You were trying to glue to the silicone residue from black stuff. You generally can't glue to silicone. Honestly the original glue stuff you used seemed to work pretty well ...
yes the one we used before seamed good but they never had any in the shop so we went with something else, absolute disaster, well at least there's no chance of them falling of now haha
@@TheNomadicCrobot My only problem is that you used wood screws in metal that is only a few mm thick. Not too many threads in the metal. If they come loose, use sheet metal screws or maybe even tap in some threads and use machine screws ...
I was sad to see you paint them. At least the projects (yours, at least!) are starting to become more cosmetic and not just about rust.
I hope your nightmare ends! You are so lucky to have Rebecca as your significant other. She'll keep the boat floating, doing the man stuff (!) while you keep the tea warm and the vlog going!
Will it be too much fresh air without the hatch-doors?
exactly...think of the fresh air
Don't buy a narrow boat without having a survey done first.
We agree đ
Are you sure its not the metal part of the hatch thats the problem? Could they be bent or the hinges misaligned?
I think its a bit of both really, there just a bit old and probably need to be bent back a bit, but the wood is defiantly catching too because we can actually see it now, cheers Rob
maybe its still in the car....
we did actually look....no luck :(
So who gets the cooked ones.
I get the nice ones obviously...
I reckon Chris is dead and laying at the bottom of the canal and Becca has CGI Ed a virtual Chris into this video
haha it would be understandable...bloody nightmare when she's not around haha
Just get out on the canals! bored!!!!
tell me bout it
Most disasterous channel on the planet, maybe. đ
Really, those hatches will have to be stripped, treated, undercoated and re-painted. There's no way around it, especially once you get those little rust bubbles and pitting happening. Colour-matching is difficult with colours that are prone to fading. It will save you a massive amount of time, effort, frustration--and money--if you choose a line of actual metal paints, get some colour chips you like, and then stick with those. You'll be so much happier with the result.
The taps look teriffic! They definitely move your disaster clock back a couple of minutes before midnight, though I can't say the same for the bagels.
oh absolutely, who ever done the paint before has just painted over certain rust areas so were going to have to treat them anyway at some point, were intending of painting the whole thing in the next years anyway, we thought the same, the doors are already faded so to get a colour match could prove harder. haha exactly....the taps came in and saved the day from the big mess haha cheers Peter
