Very informative. I was just a teenager when this happened and I remember hearing about it. Thank you for creating this film.

I remember this event well, I was at school at the time and remember the evacuees coming to England. They were housed in old RAF houses at Calshot on the eastern edge of the New Forest, near Southampton. I don't know what they thought of Calshot because it can be a pretty inhospitable place in the winter with the winds coming off the Solent. The road where the old military houses were built has now been renamed Tristan Close. Some of the evacuees remained there and never went back to the island. The houses are now very attractive properties, as is the Close.

Keep uploading these! They're so enjoyable to watch! Brady and Keith are great but the actual movies are just so well made and vintage.

Some of the evacuees were taken to Gosport in Hampshire. My mother was a Guide Captain at the time, and some of the girls were in her Guide Company.

The islanders were very lucky they didn't lose more to the volcano. I wonder if they were able to recivilize the pack of wild dogs running amuck?!
