The x16 just needs a brighter screen (500 nit minimum) and better chassis color options. 3-tone color scheme's look awkward on this laptop. The outside should either be all Lunar White or be all sand blasted aluminum. Still use my Alienware x15 r2 daily and my x15 r1 is holding up well too.

dear Josh. I am having a hard time with these Core Ultra chips. I feel like there is a lot of discrepancy between the different brands and models that use these chips. Hell, sometimes a CU5 outperforms the 7! Have you noticed this? What are your thoughts and will you do a video on this? Also, which ones do you think are the ones that are actually properly optimized? I know the Yoga pro 9i is.

I agree that the dim screen is nearly a deal breaker. My display is 380 nits, and I always, regardless of when I'm using it, have it at max brightness. If I was buying something new, I would want at least a 500 nit display, especially since I keep my devices for so long.

I agree that the regular price is too high, but Dell constantly runs sales on the X16 and combining a coupon code with Rakuten cash back, I got the Ultra 9 with a 4090, 32 GB RAM, 2 TB SSD, and the cherry keyboard for effectively $2,600. Routinely the Alienware has been the better value for me at the high-end.

And I do admit there it gets points for the solid combination of (H-series replacement) 185H, Geforce xx80+ and 4 fans. The RAM (and I think also wifi?) lose points especially since Dell has been making a big fuss over their new memory module standards which this does NOT include.

Josh, how about the base version of the X16; is that worth it for the cheaper price? Upgrading to the recommended specs makes it cost prohibitive for me. Agree with everything, however, I had two X16 R2 units with excessive backlight bleed on the most expensive configuration. That made me appreciate the G16 4090 with OLED more. Display is really important, it’s a shame they decided to cheap out here.

I returned mine with 4090 because the intel ultra in mine was under performing by too much. Yes it’s plugged in, connected lid shut to an external monitor and well cooled with cpu running around 80c. But performance I was getting was around 70fps on both highest and lowest setting cod warzone with HEAVY stutters all the time, 1% low was 20ish, same in other games I tested, escape from tarkov 40fps only with huge stutters, cannot even run Minecraft without huge stutters, teardown 100ish high, unturned 70ish high, beamng drive 70ish high. And yes gpu never ran over 80%, most of the time less than 40. CPU is ALWAYS either one or two core running max or all core max 90+utilisation with no thermal throttling. Tried all troubleshooting and fresh windows nothing worked. So I’d say be cautious when buying a intel ultra cpu gaming laptop

I own this laptop and compared it with the Pro 7i and it’s really not that big of a deal.

@@noahbollinger2828 Well....I personally like a bright screen. I was not willing to pay $600 more for a dimmer screen, with less performance. I got the Core i9 version of the Legion Pro 7i, with 32gb of ram, with a 4090 for 2600 and some change. There is not any way on this planet I would pay that for the Alienware laptop.

Sorry, not impressed by these core ultra chips,at all.
..They don't belong in gaming laptops of this tier.

Why do you think so? Because of the peak performance?

@@Big_Rice That still doesn't answer my question. What makes the older CPUs better than the Core Ultra generation?
From what I gathered, the new ones are much more energy efficient under high load (not until you reach 30-40 W; there's not much difference below this threshold). That could, theoretically, allow achieve higher computational performance within the same thermal envelope. And let's be honest, that's one of the main limitations of laptops.
So, once again, why is the new generation not better?

I don't understand why you keep calling this laptop your favourite. Ok, the GPU is powerful so it is easy to game on this laptop. It doesn't warm up. But then according to your review, the price is US$3,200, the keyboard is wrongly placed, the screen is very dim, the web cam is terrible, the ports are inconvenient, the chassis is too large, and the speakers are terrible. Don't you think this is a terrible laptop to buy?
Giving conflicting reviews of a product is not a good practice!

Dim screen, lackluster keyboard, terrible speaker, potato webcam, soldered memory, oversized chassis, and on top of all that it’s overpriced. Why is this your favorite?

Dont bother with it. I have the x16r1 and it has spent more time getting repaired than me using it. Overheats, screen with horrible blb, screen backlit stopped working, motherboard shorted and last issue after mb replacement was keyboard not working.
