Roger said that there were between 300,000 to 350,000 people at each of these concerts. John and Rog are in the back having a beer. The crowd chants Brian during his solo. This is so uplifting, thank you for reacting to this particular performance. You can just feel the love.

Their first "breakthrough" audience was in Japan in 1976. (Freddie wrote a ballad in JAPANESE for their fans:
"TEO TORRIATE"... The song was recently featured in the opening of the Olympics in Japan.)
THEN in 1981 (a few yrs before this Rio festival), Queen had their first experience having NON-English speaking audiences numbering in the hundreds-of-thousands in South America, sing ALL of their lyrics back to them in shows. (Queen also recorded a song in honor of their Spanish-speaking fans:
"LAS PALABRAS DE AMOR".)
Then in 1984, Queen spent a month playing shows in South Africa; they had to fly over several planes containing ALL their equipment and, while they were there, they had to hire an armed guard for Freddie! (Sadly, Queen were "crucified" in the media for going, due to the political climate there.)
THEN.... in 1986, Queen were the FIRST band from outside the "Iron Curtain" to be allowed to play in Eastern Europe in Budapest. Queen spent FOUR years working on permissions to go do the concert; Roger Taylor said in an interview that they would NOT be making any money on the venture/they'd be lucky if they broke even. I've read comments from folks who live there, that Queen's coming to play meant SO MUCH to the residents, they still commemorate the concert! There's some great footage of their visit to Budapest, AND of Freddie & Brian learning to play a Hungarian folk song which they performed during the show:
"Tavaszi Szél Viset Áraszt".
(Freddie had the lyrics written on his hand.😄)
...There were AT LEAST 250,000 in this Rio crowd, max capacity was 400,000... and it was 2:00 A.M. at NIGHT when they performed! (There was an "open gate" at the Rio show, so ticket holders could come-and-go and, if they wanted, could walk around outside the venue/still listen to the music... Wembley was "only" 70-some-odd thousand.)

You can see how genuinely Freddie loves for the crowd to sing and interact with him. Even after all of these years, Freddie still holds us all in the palm of his hand. He is simply the very best of the best!

NOBODY can do what Freddie did. The love of the crowd is proof of his universal appeal. Such a beautiful soul. This is the epitome of pure musicianship.
Freddie looks like he is absorbing audience energy (like basking in the sunshine) when the crowd is singing. That man really lived for music & gave it his all. The very least we could do was sing back to him. :)
This is the best Queen live performance with loud crowd singing. Freddie and Brian are great here but the crowd was just awesome here especially singing all of the song in perfect English where in Rio it isn’t the language spoken. As always, great reactions!
This is definitely the most Epic performance of this song. The crowd participation is unmatched with any of their other live performances.
It was always about the music and the fans with Queen. He isn't out there saying "Praise me, I'm amazing." It's more like "We're all here sharing this music and this moment together." It's one of the many things that set them apart from other musicians of the day. This song gave the fans a chance to send the love back to them.
An endless sea of people, across time and space, Cash-- from this 300,000 in Rio to the 300,000 in Russia attending Queen with Adam Lambert's FIRST performance as their frontman in 2012. Queen was the first 'western' band to perform behind the Iron Curtain in Budapest to 80,000 while 40,000 listened outside the stadium. So many I could list! Queen touches the hearts and souls of millions since 1976. Love has no boundaries which this song epitomizes 💖 To this day, Brian May performs 'Love of My Life' solo to each audience, and each time, not only does the audience carry the lyrics, but Freddie *does* make an appearance ❣ Thank you again Cash for brightening my day!

If you listen carefully, you will hear the crowd's accent...also I just noticed for the first time Freddie looks back at Brian with a shocked expression because perhaps he didn't expect them to know the whole song, since many wouldn't know English and they didn't want to stop singing and practically sang the whole song...since you're not getting around to NOW I'M HERE, live at wembley how about a Japanese song, TEO TORRIANTE, they wrote for their Japanese fans...react to them singing this song live in Japan....the Japanese loved Queen and this song was played this year at the Japan winter Olympic games....when they went to Budapest Freddie learned one of their folksongs and had the lyrics written on the palm of his hands...there is a video of he and Brian practicing on the balcony of their hotel and also react to it in concert...they also did a Spanish song

Queen (and Brian May's solo work) has the power fill gaps in the soul you never knew were there, that is just how cosmically eternal they still are!! The fact they are (more often then not) better live is a true testament to their pure talent!

What makes this even more fantastic is the fact that this isn't an English speaking audience, their national language is Portuguese, yet they have memorized the lyrics in English. Freddie says "thank you" to them in Portuguese.

Amazing! Queen played two days at Rock in Rio. And the other version of Love of my life is equally fantastic! The first Rock in Rio was performed in a vacant lot. The ground was full of mud and beer and been there about 350.000 people in this day.
Another great “international” concert is Budapest. Who Wants to Live Forever in Budapest is great!
This song was written for Freddie’s love Mary Austin. They were best friends and never stopped loving and supporting one another even though Mary could not be married to Freddie once she knew he was bisexual. Back then it was much harder for the lgbtq community than it is now. I’m glad she stuck by him though and he her.

Thank you so much for reacting to this!! Remember- Freddie starts off a concert fully dressed wearing a jacket & shirt. As the concert goes further, he begins peeling off clothes to get cooler. So, this is well into the 2 hour concert. Roger & John are taking a break offstage during this song.
During this song, according to Freddie, Deacy and Roger would be backstage having a drink.
BTW - I think there were 250,000 at this concert.
Both Queen shows were filmed (early on 12 and 19 January) and broadcast throughout Brazil by Globo. Each show was watched by nearly 200 million people in over 60 countries and in front of 250,000-500,000 people for each night setting a world record for the biggest paying audience ever at the time. Not to Mention Portuguese is the spoken language yet they sang in flawless english to freddie Two Greatest Singers in History Freddie And Ronnie James Dio and both Loved their Audiences
