  • How does Niacin work? How does Vitamin B3 work? How does nicotinic acid work? All of these questions are asking the same thing! Niacin = B3 = Nicotinic Acid. This vitamin is used to treat dyslipidemia. Anti-hyperlipidemia therapy seeks to prevent the complications heart attack, stroke and other ASCVD risks.

The first time I took niacin I did not know you were meant to flush so I started panicking, then started googling it to find out it is a normal reaction and harmless. Ever since I really actually value the feeling of the flush, when the peak of it ends I start becoming deeply relaxed and free of anxiety and just overall tiredness, it makes me very calm and energetic. I'm taking 500mg every day now in the evening and it also helps me with insomnia from past benzodiazepine use. It's almost like my brain and chest are taking a really deep breath.

To everyone asking about harmful dosage it works like any other drug. You start off with a small dose to build up your tolerance. You don’t immediately start with 2000mg. I recommend taking 250 mg to start off with for a couple days and then bump it up to 500 mg ONLY if you feel your body is ready. Remember everybody is different.

I started at a 1000mg. I was fine with the flush but my legs swell and if I take it a day after or consecutively for 2 days or a day after I still get that swelling. I'll restart next month and start with 100mg and increase it from there after a few months to get my body used to it.

I'm up to 600mg now Nature's Way brand twice a day (Morning/Evening) working my way to 1000mg. I suppose my body is adjusting better to it since asides from the expected flush that clears up I've no other side effects.
I take this with Bilberry (eyes) and Vitamin C for the Arteries along with my 2 Tbs of Sea Moss in the morning since your vasodilating your arteries no better time to infuse it with other nutrients.

I've been taking 500mg 2x daily for at least 10 years. Heart disease runs deep in my family history so I decided in my early 40s that I wanted to protect my vascular health as much as possible. Niacin, fish oil, D3/K2, CoQ10, and a few other supplements have really helped me preserve my overall health, along with exercise and regular fasting. I only take full flushing niacin because it's the only one that really works. I've been taking it for so long that I almost never experience the flush anymore, only when I take it on empty stomach.

So it's just important to be aware of the current evidence on the subject, and that is why I mentioned it. Certainly not everyone who takes significant amounts regularly will then develop Type II, but current evidence shows that there is an increased risk. Differentiate the LDL into it's 7 components and see if you have high glycated end products. Maybe that is beyond this video but people should not be afraid of LDL. You cannot live without it.

I'm anemic and I felt so good I walked on average two hours every day. I barely had any symptoms of covid. This year had a severe case of covid forgot to take niacin because I try to cycle my supplements. First week too sick to get out of bed least of all go walking. Niacin is a vitamin you must start slowly and gradually work your way up to your desired dose. The first time I took it it startled me because I wasnt expecting the side effects. The flushing doesn't last long and as you increase your dose the flushing can eventually go away completely. I have found all the "Take with X and you wont flush" to be bogus. The only thing that worked for me was dosage saturation. I am currently on 4grams and I no longer flush at all. I had debilitating arthritis and am mostly pain free now. I also noticed an increase in cognitive function. 3 years now and no down side except peeing a lot. Stay hydrated.

BEFORE TAKING SLOW RELEASE OR NO FLUSH OPTIONS INSTEAD OF REGULAR NIACIN DO YOUR RESEARCH ABOUT THE DOWNSIDE . Regular niacin will not cause flushing if you slowly build up your dose over days or weeks ---- FLUSHING DOES NOT HARM YOU --- ITS JUST UNCOMFORTABLE FOR A SHORT PERIOD --- YOU FEEL HOT AND ITCHY FOR 15-30-60 MIN OR SO. it depends how sensitive you are to it so start with the low dose maybe 50mg/day and build up.

I enjoy that niacin "flush" when I hit the hay. It feels cool & refreshing ... as if I'd just completed a steam bath (even when that's far from the case). People are always startled, scared and misjudge it when they don't know to expect the flush. When they DO know ahead of time, however, they can enjoy its uplifting effects ... presented at the RIGHT time & environment . Best to take it just before you go to sleep. It's so comfortable while you just lay there motionless, you won't feel like moving. Even feels like it reboots the mind ... feeling more rested afterward ... both physically & mentally. (Just be prepared for its slightly extra cooling effect ... with an adequate sheet or light blanket.) :)

Last week I started taking non flushing Nature’s Bounty brand but unlike video, it has 400 mg of niacin with inositol hexanicotinate for flushing. I’ve thus far had no flushing. Luckily, I did not hurt myself. Effects were gone in an hour but it was a torture. So start with a small dose to see how your body tolerates it.

My doctor prescribed niacin years ago. I took one pill. In an hour by arms were on fire, my legs were both vibrating. An hour and a half later it subsided and then within the next hour it started over again. It was so painful I was ready to go to the emergency room when it finally quit hurting. It was like the worse sunburn of my life. I don't remember turning very red though. Just a burning sensation.

I love the flush now. I take 2-4g a day. My neck burns and my chest itches so bad if i take it at night. I mix more than 1g in my citrus flavor fiber powder drink. After a nice hot shower before bed with the niacin flush, it's super rejuvenating. Once you get used to it, it's a game-changer. Like my brain fogs completely disappears after the flush, it is super sauna-like and relaxing in a good way... something about opening up the capillaries and flushing fresh oxygenated blood to my brain and under my skin makes the post-flush feeling really youthful. Biggest plus is my HDL went from 52 -> 84 and VLDL 102 -> 83.

Soo… out of curiosity here, you mentioned that Niacin increases the uric acids, but since uric acids are broken down purines waste in the blood, wouldn’t niacin assist in easing the pain of gouts and such? Because it breaks down the triglycerides, assisting with better blood flow and giving less chances of uric acids building up.

While great that you are trying to deduce some connections: As a biologist I don't think that these can be such straightforward.
The level of TGs in blood is regulated...
Certainly the pathway mentioned is only one of those that lead to the formation of TGs.
But may be that this one is mainly responsible for elevated TGs. Maybe.
Where have you heard that lower TGs alone would increase blood flow? 🤔🙃 There are so many, much more voluminous or dense constituents in the blood. Also, lowering the "bad" cholesterols (actually there is a whole range of different densities, sizes of good and bad...) doesn't always lower the clot formation. Things in biology are always more complicated than one can think of ... 🤫
