The damn thing didn't even have rust when I got it, the frame got undercoated every winter. It has the 5.2 V8 because they didn't come out with the 4.7 until 01 I believe but holy shit is this engine bulletproof. well even though I had a Dakota and loved it I have to tell the world if you don't already know it...ALL the later model Dakotas were rust buckets. As a matter of fact now that I think about it all Dodge/Ram trucks up until about 2010 had rust issues especially around the rear wheel wells. Just look around at the older Dodges and you will see most of them have those big wheel well moldings/flares on them to cover the rusting out parts up. Dodges were mechanically very solid but definitely rustworthy. Occassionally a good one comes around but not very often in my observations...this all coming from a lifetime Dodge / RAM owner......

    1999-2007 classic silverado/sierra is the best GM truck year if you're under the $10k range. 2007-2013 had a lot of problems with AFM, which you can get rid of altogether for $200. Personally I'd rather have a 2005 with leather and other nice options than a 2008 W/T singlecab or extended cab. I just like the classic body style more personally

    I got a buck and thirty eight sense out of my 2004 3v Triton. Put two window regulators in it, stamped made in China. Changed spark plugs pulled seven of eight plugs that broke myself as I'm a machinist so it was 45 min. per plug and I already had everything I needed. At that point cam passers seemed a little weak and I really didn't want to put a new timing set, cam phasers oil pump. Ford put a dummy oil pressure gage on their trucks so no one really new the oil pressure until they had zero then the gauge would drop all at once. Yea I got enough of Ford and I'm pretty Shure my moms 5.0 still has the same deceptive gauge. I horse traded mine in 2014 as I sold the truck for 10,500 and bought a year newer Toyota Sequoia with a few less miles for 10,300. After Tags and registration it was a wash. I will only buy used from this point forward until the price of new ones come down and if the price of gas goes to 4 bucks a gallon and it will I will get a one ton for the farm. But in the meantime I'm going to hold on to what I've got because even the used ones are twice what they should cost. Maybe in the next economic downturn all the auto manufactures will go defunct we need some new brands, no one needs to sell a kidney to buy these things. lol

    Just my 2 cents I cant speak on the nission or dodge but I can vouch that the Chevy hands down has the most reliable engines in those trucks . The 4.8 and 5.3 are bullet proof. Now after awhile they may have a horrible lifter tap but over all good engines. The transmissions are a different story on those trucks. My friend has a 08 model and 200,000 miles and is on his 4th transmission. I have a 99 f150 and have been through one engine at 225,000 miles. Just put a motor in and have 250,000 now . Original transmission and I beat the hell out of it . Over all good truck. My personal opinion is that fords have better transmissions and chevys have better motors in these year models (ford 97-10) chevy (99-current) Its just like anything else if you treat it good it will last a good bit.

    • @VehicleVirals
      @VehicleVirals  Před 5 lety

      You really going to put me on the spot? Lol. This has always been a tricky choice. I personally prefer the styling of the Camaro because of its wider, mean look. I remember first seeing the concept in the first transformers and falling in love it. That said I think performance wise for the lower trims Mustang has the edge with their ECOboost 4 cylinder pushing just over 300HP. While I believe the base Camaro pushes just under 300HP. If you move up to the higher trims the Camaro ZL1 is the winner for me vs the Mustang's Shelby GT350 Shelby. The ZL1 is a track monster according to others.
      So to answer your question I prefer the Camaro especially the due to the style especially the ZL1 but I think the Mustang is King. It has a much bigger fan base.
