  • DeWALT's new FlexVolt angle grinder is wicked awesome.
    Bare tool amzn.to/2eV1EiR (affiliate link)
Tool with Battery Kit amzn.to/2eMz0CO (affiliate link)
The price for the bare tool is $179 and the price for the kit is $299
The DCG414B 4-1/2 in. - 6 in. (115 mm - 150 mm) Grinder with Kickback Brake is maximized for power and durability.
It delivers 13 Amp power as compared to the D28144N with the portability and convenience of cordless through DEWALT's FlexVolt technology. The DCG414B comes with the tool only.
    From DeWALT-
    -13 Amp equivalent power
-Brake engages when trigger is released, stopping speeds of 1.5 seconds with standard grinding wheel (4-1/2 in. x 1/4 in. bonded abrasive wheel, non-hubbed)
-Kickback brake engages when a pinch, stellar bind-up event is sensed and the electronic brake engages with maximum force to quickly stop the wheel, reduce the movement of the grinder and shut the grinder off
-E-clutch activates in less than a tenth of a second when a pinch/stall is detected, shutting down the motor
-9,000 RPM speed allows the use of up to 6 in. wheels
-Allows for up to 6 in. wheel size for both cutting and grinding applications

I grew up using a corded dewalt drill which was really great quality. I needed an angle grinder for some metal work so I just purchased their dcg415 angle grinder yesterday. While it came with a paper manual that I read, videos are so much more helpful.
I spent hours today watching tutorial videos on DeWalt angle grinders. While they were all somewhat informative, yours was the most helpful as far as putting on and taking off discs, how to adjust the guard, etc. Your camera angles were great and made it really easy to see exactly what you were doing. Had to subscribe!
Even though your model is a little different it was close enough for me to figure out how to use mine safely.
I haven't really researched if Makita or Milwaukee or any of the other brands put out instructional videos for each of their products but if I find one that does, I would start buying their products instead for that reason alone. I don't know why DeWalt thinks that everyone who purchases their tools magically knows how to use them. If they threw up a 5-10 min basic tutorial video on their website or on CZcams that goes over how to get started, basic functions, which accessories and disc sizes are compatible, etc, that would be a game changer.

    • @dubiouslycrisp
      @dubiouslycrisp Před 3 lety +1

The spacers/flanges he showed did come with the tool. The outer one acts like a nut to tighten over the disc. You can either do finger tight or use the allen key. The one that goes between the grinding/cutting disc and the motor requires no tools to remove. It is on loosely and kept from falling off due to being sandwiched by the disc and the tightening nut.

The only difference seems to be the lack of a B at the end of the product model. Both output 1700W of power.

Your description of the electronic brake was incorrect, an electronic brake works by forcing the tool to stop the disc from spinning almost immediately after you let go of the trigger. This safety feature is helpful in that if you loose control of the tool and let the trigger go it wont keep spinning and damage you or your work, it also allows you to set the tool down quickly instead of having to wait for the disc to spin down (like old style grinders)

Because it is powerful enough to be used as a real grinder. Most “cut-off” tools in the battery operated configuration simply do not have the power to operate as a grinder. This grinder can be used as either. I own and use this tool on a regular basis, I can attest that it definitely has the power to grind. All of that being said the cordless version can still not compare to a 120V corded grinder, but it is getting pretty dang close.

Since I had never used one, I watched a couple of youtube videos and I'm so glad I did. Some really good safety tips, which I followed, and this tool did a splendid job. One good thing to know is the weight of the tool puts just about the right amount of pressure on the metal I was cutting, so I didn't have to use a lot of pressure, which is more likely to jam the tool. It made fast work of my job.

Always use both nuts. Taking away the back nut takes away all support on the disc, especially for grinding. Made me cringe.

+Jason P totally understand your concern yet that's what the directions call for with the large discs. When looking at the directions they have good guidance on when to use both flanges, most of the time this will be the case

Home Repair Tutor Tools & Gear If the manufacturer says it can be done then it's on them. Quite bizarre but oh well.

The numbers on the boxes for tools are so inaccurate they are honestly not worth reading.

+John Fraser understand your skepticism...I like reading the boxes though, there's still a lot of objective info on them

+Johannes Flipo I can assure you it's not, I don't do paid reviews. Tools have been a part of my life since being a kid. So I suppose my enthusiasm is from those memories

Meh. I will stick with AVE's channel. More in depth, more experienced & funnier.
You appear to be really uncomfortable with the tool, didn't really push it or try to bog it down or even show it grinding. Your run time comment must be based on the marketing wank on the box. Ave killed the battery in 5.5 minutes - hard core grinding on a piece of angle iron.
Still a great tool. I recently picked one up on Craigslist with a battery & charger.
Hate that the 20V battery doesn't fit it though. Something you could have also delved into.

I couldn't even watch half the video. Dude that's not the standard charger and the battery doesn't have fuel its the charge level....
