- DeWalt upped the game on themselves when they released this DCG418 FlexVolt grinder. The DCG418 now has a 3HP (2200 Watts Output) motor with 9000 no-load wheel speed.
DCG418 (bare tool) $179: homedepot.sjv.io/XP9V4
DCG418X1 (kit with 9/3Ah FlexVolt battery and charger): homedepot.sjv.io/BX0Eo0
DCG418X2 (kit with 2x 9/3Ah FlexVolt batteries and charger): homedepot.sjv.io/2P0Ag
The old DCG414 FlexVolt grinder had 2.2HP and it was already a beast. If you think that cordless doesn't have the muster to keep up with a cord, you should try this DeWalt DCG418 grinder.
DeWalt claims that it has the power equal to a corded 13A grinder, and this stands to reason. Due to runtime, we don't think that any production shop or hardcore fabricator will Replace their grinder with this DeWalt cordless; however, this could be a great supplemental tool when needed. Mobile welders and fabricators can work more efficiently on smaller jobs without the need to drag out an extension cord.

You can rotate the motor 90 degrees on the gear housing. So the blade cuts vertically. Without having to spin your wrist. Just remove the 4 screws and spin it. Also you can change how the guard button works. I like changing it from the factory setup. It’s all in the manual.
Sweet, that's good to know. Thanks for watching.
Nice
Got one of these for my welding class in college and it’s an absolute beast
Yup it sure is 👍
I got this new grinder and as it does eat batteries but the amount of grinding and cutting you can get done in that time is substantially more then other grinders. This thing really is a beast. Hands down prolly dewalt best cordless tool they have ever made. Ergonomics, comfort, power and all. I even attached a rafter hook to mine. i have a couple 12ah as well and some more 9ah plus 4 port fast charger so honestly for me im never out of juice
That sounds like an awesome setup you have. We agree, this grinder will really get the work done, and it sounds like you have the right idea for batteries. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Looks awesome!
It is! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Damn I get so much done with the basic Dewalt cordless 20v grinder. I put it thru hell and so much abuse and still going. Can’t imagine what this beast would do..... ima go get it soon.... great content 👍
The DeWalt FlexVolt definitely leads the pack on cordless grinders. Thanks for watching.
Whoa... Really interesting tool considering most of the work I do in the field require like half the time trying to find a outlet to make a few cuts or grind some gunk of a piece of metal and put a couple of beads of weld down. 😅
Amazing
I had the 414 before it was stolen from my van along with 6K's worth of tools, i'll be going with the 418!
That's a bummer, sorry to hear about that. You'll be happy with the 418. Thanks for watching.
Gotta give it to dewalt that looks like a powerful grinder, I wish milwaukee had something on that power level
Definitely, they have made a great grinder. Supposedly, the new Milwaukee M18 grinder is supposed to be legit as well, but we haven't reviewed it yet.
@@Shoptoolreviews yup I've just seen a Milwaukee promo sale which supposed to have 1550watt equivalent to corded power, hope you guys review it soon and thanks for the video much appreciated
I don't have the red tools, just the yellow ones. I like competition, so red needs to get with the program and help drive prices down for all of us!
I got to dimo the 60v dewalt grinder before it was available to the public and I love it I will say this if you want the best put dewalt to the test
Can you use this for tiles as well?
How much is a 12ah battery at 60v? 5amp?
This beats out the milwaukee... I'm saddened
We haven't put them head-to-head yet, but I'm pretty confident that DeWalt has the edge. Thanks for watching.
@Danny Gonzalez far from the king when it comes to the sawzall dewalt just released their new 60v flexvolt sawzalls that destroys milwaukee sawzalls!
Great tool I love it. For cutting tiles, do you recomment the 12 aH? What battery would you reccomend?
It depends on how much tile you're cutting. It should be fine with the 9ah unless you're using this as your primary tile cutting tool, then I'd step up to the 12Ah. Thanks for watching.
Just get two or three 9ah more cost effective. And I multi charger aswell keep them going if your non stop ;-)
I have this thing. Stupid power but battery doesnt last long.
I got a 12.0ah battery for it so i can het the most of it
Right on!! Crazy power but eats batteries pretty quick. Yes, the 12Ah definitely helps. What do you use it for? Thanks for watching and commenting.
I have one battery does lastl last long !
They sell the exact same grinder as a 7"/180mm now, well it has a slightly different gear housing to run at 6,000RPM rather than 9,000 and a different guard but the handle, motor, etc. is the same.
They reckon it has 30% more torque, probably better than most corded 7/9s, would def. be handier.
Wait the new dewalt dcg440 7inch has the same motor as the dcg418? That's not what I heard🤔
@@marcowens3522 I got both 418 and 440 . The 440/7"has more power than my brother in-laws 7" Milwaukee 9/7"grinder ( it's useless on 9" cutting )but good on 9" sander polishimg and lite to medium on grinding. The Milwaukee 9 came out with 2 safety guards, 1 for 7" the bigger one for 9 inch. When I change to 7" ma'an it's a beast on H O/ 6 ah. The 440 nxj was more grunty and faster than the Milwaukee and longer run time on 2ahx60v flexvolt /6ah 18 volt .Tested them both on 1" inch hard faced grader blade same battery . Length cut DW7"1200 mm and the MW 7"on 1050. The Waukee was smoother than the DW. The DW had abit of vibration, but the power and speed was there on vertical cuts . I think that was abit hash cutting, even for my corded 7" grinder's . My brother in-law will be handing the Waukee to me soon cos he gone crook and can't move around much now
Will that run on the 54V 6AH battery?
IT will run on any of the FlexVolt batteries. Thanks for watching.
Let's ruffle some feathers real world welder here 22 long years experience just got one I love but the very first thing u have to do is take the guard off and the handle and throw them away then it's perfect use your tool don't let the tool use you
Where's the problem code?
Just a curious Dewalt grinder newbie . You are using a Type 1 disk in
the video. Shouldn't you be using a Type 1 guard with a Type 1 disk
(like the Dewalt manual says) or is it common practice among experienced
users like yourself to ignore the manuals and the safety advice in
them?
There a new , 7" DeWalt why no one is talking about this
Samething I was wondering.
I am not convinced it has 3hp, that would make it as powerful as a Stihl ms250.
"Only has 3 lights on the battery, really need 4" ...First world problems eh
Exactly right, lol. Thanks for watching.
Bla Bla Bla
Who sells that kit for $299.00? Everywhere else it's $445!
Home Depot has it for $299 for a single battery kit.
homedepot.sjv.io/BX0Eo0
The 299 kit has one battery and the slower charger. For 449, you can get the kit with 2 batteries and the rapid charger.
@JKirkrms6 truth!
@JKirkrms6 I only have the single rapid charger. A 4 place rapid one would be really nice. I have the knock off 4 place and it is great to have. I only had 6 ah flex, 5ah, and 2ah batteries at the time. That worked out for me. If I get more into the 9ah flex batteries, I'll need to consider a 4 place rapid.
I just bought one for $273 on ebay
That is not the new battery tho
What does that mean? It runs on any of the FlexVolt batteries. Thanks for watching.
@@Shoptoolreviews no bud they get more power with the new batteries because the got 21700 cells
@@miguelledezma1394 nope, that pack had 21700s in it. @ 2:01 you can see the little metal tabs showing through along the battery rails and a manufacture date of 2019 on it. The 20700 packs didn't have those.
They switched from 20700s to 21700s in the 6.0 XR and 9.0 FV pack in mid-late 2018. The pack you're talking about just had an updated sticker, it has nothing to do with what cells are in it.
