Exactly the type of comparison I was looking for! Thank you for the well thought out video.
AMAZING! So thorough and helpful. Thank you so much!
Excellent Job! Thanks for doing this video!
OH MY GOSH THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO
Both sound good!
Nice video! Looking at this one after the one you made on the tascam dr10l made me realize that I need to upgrade my videomicro to a dr10l!!!
Sick content again! Informative and well presented as always..
Btw that outro was so human and funny! Overall a well balanced vid: pro content/enjoyable,entertaining = great viewing experience! Keep them coming!
Ha! It's the worst. Thanks for watching.
just the video i was looking for.
i think im gonna choose the Rode VideoMicro , use it before and i have 4 movo lavaliers and use them for 4 years and let me tell you they sounds excellent !
An awesome video as per usual Brian. 😁 👍
To my ears (like with all of your videos I'm listening to this with in-ear headphones) I definitely agree that the unprocessed/raw audio out of the Røde Video Micro sounds a little bit crisper, fuller and richer as opposed to the Movo VXR10.
However, with that being said, to my untrained ear, the unprocessed/raw audio out of the Movo VXR10 sounds serviceable.
However, once again with that being said, the processed audio with the EQ applied to my ear definitely gives the Movo VXR10 a win over the Røde Video Micro.
P.S. that outro made me genuinely laugh out loud. 😂
Cheers! 🍻
Brian! I’m so glad you made this video mate. I’ve been tossing up between these two mics for ages, to use as boom mics; and could never find anyone whose done a comparison other than sitting atop a camera two metres away from the speaker. Thanks greatly for doing this. I’m wondering what both of these sound like when used in a voiceover situation. Either of these would make excellent podcast mics when away from the studio and you have nothing but an iPhone (with headphone jack) and no interface or XLR mic with you. God bless you mate. Steve.
Great! Which one did you like best?
Raw, the Movo sounded best. But I reckon the Rode sounded better processed. Thanks for replying to my comment. Sei molto bravo amico.
Thanks for the very well explained video. I will favour the Rode VideoMicro as that is what I already own!
P.S.: Doubly grateful for showing the AmazonBasics extension cable. I was going to buy the much expensive Rode VC1 cable. Looks like the AmazonBasics cable does the job pretty well.😊🍹
Thank you for this great video...your channel has been extremely helpful!
So this might be a dumb question, but do you need to connect your audio recorder to the camera when capturing sound with the mic? I've seen another vlog that said to connect the recorder to the camera as well but it seemed unnecessary to me when the recorder has an SD.
Not a dumb question at all. Three ways forward: 1) Connect mic directly to camera, capture everything in camera; 2) Connect mic to recorder to take advantage of higher quality preamps, then recorder to camera, capture everything in camera; 3) Connect mic to recorder and capture audio separately from video, sync in post.
1) is easiest with lowest quality. 2) is still easy, better quality. 3) is slowest, most difficult, but best quality by far.
Hey Brian, great video but I have a question. Exactly what size adapter did you use to attach the Movo to the boom stand
It's a 5/8" to 1/4" thread adapter. Should be in the description?
Any recommendations for best mic for unboxing-style videos? Camera would be overhead and mouth would be facing desk, but not always pointed directly at mic. Looking to get a high-quality result and pairing with a Zoom H6 recorder or similar so open to XLR -focus is on quality rather than budget. Great video. Subscribed! :)
On occasion I use my Rode Videomicro by holding it waist height off camera like a news reporter may do. It works pretty well too.
Great!
Would either of these be suitable for recording a talking head in a busy networking style environment?
Not bad. I personally use a Shure SM57 as my overhead boom. It sounds absolutely amazing. It's a little power hungry so I couple it with a Triton Audio Fethead, which provides a 25db ultra-clean gain boost. Best audio setup I've ever used, and it's budget friendly. I recommend you try it.
Hi Gabriel, I also use a range of high end mics for a variety of purposes. But that's not what this video is about. This particular video is for people looking to repurpose a budget on-camera shotgun mic as a boom mic for talking head shots.
The SM57 (I've got one right here) is a professional XLR mic, which will not connect to a camera and is not designed for boom or shotgun uses.
Having said that, the SM57 is a phenomenal alternative to an SM7B for those looking to do podcasting.
@@AudioforContentCreators Try it as a boom. Trust me.
@@AudioforContentCreators Just because it's professional doesn't mean it's not budget friendly. It's only $40 more than a Rode VideoMicro. Also, because of its polar pattern and heavy off-axis rejection, it serves amazing as a boom, even if it wasn't necessary 'designed' to be one. Also, I've found it to be perfectly balanced as far as sibilant/low-end ratio. It's not too bright and tingy, but it's not too muddy and low. It's perfect at boom distance, just out of frame. It sounds so good, most of the time, I don't need any post-processing. You say it doesn't connect to a camera, which is true because it's an xlr, but if you use your Tascam recorder, Zoom, or any other recorder, like you use in this video, it can easily be adapted. All I'm saying is, don't knock it till you try it. (btw a cloudlifter works exactly like a fethead). I'm enjoying the content. 👌
No doubt! My point was this video is for people who want to boom directly to a camera, which won't accept XLR. They'd need either an audio interface or a higher end portable recorder, which many don't own.
Again, I've used the SM57 for precisely this purpose. We're agreeing about it's value, just not the purpose of this particular video ;) Thanks for watching!
Do you have a video showing how to do post processing, incl EQ settings?
I do! A 3 part series here on the channel. Check the playlists. If you need more, I have a comprehensive online course for beginners: audio101.info
Thanks for your video! Can you help me on choose one n these mics or an audio recorder like the zoom H1, I'm musician and I need something to record good audio quality but lightweight and not so expensive. The video is going to be catched with the phone, but don't know what option is better to acoustic songs and singing.
Have a good day!
Tascam DR05 for sure.
@@AudioforContentCreators Thanks for your time!
Hi there, I own the pyle mic stand with a 5/8 male fitting on the end what size thread adapter will I need to connect the movo vxr10 mic to the stand? Thanks.
5/8 to 1/4"
Hi, I tried using MOVO recorded directly into my latest Macbook (M1 Chip), tbh the bass is close to totally missing, it feels very like in built audio, am i getting something wrong? On the other hand i'm purchasing A6400 later today, i really pray the audio would at least be like yours if connected to a camera which is what movo was built for. I realised you are using a recorder? Is that the main reason why it's like this ?
Did you use the TRRS adapter cable for the computer and select the external mic as your input?
Can you plug straight into computer movo vxr10 pro and record your voice directly in the computer?
Yes, and I demoed it on the VXR10 Pro review.
Which microphone is good for noise reduction sound ....... ????
Well, microphones aren't designed for noise reduction. Acoustic treatment is. But you'll want a dynamic cardioid mic to minimize background noise.
the movo has a well balanced hi mid low. the rode is light years away behind...
Great video. I'm looking at these 2 mics.
ON A DIFFERENT NOTE, anyone ever yell you you like a white Snoop Dogg 🤣😂👍🏿👍🏿
@John Weland 🤣🤣 right on
Processed Movo sounded best (for your voice)
Movo VXR10 sounds much better on my Samsung S10 phone speakers.
