for anyone interested, you can buy a boom pole with the xlr inside it. On each end you have the xlr plug that you connect to the microphone and the other end to your audio recorder. It cost me only $69. I have the Zoom H6 audio recorder which I attach to the boom pole so it makes the entire set up mobile and lightweight. I use small velcro straps to keep the audio recorder on the boom pole. Doing this makes it easier for the boom operator to easily hit record and stop when needed.

As you said, really recommend a C stand if using a boom pole / mic to ensure it doesnt tip. Please ensure the sand bag does NOT touch the ground when you put it on the leg...else it defeats the purpose. Good instructional video.

    I have the same set-up.
What an enjoyment to see how you show how it's done!
In these situations I usually record the audio from two sources.
One Sennheiser MKE600 mic into the TASCAM DR-60DmkII and the other one I use the Saramonic SR-WM4C wireless system which goes via the Saramonic PAX-2 audiomixer into the camera.
That way I'm just playing it safe :)

Yes, 6:40 is a great example of how to get kicked from a job; that weight is doing absolutely nothing to support the stand. !
