Your comment that "good audio" is probably more important than 'bad video" was brought home to me recently. I am a CZcams history buff. I began working in broadcasting in the mid-1950's at ABC-TV in NY. At that time, before even black & white videotape was commercially developed, programing was recorded on Kinescope for immediate re-transmission to delayed time zones and for program preservation. To those too young to know what and how Kinescope operated; basically, a black & white motion picture film camera was pointed directly into a black & white TV monitor. The expose film was immediately fed into a chemical photographic processor and came out fully developed and dried very quickly. The audio was recorded simultaneously on the film stock on an optical soundtrack (later on a magnetic stripe). The grainy film quality was poor, but the audio was comparatively good. That is why when viewing a very old video on CZcams today; while the picture is extremely poor, the audio is usually more acceptable. This goes to the premise that you will watch poor video with acceptable audio, but not necessarily the other way around.
Dude you are a ROCKSTAR!! Not only did you save us the hassle of research, you attached all the links to buy the individual pieces PLUS gave us an assembly tutorial! - I rarely make comments on CZcams videos but I wanted to pop in and say THANK YOU!!!
This is the best video on this topic I’ve seen. I’m always confused as to what audio equipment to buy, and all of this is actually under 50$! Great video, you earned yourself a subscriber!
Glad to help! Have you checked out my online course? If you're usually confused about audio, it'll really help you understand what you do and, more likely, don't need.
Not yet, but I’ll be sure to check it out!
Bruh. You saved me so much time. Thank you.
So many CZcamsrs need this advice
Brian I understand your master plan
Awesome vid, well presented, and really drives home the difference between what good/immersive audio sounds like compared to bad audio!
This is perfect, had literally no clue how to even set this up before this video, and wondered why everyone recommends the Movo, when I actually thought that mic was very rough, loud hissing sounds, and unclear, thanks so much for showing us how to do this!!
This is clutch! Doing my first Interview style production today, and needed a quick audio setup. Thanks!
Thank you for your video on setting up an affordable mic set up above the speaker. The richer tones are clearly more appealing. 'A great video.
Thanks for the video! Going to shoot some new course videos and wanted a boom set-up and this tutorial was great.
Great!
Brilliant, along with a lot of your other vids. I’ve watched about eight of the in the last day or two. Clear, well-produced, valuable. Thank you.
This was super helpful, thank you! What is the microphone being used within the video?
This video helped out greatly. I'm new to recording and knew that the microphone was key, but trying to get the sound right is lost on me and most guides just say "get a good microphone" and leave it at that. Thanks so much!
Glad to hear it! The video I just uploaded an hour ago will be a great resource for you on this exact topic.
This was SO useful!! Thank you, btw, you look super sympathetic
I am just getting started and I don't have any of the tech required for youtubing. Came across this video and figured this helped a lot for me to get some idea. Thanks a bunch.
My pleasure!
Well done! My lapel mic failed after 6 uses so in the trash it goes. I bought the boom stand, cable and new Movo VXR-10 Pro. Should be much better. I’m recording guitar through an amplifier so no doubt that’ll be a learning curve for good quality sound.
AfCC coming in clutch yet again! As always.. thank you sir🤝🏾
Exactly what I was looking for. Except that I needed to know how to make this mic stand work with a Yeti USB mic.
Way too heavy. Don't do it!
Awesommmeeeeeee, you just resolved my problem!! I bought the rode videomic NTG to do voice overs but it just sounded very bad and really crackely when I put it in front of me and recorded audio... I spend days trying to solve this by recording under a blanked, doing a firmware update and changing every setting on the Mic, on my pc and trying different software. In the end after watching this video I tried a overhead boom setup and now I am super happy with the audio, thank you so much!!!
As per usual this was an awesome in-depth very informative & interesting tutorial and video, Brian. 😁 👌
Cheers man! 🍻
I've never seen your content before but I'm subscribing immediately because your personality SOLD ME haha you're awesome
Thanks!
After three months of getting active, I am finally upgrading my audio and THIS VIDEO SHOWED ME HOW!
Thanks for all the suggestions, I bought all the gear from your links and also got the same mic! Cheers!
Just bought VM NTG, was going to spend $130 on a boom mic stand… glad I saw this. Will grab the cheap Amazon stand from your links. Next thing I’m learning about is, if my Sony A7C audio preamps are going to be decent enough.. or, if I should grab a zoom f2 for an extra $180.
They're probably "good enough." It's up to you to decide if that's good enough for you and your audience.
It has been used several times and loved.
Fantastically explained with great example recordings clearly showing the differences.
Thanks Eduard!
Coming from review video for Tascam DR05X.
I like your content so I subscribed 🥳
Thank you for making so good videos. Have a nice one!
This was a really comprehensive but to-the-point video, i needed a video like this to hook up an overhead mic im ordering and this was perfect. 'ppreciate it brotha!
Awesome! Glad it was super helpful. What kind of content are you making?
I picked up the movo based off your reviews. Thanks for the great content!
Great! Do you love it?
@@AudioforContentCreators Yes, it's amazing. I use it for vlogging on my iPhone 11 Pro. The only issue is the lack of gain control in iOS and the Moment Pro app. The audio clips all the time. I think the only app with that features is Filmic Pro.
@@billdryzco5398 Ah, yes. Apple seems unable or unwilling to offer manual audio controls like we do in Android. It's a shame.
Oh man, Finally this the tutorial that I was trying to looking for! Thanks.
You give a cost-effective material ..Very helpful ...Indian touch ...wooow...Iam using boom stand and g9x or digicam for unboxing Thankyou bro
Ha! I’ve just recently made this switch to an overhead mic myself and I think I’ve achieved similar results although my audio is never as crisp as yours (I’m so jealous of you acoustically treated room)......
My guess for your camera would have to be a Canon of some sort.....M50?
Do you have an example of the lack of crispness? I'd love to hear.
@@AudioforContentCreators This is my best try on the intro on this video czcams.com/video/SAO2zHTkniI/video.html I am using my Rode Video Micro as a shotgun mic plugged straight into my Canon M6.
P.s I've just purchased your audio course and I'm really looking forward to learning all about audio especially now as I'm looking to upgrade as I wish to buy an Audio interface and shotgun mic.
Fantastic video. Really appreciate you making this second channel. You’ve really helped me up my audio game a lot on my channel!
I ordered everything through your links 😊
Thanks so much!
Thank you! I love the sound of my microphone and instead of playing russian roulette with a new microphone I thought of getting a boom arm, but this microphone stand looks like a smarter choice 🙃
I just picked up the MOVO VXR10 off your suggestions. Not ready to put the money out for a boom setup yet, but I should only be three or four feet from the camera, so I think it should be fine!
perfect video, just bought the stand stuff and subscribed. Thanks
Great video. Thank you!
Thank you 🙏🏽
Thank you. This is great. Truly very helpful
So helpful. I'm completely brand new and this video makes it very easy to start, thank you !
great advice, was trying to work out where I should have my mic for a video podcast!
this video was PERFECT! This was just what I needed to set up my boom mic system. Dude everything you did in this video was great!! Thank you very much!!! SUBSCRIBED
amazing video! thanks so much for this 🙌
Very insightful and interesting video... I have mine close-ish to me and not quite above me yet and I've felt quite distant still with that setup... So I'll definitely try overhead
17-38 sec....please make a detailed video about how we can archive sounds like you...the amazing background hearbeat music you put in your background just love it all those other little instuments. Please also tell us about what kind of music is suitable for voice over background...
You deserve way, way more subscribers, dude!
Thanks dude! Bought the stand on your recommendation.
Cheers so much for this video and making it so easy to understand! :)
I think it's cheaper and simpler to use a lavalier mic that uses a cable like Boya BM 1. because you don't need to be confused anymore where to place it, plus the audio port already has options for TRS and TRRS
That is the video I was searching for. Thanks a lot. Great video with perfect explanation. It helps definitely.
Great advice and great video. I use this exact setup (same stand and microphone) as my primary setup and think it sounds even better than an expensive wireless lav. Great to know it doesn’t take a $200+ mic to get great audio. QUESTION: do you recommend using the dead cat when indoors in a controlled environment? Have you done any tests with vs without it?
Great tutorial, I will be trying this since I own a rode video micro.
try to remmove deadcat thing, you will get much better experience trust me
Great info! Appreciate your expertise.
Dude your room is amazing!!
Yes, so happy to see this!
really nicely done, thank you!
You should have more subs that 3.6K, that's ridiculous man! Great Video - I had borrow my buddie's Sennheiser MK400 but I broke it taking it off my tripod, so I bought a new one and gave that to him, and repaired the one I broke, but it turned out really bad, and it sucks because those mic's sound great!
Thanks so much!
Not that I didn't believe you that this would work when I first watched this...But I just tried this setup for the first time and was so impressed at how well it sounded. My home office is not treated at all but this setup made my audio 100% better. Thanks again for the great info.
Great!! What type of content are you making?
Audio for Content Creators I started vlogging about my fitness lifestyle. Tried to incorporate that into a long Disney vacation. I’m currently doing a daily transformation program. On day 35 of 84 and uploading daily.
Quality content. You definitely deserve more than 3k subs.
BIG Thank you!
Is this portable? Can you break up the mic stand into small pieces and travel with it in a backpack for example?
another great video! thanks you
This is FABULOUS! You are wonderful!! Thank you for this oh my god I want to cry. You are so likable too I am subscribing! Thank you!!!!!! Ps. I LOVE the purple 😁
Confusing since the Amazon link to the 10 foot cable shows it being plugged into computers and cell phones And never mentions TRS
great video thanks
Thanks for the brilliant setup video. You couldn’t have timed it more better!🍹👍
thank you for the video! Super helpful!
great tips, you are greatly appreciated
Thank you so much brother for this information 👍❤️
Thanks, congratulations, excellent video with real experience of the result. Thank you very much...
My pleasure!
Great job bro; I bought this exact set up on your advice. Thank you
Finally, recommended soundproof foam on a budget?
Sound proof or sound absorption?
My volume was 1/4 of the way but thank you alot I already had the mic but didn't like the sound this should solve my problems!
Thank you sm, super healpful :)
Thank you, it helps much. Cool!
Hi, my name is Brian Miller and I'm... EVERYTHING haha - Brian for President! :)
What an awesome video and still 3 years on for working from home, this is awesome.
Did you do any post-processing to the audio at all, or is that how it was recorded directly from the mic?
No post processing in this video at all!
@@AudioforContentCreators wow, that's incredible. Just purchased a Diety D4 Mini and hope for similar results when mounted on my monitor for "talking head" videos.
You should link the Movo VXR10-PRO in this video. I'm sure you'll generate affiliate rev. from this. I'll buy the Movo if the Diety D4 mini doesn't hold up.
This video was the Movo VXR10 original. I've made a bunch of videos about the Pro. Thanks!
This genius! Thanks!!!
This was a very helpful video. Thank you!
Wow it sure makes a big difference..can I do this with the Movo VX10..usually I just place it on top of my Canon M50. Also can I use the same set up for going live?
As long as your HDMI capture card also transmits audio from the camera, then yes!
amazing man, thank you so much
Awesome video, I'm glad I found your channel.
Dope video. Well done. Cheers!
Great video thank you!
Would like to see a picture from the side showing where the computer is, and the camera, and the mic stand.
Good job buddy thanks 👍
Great review
Thanks for the video!
Would you be able to possibly do an updated version of this video for podcasts? Or….if I have a two-person sitting podcast and want to use the floor standing mic stands using the Samson Q2U usb mics, would I need the same TRS connections/cords to connect to an audio connector?

@@AudioforContentCreators No one likes an over acheiver...
Hi I am from Sri Lanka
This is very good video thank you for making the video
Could you tell me what the mic that you have used in this video.
5:55 Giggity!
Hi Brian, such an informative video! Thanks :)
Could you recommend an overhead microphone stand that can be attached to a desk? I would like to make this setup on my standing desk
so helpful👌
What extension cable would you suggest for me to use as a boom mic? Male to Male or VC1 extension?
Thank you so much, new subbie tfs
Do i miss it, watched the entire video but don't think you mentioned what mic you were using?
Man, great presentation. I do not see the microphone listed in the gear. Can you post a link to the mic?
You're a boss.
Guys, just buy the tripod. You have there screw and you can put your micro with one round motion and then use this screw to tight this up
