There is this drifting team in Finland that is running a diesel Mercedes as their drift car (black smoke racing is the name of the team)

Seeing the American truck with the euro trucks just makes you realise how big our cabovers actually are
Yes. American truckers certainly live a better life when they're not actually driving. They have a full-size apartment available at all times.
@@HGSolbergits not that Bad for the Euro trucks they have a big bed and sometimes even a cabin up top
scania V8 with manual gearbox. very hard to beat of the mark. You can race cars when empty 😊
Years ago I drove a 143 400 dump truck occasionally. Thing was clapped out and wouldn't win even a snail on a quarter mile. Still it just ran and ran until it was sold to th next user. 124 460 I drove more often was a beast unloaded. It had 3 over 3 manual with a splitter.
For over 35years ago I drove a Scania 143 450, til 70km/h I beat almost every car when I was without trailer!
But to say you can race against race cars???
I bet I can still be quicker with my old manual gear, than the modern truck with automatic, the only thing is the comfort is better for driver nowadays!
That green/white FH16 Volvo in first round have bit under 1000hp and it still hauling cargo every Day. Its my friends old truck and now its still near me. Was the most powerful daily working truck in finland in that time.
This was awesome. I live over 400 km from Kauhava, but it would have been cool to be there. It says in the description of the video that they were normal street legal trucks that had to have a valid certificate of vehicle inspection and a valid traffic insurance (with some exceptions like a few American and hobby trucks). The distance was 1000 feet or a little over 300 meters, and the loads they were "dragging" were 60 metric tons (tractor-trailer) and 44 metric tons (semi-trailer).
Scania V8 produces a FANTASTIC sound!!!!..... here in the Netherlands there are (THANK GOD!!!) stil quite some naughty individuals risking a fine by producing the nicest mechanical music you will here in our streets when they open the valve in the exhaust....
Gooseskin and thumbs up guaranteed....
@@henktulp4400 I live near the motorway A76 and always enjoy when a Scania V8 with open pipe takes the driveway and accelerates up to speed.

I gave him thumbs up,he waived with his left hand and breefly blew the airhorn.....AND STEPPED ON IT!!!!..... more MUSIC!!!!

7:40 - The Freightliner probably has a weaker frame since the weight limits are lower in the US than in Sweden/Finland. So to pull as much cargo as possible in the US then there are a lot of things on US trucks you don't see on the Swedish/Finnish trucks. Sliding tandems aren't common in Sweden and the lower weight limits in the US also means smaller engines that are lighter.
What are the weight limits actually in US? I always forget.
Europe generally
5 axles - 40 tons
6 axles - 48 tons
7 axles vary, I believe, 56 in Denmark
8 axles (2 trailers) 60 tons. Restricted roads in Denmark.
And Finland test 9 axles, right? What is that limit?
@@griffencph-2 nine axles and at least 60% of the axles with twin tyres, it's 76tons. you can have up to 12 axles, but the weight stays at 76 tons.
2:25 it probobly have wheel spin, its not that hard to get wheel spin on a truck, even with decent load when its wet out. Most trucks (well pretty much all modern) have anti spin function. With out that, they would get wheel spin all the time. Remember, even if you have 10 tons on the driving axle, the total weight of the truck may easily be 60 tons, and that is maybe 600-700HP with ample gear reduction. So you get all those horsepowers at pretty much any speed.
4:34 Both this 1½ unit truck and the truck just before it is the same weight. Just that the gravel truck is a bit more compact. Pretty much just take the number of axles and multiply by 8 tons. (footnote, one axle can carry 10 tons, and in special cases up to 12, but typical configuration is 8 tons per axle)
5:47 that is a mid 70s volvo N series. N series use to be pretty common until trucks in general reach maximum length. Prior to say the mid 80s, in Sweden it was already than 24 meter limit. The thing is that prior to the 80s there was simply no truck that could pul a fully loaded 24 meter load. So N type truck was pretty common. When power increased the F style become more popular, and during the 90s N style truck was only produced dump trucks. Then they just stop producing it becasue the market become to small (N=hood unit, F= font cab)
This trucks must been tuned as crazy, it probobly just had like 200 or 250 hp original.
8:45 the american truck does got a longer frame, so it will be more susceptible to bending. but i also kind of think that the frame is not as strong, because its only supporting the cab, and no load. Also, interesting how low the american truck is. It looks like the cab is a full meter more down to the ground.
I wouldn´t say the american trucks are set up for efficiency, rather speed. Euro trucks are typically just alowed to go 80km/h (90 and 100 in some special cases).. While the speed limit for trucks in USA is mostly between 110 and 130km/h. So really quite a lot faster.
A European truck will carry much more load the same distance for a given amount of fuel, but it will take more time to get there. So i would for sure say that a European truck are more efficient, but slower. This if to a degree of set by sort of relay trucking that is fairly common for long haul trucking in Europe. that is that you take one set of trailers, drive say 4½ hour north, then put the trailer in a parking, get a other set of trailer, go 4½ south. Than a other dude does the same up north, and yet a other down south.,
This is also often combined with RORO ferries that is very common in northern Europe So for instance if a set of trailers need to go from Say Berlin to Trondheim. They will typically not take the bridge, but rather put the trailers in a ferry terminal and have it go with very over night to be transported by a other driver in Norway. (this is not universal, there is a wide mix of trailers that go by them self and trailers that go with there tractor truck.
10:49 to give it perspective. The wooden trailer alone weigh more than the full american truck with BOTH truck and trailer combined.
i think that the truck at 2:25 just killed is clutch or his transmission on the axle, at the start having wheel spin is usual yes, but once you get in the long gears, if you are loaded in a straight line the road must be really bad to get wheel spin. and the fact that at the end of the run he was revving each time he tried to accelerate, i think the cluctch was dead. I personnaly owned a v8 scania so yeah i know that truck. other possibility , it s well known on the scanias (less with last models with traction control)that the the axle connecting the wheel to the differential is pretty fragile and may be broken if tortured.
That _diagonal_ line with the volvo logo was a brilliant branding move, really. As you say, you instantly recognize a Volvo car or truck. :)
You should really do a take on typical EU diesels btw. Like the 320D, 525D/530D/535D (M47/57 N47/57), Mercedes OM605/606 and V6 diesels, the good old 1.9-2.0TDI, 2.5TDI, the V10 TDI, Peugeot-Citroen-Fords 1.6 and 2.0HDi, Renaults 1.5 and 1.9 DCI... in fact all the really common diesel engines over here :D
And the 1.6 diesel Mini's by BMW. Small car - with diesel torque = really fun - that would astonish Americans.

4:08 that trailer configuration is a real life thing. You can see trailers like that every day in Sweden and Finland and I believe even in norway and denmark but I'm not 100% sure about norway and denmark so for those two countrys I leave a questionmark on that but I'm 100% sure when it comes to sweden and finland. I've even seen trucks from finland pulling 3 trailers
That Volvo at 4:56 is awesome. It has a big advantage over the others: the truck itself is heavily loaded, which is good for grip. It doesn't matter anymore that it is also hauling some 30 tons of logs, grip will be there. Compared to the first Scania having loads of wheelspin, the Volvo did a better job. Also gear ratios and having an automatic or not will make a big difference in this drag race.
Lots of Scania V8's here, really nice :)
Yes, they probably got a bit of wheelspin on the runway like you guessed, I was watching Trucker Tim's video of when he got a new map for his truck (I Tuned My SCANIA V8 Into A WEAPON ) and on the way home he got wheelspin at 56 mph! He filmed his dashboard and you could see the Traction Control light flickering when the driving wheels was spinning.
Don't forget to visit Finland too during your European visit!!!
Cheers / B.
Came here to suggest Trucker Tim, his truck is badass.
@@andyman286 - Agree on that!!! If IWRocker ever comes to Europe he sure must meet up with Tim in the UK.

On the whole suspension deal, you'll notice most of the euro cabovers have their cabs bouncing freely relative to the chassis, so you'll often see the cab itself move around a lot on those
You are right and I stand corrected, and you know what, I know it to be true, I must of had a brain fart. Sorry.
Yep. Most modern cabovers have the whole cab mounted on springs and shocks onto the frame.

The gear box is just as important here as the engine. Truck optimised for heavy cargo are usually slow off the line because they have many gears down low. You could hear one of the first trucks staying in every gear for just 1 second before shifting up. It had to shift like 18 times till the end.

Here’s a comment of an ol’ trucker from far across deep blue waters.
Drag racing shows with heavy loads are not unusual over here, and it sure makes fun to see them burn the tarmac.
I really love your reaction on this one, and I share your thoughts about dragging Amy versus Euro trucks.
But it will be hard to compare, because they are built for different reasons, different landscape and different economic purposes.
Anyway … I’d love to see them compete somewhere !!!
Many greets from The Netherlands-Europe (Holland, where DAF comes from)
video tip: "Power of Sweden - Scania rules the truck world" (wheelies) and "Scania V8 The Sound Of Heaven Drar Tungt" (sound) and the straight eight "Scanias raka 8:a på 11 liter mot Scanias V8 på 16 liter. Mullar fint:)" and "Scania rak 8 från 1952"
"Was that a diesel Mercedes" Only one of the most common cars (referring to all diesel Mercs, not just S211) in Finland :D
also.. the sound, oh yes, it just makes you warm to the skin.. it's because the trucks are born with a catalytic filter on the the exhaust to remove some exhaust particles.. if they remove it, they get that cool sound
08:40 Gotta love those older cabovers.
As others have said some of these cabs have there own suspension in relation to the chassis to give the driver a smoother ride. That 'rocking' can also be because of the power these things have. These trucks are 'Rolling Coal' so that improves torque but the horse power levels mean there is a huge amount of torque being generated. The combination of that and the inline layout of the engine/chassis creates an effect called Torque Twist where the whole truck twists sometimes actually lifting a front wheel off the ground. An Extreme example of this is 'Truck and Tractor Pulling'. Those beasts generate enough torque to literally Snap chassis rails.
5:41 At this point, the presenter said:"30.1 seconds, that's a new time record!" 😂
Old is gold, amen!!
11:10 These Scanias are called "Torpedo"
Looked like a Mack cabover in the background too, American trucks do sell in Europe but they’re not always an everyday sight. The Kenworth K100 series was popular in the 1980s. In the UK many US trucks end up as wreckers or for very heavy haulage loads of 100 tons or more.
The few american trucks I see, are mostly show trucks (I live in Denmark).
Because og our length restrictions, longhoods are only good for heavy loads, since you need a shorter semi. We can only be 16.5 meters (just over 54 feet) end-to-end for semi setup. Truck and full trailer can be 18.75 m (61f 6i). Doubles 25.25 m (82f10i).
Use to run a few scanias, 480. To 730 bhp, all cab overs, strait 6 and v8s thing is double drive, rear lift, mid lift, centre steer, basically so many set ups. Makes a big difference on traction.
One of our best trucks was a 480 daf 95 serise 2 axle single drive.
Basically set up matters.
love the Aussie stuff in the background. best regards from Germany
And the nicest is that these are worktrucks instead of showtrucks💪
the Scania at 2.20 has a broken clutch after the pull. If i am not mistaking, the diesel mercedes in the beginning is from Pekka Herlevi, and has around 600hp on diesel.
the scania at 6.20, the black one, is also from the Herlevi family, and they are also running Tractorpulling with some valtra prostocks. The Scania has a performance of 960hp and for racing probably more.
There's no better sound then a Scania V8 straight pipe !!!
I love the classis 3-series Scania build from 1989 to 1996 !!!

I've had the pleasure of experience days in 2 EU trucks, a Volvo and a Renault, and they were both amazing to drive. Both very comfortable and easy. Regrettably both autos. One day I'll get to drive a manual EU. Also have driven a Peterbilt the same day as the Volvo. That was.... Interesting.
That turbo whine!! Like crack!
1:16 diesel, like 90% of all Mercedes/BMW/Audi cars currently on the road :D
8:31 the right term of that truck twisting its frame is called torque twisting
Wow, I had never seen this being done in Europe, that was so cool! I'm familiar with the event done here in Quebec called "Rodeo du Camion" which you can search videos of, if you haven't already seen them before, but it's basically the same concept of drag races with loaded trucks in a small town. For the chassis twist, I don't know, it's related to torque but I suppose it might have to do with the different chassis build, being that in Europe the truck is shorter. I'd be curious to know too.
We got the idea from Quebec, there was one finn racing there years ago with his Kenworth, he lives in Canada
The Quebec ones are what I think I've seen on CZcams, are they the ones that close off a town street?
@@robertleeimages yes, where the people are standing on the sidewalk, right next to where the trucks race
The longer the chassis, the easier it twists. Also from what I've seen, the chassis on North American trucks is not as strong as European trucks
The bending of the us truck maybe is because us cabs not air suspended when driving on bumpy roads.
Diesel station wagons (Mercedes, BMW and Audi's) are pretty common in Europe.
Scania R560 V8 and R620 V8 sounds so good

I took my truck+Trailer licence on one of those V8 Scanias with 700 hp and an unloaded trailer.
It was one of the most uncomfortable rides I've ever had.
It kicked like a frikkin mule then took 5 seconds to shift gears before kicking my ass again...rinse and repeat.
It's probably really nice when hauling something else then sailboat fuel around, but unloaded it was far from nice.
That Brraaarrrr BAM Bam you're hearing sounds like they're double clutching
Hi everyone. In Finland max truck and trailer length is 34.5 meters and in fet 115. In Sweden truck and trailer is allowed to be 24 meters approximate 80 ft.
25,25 meters has been the limit in Sweden for a very long time...
You really should look up truck racing on circuits.
My dad is a truckmechanic so I grow up going to the yearly truck races on the zolder circuit. He got tickets every year as the shop he works at was a sponsor for the event. It's amazing to see these trucks go over the track, especially since zolder isn't an easy track, lots off crashes have happend there.
the old orange truck is a terberg, heavy duty volvo edition made in the netherlands
In Funland theres 34,5 meter trucks on the roads with 76 metric tons. Normal without special permits is 60-74 metric tons, depending on axle count, with 25,25meters in length.
I love the turbo spooling sounds.
Hey man. Ive driven a variety of european trucks and to be honest with traction control on they still wheelspin. Alot of scania and volvo drivers get tuning from greece! Gives you more power and torgue plus with a straight pipe or 2 lots of nice noise!
No no sorry, you are not completely right, the reason why many get the tuning from the Greece is because of stock the trucks are limited of 90km/h, with our digital electronic tacho system will registratie everything on the truck!
Every truck garage is not allowed to mess with this electronic because they need to registratie as well what they are doing!
So when they going to Greece they get rid of the speed limiter, because the Greece don’t give about laws and justice!
Straight pipes is also not good for you’re horse power you will loose around 50till 75horsepower!
Yes you can chiptuning the truck, but the problem is that the truck can taken away from you because it’s not roadworthy anymore, and the fines it wil cost can lead to the end of the company!
For tuning we don’t need Greece the Scandinavian people knows the best but like in every country you have specialist!
My experians is 35years of trucking trough whole Europe and beyond, and personally I don’t like those new trucks with Al that electronic shit what is fragile, and dousn’t work properly when the truck is one year or older!
The Clutch is death..😮😊

The US truck can be seen in Europe, while the Euro truck is almost not existent in the US.
However, the US truck is not the choice for big fleet owners, most of them are owned by one man companies and used for transport of dense goods where a smaller trailer will hold the maximum allowed load like dumpers or log transporters.
As Finland and Sweden allow longer trucks they may be a bit more common there, the extra length of the tractor unit not limiting the size of a trailer when a single trailer is hauled.
Don't forget that while in the US only the length of the trailer is limited in Europe the total length of a tractor-trailer unit is limited, so a longer tractor means a shorter trailer which can be hauled.
Euro truck-trailers are heavier in general, while the US has the general 80,000lbs limit which is about 36 metric tonnes, the Euro truck can have a max weight of 45-60 tonnes depending on country.
