im not so sure mate. its great dont get me wrong but its just too unwieldy on the the roads. the 996 you can prolly gun it around and unwind it without the fear of it kicking out all the time.
Hi Jon, Im a fellow M4CS owner and I am completely with you on the weight topic. I like the new m2 and test drove it recently, felt heavier and more comfortable/luxurious but these are exactly the opposite characteristics that I want from an M car. The only car I would replace the M4CS with is a M4CSL of the new generation but then you are talking 100k, close to GT Porsche money + it has 2 seats + has an ugly front design (sorry I wont jump on the "it grew on me'" train). In terms of the value, I won't sell it because frankly there is nothing in the under 50k bracket that compares to this, the only other car I would consider is a KF8 type R but then again its a different experience with its front wheel drive. I have a feeling this will be a classic in 40 years time amongst the 3 ton electric giants.
Had my M4 for 5 years now and like yourself have toyed with the idea of changing it,it’s an occasional weekend car now and when you get in for a blast after not had driven it for a while you you forget how bloody quick these things are scares the life out of you!!!! Keep and enjoy in good health Jon😊
I’m in north east Scotland and quickly learned that I needed a big adjustment come white stuff time,so bought a set of cheap alloys and good winter tyres and it was really pretty good in the snow!!! With it being a weekender now just leave it in the garage over the winter now👍
Read it yesterday : we're switching back to the smaller sizes. Also the strategy of Tesla to lower the prices in Europe because if taxes etc.. Volkswagen is struggling. Mercedes doesn't get their expensive trash sold. The ID3 is sitting on the parking lots, +9000 units. The list goes on.
I sold my Honda S2000 and bought an M4 convertible, At first I thought I made a big mistake but one evening , I took it out scalp in sport plus mode on a few twisty roads and it all made sense
not sure what you mean by destroys. Its a lot faster. But the porsche is way more exilerating and engaging to drive. The porka could be a money pit yes who knows :) but to be fair it was a bargain. The M4cs will plummet in value but the porky will prolly rise.
@@ForensicDetailing I can't see the CS plummeting in value, due to the very high spec your car is, plus the fact that only 200 of these came into the UK (that's 198 plus yours and mine). The CS out accelerates, brakes and handles and basic Carrera hands down. The problem I have is where do I go after the CS without spending £150k to achieve not much more performance.
@@ForensicDetailingcorrect Jon. It’ll go 45k to 25k-30k in a quick feeling 3-5 years. And the Porker will only cost maintenance. No residual loss. I’d defo release the cash in the CS.
How fast do you want to go though and who are you competing with? If you value straight line speed over feedback that’s fine but you’re quickly into “ban” territory in this country. Different strokes for different folks though and if it’s a daily car then I can see why you’d go modern. As a weekend toy though, a new BMW doesn’t really cut it.
I'm fortunate to have a few performance cars with a M3 Comp being my daily driver. I've had it for 4yrs now and tbh, it's one of the best cars I've ever owned. Normally I would have swapped out by now for something different, but it's staying for a few more years. I'd understand totally if you kept the M4 CS!
Brilliant cars, have an m2 comp and have much the same feelings. Have millway street camber plates on mine and they work wonderfully and so far no noise or issues just better steering feel and more camber!
I put a M2 CS tune on my M2 Comp, its a monster, can’t wait to take it on the track. There isn’t really any competitors to the S55 engine paired with the DCT soo much performance for the money and in a classy coupe 😎
I’m with you John. Obviously newer cars wipe the floor with old ones. Who knew? But they’re just boring and clinical. Give me feedback and character any day over outright power and lap times. It’s just pub bragging rights. Get rid of the modern snooze fest and concentrate on the old ones. 👍🏻 Also I hate driving modes and sport buttons. Just make the car the best it can be and give me it. Analog rules. If anything try a 996/997 GT3.
I dont like the colour, dont like the stripped out interior but LOVE the car! And that steering wheel! Its been brilliant value for £££ too! And I guess that has to come into the equation for us all. Does its value shelf where it is or drop over the the next few years? But more than anything else you love this car. And who wouldn't.
HI Jon, Great video.👍 I love all three of your motors, I don't think I would sell any of them. Another benefit of carbon brakes is the reduction in unsprung weight, which has a positive effect on vehicle dynamics. That would probably be my primary reason for having them. One of my favourite cars was a phase 2 Saxo VTS. I bought it from new and is the only car I left completely standard. A great daily and sooooo much fun hooning around my favourite roads. I just ran it and ragged it. Always put a smile on my face. My only regret is........ I sold it.
Had an F80 M3 Comp, traded it in for an F90 M5 and do I regret it? Possibly but at the time it felt right but I do miss the M3. It was just an absolute machine! Sooo much power! Yeah, the M5 was more powerful with more refinement etc but just a different car altogether. The M5 was sold and we made enough from it to pay for a holiday! But that was 2 years ago when prices were crazy and it was the right thing to do. We now have a MK7.5 Golf GTI TCR as a daily and have a MK2 Focus RS tucked away for the weekends 👍🏻
@@ForensicDetailing I’m with you mate 👍 I bet you can have to have the car coded to be set to your desired default setting (and stays in that setting as default on start up) I coded all my bm’s Iv ever owned with a Carly OBD2 using the Carly app on my phone. Epic cars no doubt but far too powerful to enjoy properly in my opinion. Ive lusted after an M2 for years but am not willing to part with my Elise just yet. Chop them all in for a Cayman GT4.
Always found the M4 very fast and very capable - but utterly devoid of character and fun! The 996 on the other hand, not particularly fast by todays standards, pretty poor build quality, but a real drivers car with a delightful, communicative chassis and a wonderful soundtrack.
We know you won’t stay with 2 cars. I say E46 a keeper for good. Keep the Porsche, track it a bit and let it appreciate. Sell the M4 CS and get something else 👌(an E46 M3 again!)
RCF Lexus had a month. Far far too minty fresh. Low car low carbon splitters. Hard park not catch. Sold it 6 weeks later. It’s hard work having nice cars. End of. Something to be said of a beater and a classic
