  • Nystagmus is often congenital, but can be acquired later in life.
Individuals with Nystagmus are unable to voluntarily control their eye movements. These movements often make it difficult for the center part of vision (macula) to develop and therefore, vision and depth perception is reduced. It can then affect balance and coordination. These involuntary eye movements can occur from side to side, up and down, or in a circular pattern.
