The Ex-GF's Inconsistencies - NY v. Jonathan Majors | Trial Day 4 Recap

  • On December 4, 2023, NY v. Jonathan Majors kicked off with opening statements and its first witness testimony. This is the recap of Day 4 of this trial, which includes testimony from Grace Jabbari, the ex-girlfriend and alleged victim in this case.
    FOR CONTEXT:
New York prosecutors allege that on March 24, 2023, actor Jonathan Majors physically assaulted his then-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari in the back seat of a hired driver's car before throwing her back into the car after she tried to get out. Jabbari says that as a result of this altercation, she suffered a fractured right middle finger, a cut to her right ear, and bruising to her head. Majors, on the other hand, disputes the characterization of the altercation: he says she attacked him, and that he suffered scratches on his face and body as a result, and that he threw her into the car so he could get away from her before she tried chasing him down on the streets of New York.

I think it's messy and regardless of the outcome, this could damage his career. Too much being revealed during this trial, such as text, video, audio, etc. also some of his co workers have also come out and called him toxic. The question many have is will Disney keep him as Kang in the MCU. I doubt he will be going to jail.

What i don't understand is she said she passed out in bathroom after she puked in bed, but texted her friend 13 minutes before police arrived. Plus she testified that she heard JM trip over a suitcase..... how did she hear that if she was passed out? The whole staged photo and candle being lit for him to find. It doesn't add up.
Sounds like she did all of that, that morning hoping JM would stay with her, but he called the police and it ruined her "attempted un-aliving" scenario.

I'm starting to think this is a case of a woman with a substance abuse issue she's unwilling to face, who has no real idea what happened that night but would 100% rather believe her BF attacked her than believe that she's so far gone she could injure herself so seriously by accident. We haven't even heard from him yet, so for there to be so much doubt this early in the trial. . . . I don't know what truly happened between them but I don't think he's going to be found guilty.

"substance abuse issue she's unwilling to face" kinda makes sense cause imo waking up after a wild night of drinking with a scratch/bruise/injury you don't remember isn't really a big deal. It helps to have friends around to refresh your memory of how your drunks ass ran straight into a lamppost thinking it was the love of your life last night, but sometimes we don't have those friends around to help so you just have to chalk it up to you being a drunk idiot the night before and move on.

She's telling us that she was conscious and could hear everything that was going on, that she was alert and aware that Majors had just walked into the room, and was attempting to play on his emotions so that he wouldn't break up with her. I really think in this case it’s the police and ADA that seems to want to push this case and the DA who green-lit it. One of the reasons Jabbari might be going along is because they dropped her charges and her cooperation in this case might be what was required for that to happen. But this case is super bizarre the prosecution’s witnesses seem to be more beneficial to the defense in a lot of cases during the proceedings. Why wasn’t this case dismissed is the bigger question.

This is a warning of how getting the law involved in your relationship can become a huge hassle. Reality seems to be that these were 2 ppl in a standard "toxic" relationship. Seems at some point in London they had an argument and he tried to play a "I'll end it if u leave me" card. Possibly playing on her issues with a past relationship. She seems to have an alcohol abuse problem that he wants her to get help for....some kind of fight took place but they fixed it. Then when the break up is on other foot she tried to play the same "end it if u leave me" card, but he believed it when he arrived and called the police after seeing the spilled pills and candle/picture....meanwhile she was in the closet texting her friend faking it....but now the police are here asking questions and no one knows what to do.....probably could have talked this all out and left the public out of it had they not called the police for their silly break up drama.
Now they're in court and no one wants to say what's what out of ego and fear of public reaction. Should have been dropped but when the police show up reality doesn't matter, only what they report.

Your point stands true though. But I don’t understand why you state it in some kind of neutral manner like it’s both of their missteps to want the police involved. I’m sure he didn’t want the police involved, it’s usually the non-black man who, intentionally or not, uses the racist power and threat of police to try to get what they want out of a situation. @@gemini3399 Those weren't mistakes in the police report. Those were intentional lies to try to stick a charge on Majors. But I agree with the sentiment that the police bear a huge responsibility in terms of things going this far with something so evidently erroneous. The police and DA can initially charge and then later determine there's nothing here. They did it with the strangulation charge because there isn't a shred of evidence to even pretend to support it. The rest of the evidence is still so bad, that against a lighter skinned man, they'd have probably dropped the case unless maybe Grace herself was pressing the issue and influential enough.

I feel that she forced his hand by doing too good of a job pretending to delete herself. Imagine if she actually did overdose and he did nothing to get her help, he’d still be in trouble. He did his best by taking her threat seriously enough to go check on her. When he realized she locked herself in a room and wasn’t responding to him, he got a witness to unlock the door for him. When she still didn’t respond, he had good reason to believe her life was in danger and had to call the police.
I think GJ lied to police because she was too embarrassed to admit the truth and maybe thought she could leverage the situation into getting him to stay.

When he tried to get away from her, she chased him; this to me appears as clingy and obsessive behavior when she later got the text from him saying it was over, she may have threatened suicide, went into his apartment, took the sleeping pills, most likely an attempt to scare him, but he did the right thing by calling the police when the police got there and she said “what happened I heard all over did he do this to me?” Paints the picture of an attempted set up. She was angry, and this was an attempt to ruin his career. Case closed.

Great recap it definitely seems the defense was able to catch the small details that will make a sound decision for the jury to take into consideration. However the trial isn’t over and due to the balanced reporting and due diligence I’m sure there will be a fair and just outcome. If today is any example of what the outcome will be it’s sad for any human to lie on another person regarding something as serious as this DV. I am a survivor myself of childhood trauma and DV as an adult and when untruths are told at any level of a case like this it harms others like me and so many. Thanks for the overview we will keep our ear to you for next steps.

I actually have less of a problem with her using her hand throughout the evening. It does seem like she was drinking quite a bit, and alcohol can definitely reduce/numb pain.
Based on what I’ve heard, she could very well be an alcoholic. People with addictions generally hide and downplay their consumption. And that could explain a lot of the issues with things she’s said and her behavior on the stand. The random “adrenaline” makes less sense to me, but sounds like something an addict might latch onto to hide addiction (or out of denial for it).
Alcoholism/addiction could also explain her reaction to seeing the body cam footage because seeing herself in that state could bring up all sorts of emotions connected to her use and contradict any “it’s not a problem” excuses she may tell herself to avoid the reality of her situation. Shame and denial often go hand-in-hand with addiction.
I think that’s why I tend to think her story is plausible (though plausible shouldn’t be the bar for conviction). Or at the very least, I think she might believe what she’s saying.
I really wish there was video of this trial.

...as a S.A. survivor, I couldn't imagine chasing down my abuser to "be with him,," the reason why she's having difficulty remembering is because she manufactured her story. I don't doubt that your analysis of her alcohol abuse and consequent denial of what's been played out before her very eyes, her faulty memory, and not wanting to have her embarrassing behavior exposed for the courtroom to see has merit, but all of her preceeding behavior, her aggression towards Mr. Major and her unwillingness to leave him alone tells a completely different story. This woman is not a victim. At least not at his hands. She is reckless and irresponsible, and she is a white woman who understands the power and influence of her accusations and tears, particularly against a black man in America. This is a woman who fully expects to be exonerated solely on the basis of that fact alone. Truth be damned! Any reasonable person who has the capacity to be objective in judging the evidence in this case can only conclude one thing, that Grace Jabari is not telling the truth about what happened to her on March 25th, 2023.

There is also a thing some manipulative women do, which is to start crying to attempt to distract others when they are caught in a lie. The description of her reaction seemed to trigger memories of women I have known doing this, and there were a lot of similarities. I'm not saying this is what happened, only that it feels suspicious.
Certain drugs will raise your adrenaline. Maybe she took some and was trying to not say she did, or maybe she was slipped something and only recognized it as adrenaline, or maybe she was saying adrenaline when in fact she knew it was the alcohol, or maybe she avoids confronting herself about her drinking so much that she ignores the signs of being drunk and uses different terms for it. I'm seen all these happen before, so without more context, I'm not sure we can know for sure what actually went on. What we DO know is that alcohol was involved and that she blacked out from it.

I don't feel bad for her. Not one bit. When you drink to excess of your own volition, you need to see what you look like to others. Look, you don't need to be in the health field to know if you fracture even the tip of your damn finger that the pain alone would deter you. Anyone who has broken any bone will know that the inflammation aka swelling and pain would prevent you from performing very detailed movements. Adrenaline be damned. If you have NOT STABILIZED that fracture aka gotten medical treatment for it, you will wince, you will flinch, you WILL be very protective of the area and not want to use it. Hell, anything so much as grazes it you'll be irritable as hell. I'm a nurse at bedside and care for people with fractures of various degrees so I will definitely double down on this. Also, speaking of wounds, her ear wound is suspicious as hell. Because of the location and the specific reach you'd need, the likelihood of another person creating it is way low. Even if she fell she'd have wounded herself on the outside of her ear and around it before she'd have such a jagged wound in the inner back crease like that. Wow...and when the cops were there why did she in fact suggest HE did something. If I'm surrounded my cops I feel like my reflex would be to say, what happened, why do I hurt and did I do something wrong (rather than did HE do something wrong).
