    Kansas City has a huge underground tunnel complex that is essentially a city itself called sub tropolis. 55,000,000-square-foot (5,100,000 m2) has a grid of 16-foot-high (4.9 m), 40-foot-wide (12 m) tunnels separated by 25-foot-square (7.6 m) limestone pillars, that contains almost 10.5 miles (16.9 km) of illuminated, paved roads and several miles of railroad.
    There are businesses operating there because of the climate/temperature/humidity control where the temp doens't vary much more than 5 degrees all year round.

    Kathleen's brother was beaten to death. From what we know of KC FEDRA, they probably put him on display. And he wasn't just her brother. When she was back in her room, they said they found her by talking to her mother,, which means she witnessed her mother losing her kid. And Bryan, when he was begging for his like to Joel, said his mother was nearby and she could could help them. Kathleen was the only woman we apsaw and certainly the only one with any power to help Joel & Ellie at that point, so Bryan was most likely Kathleen's son. So she just watched her kid die the day before. That's why the the line, "kids die all the time." Joel was actually wrong. The guy in the house didn't have shit aim. He was intentionally missing because Kathleen wanted them kept there until she got there. From Kansas City to Cody, Wyoming, it is roughly 135km (980 miles) by road. It's about a 15 hour drive. They are both in good shape and used to walking. Figure they should be able to do that in under 1 month, depending on conditions.

    • @Fangtorn
      @Fangtorn Před 7 měsíci +5

      Nah, Bryan wasn't Kathleen's son. There's no reason to think that, there were plenty of other women we saw among the rebels and Kathleen never mentions or acts as if she just lost her child. If that was the case they would've made it explicit.

    • @frozenharold
      @frozenharold Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@Fangtorn @Fangtorn Bryan says his mom isn't far off and if they get him to her they could trade with them. How many people there would have the power to make the decision to trade with them and let them go? Where were these plenty of other women? He said she was close by. I saw maybe 1. And if she was close, where was she when Bryan was dying in the street? Just milling about, 20 ft away with the other rebels? The only woman who checks on him is Kathleen. She almost breaks both when she asks if he will live and what if she had a doctor, but then sucks it up in front of her people because she is their leader. She then immediately turn and foes back and kills the doctor without a word. A man who, first and foremost is a doctor in the apocalypse. He is also someone she is pretty sure knows where Henry and Sam are. She just left him alive a few moments earlier after thinking it through, do you think she turned right around and stormed back to kill him without a word because he wouldn't be able to save a random guy? The other rebels know who he is. She doesn't have to stand there and say he's her son.

    • @bernardo5217
      @bernardo5217 Před 7 měsíci +2

      @@frozenharold I think you are assuming things wrong. If Bryan was Kathleen's son, they would have said it explicitly. I mean, you see that Kathleen is devastated by the death of her brother, and full of anger, but she sees her son killed by randoms and doesn't look at the body for even 4 seconds. She doesn't even make the gesture of going to see him more closely. Do you really think that's the reaction of a mother to see her son murdered? Furthermore, they don't give you clues to think about it that way.
      Bryan says his mother is nearby, but why does it have to be Kathleen? In fact, they take Bryan's body by car to where Kathleen is. Therefore, you no longer know how close Kathleen was to where the shootout with Joel was. In fact, think about it, Kathleen was in the operations center, let's say, of her armed force. She was with many people around,Do you think Joel and Ellie were in a shooting and there were all those people next to them and they didn't go after them? They were very far away, well, in fact, Henry was hiding next to Joel, and do you think Henry was going to stay next to all the people who are looking for him?
      Bryan was in his last moments, and he told Joel about his mother because yes, he will have a mother, and she will be in town, and he said that he can help them out of simple desperation. You must think he's about to be killed,And she kills the doctor so we can see that she is a bad leader, just like when Perry tells her to take care of the problem with the shaking ground, she says no, later...That's to see that she is not thinking straight.
      Bryan is not Kathleen's son, it just doesn't make sense. I mean, Bryan begins to scream in his last moments: "Mom! Mom!" and then his mother sees him dead and simply says, "can he live?" -"No'. And she just goes and kills the doctor without any expression, and doesn't mention Bryan again to imply that he's her son at any point.

    • @frozenharold
      @frozenharold Před 7 měsíci

      @@bernardo5217 "They take Bryan's body by car to where Kathleen is." So, you think this is something they have done with everytime someone fighting in a rebellion against FEDRA got wounded? Drove them to wherever Kathleen was so she could see them personally? Or, was maybe this a special case for some reason? Some reason they felt the need to notify her personally and immediately. Also, Kathleen has been hardened by everything she has been through. She is not the lose control of her emotions in front of others type. Especially not in front if those she is supposed to be the leader of. She almost breaks when she asks if he'll live and again when she asks "what if I had a doctoe?" She is having the same response to Bryan's death as her brothers. She is going on a vendetta to kill the person she feels is responsible, and anyone who was with them. Whether they were responsible or not and no matter if they were just children. She mentions Bryan and the man who killed him again when she is back in her old bedroom. Then she mention him yet again to Henry as a reason she can't let Ellie go. She doesn't even mention her brother then. "No, the girl was with the man who killed Bryan, and well, Sam is with you."

    • @bernardo5217
      @bernardo5217 Před 7 měsíci +2

      @@frozenharold But they are going to show the body to the leader, I repeat, to the leader. They had already defeated PHAEDRA. They see dead bodies, and wonder who it could have been. In fact, Kathleen thinks those outsiders might have been called in by Henry. You say that Kathleen leaves so they don't see her burst into tears or something, and you literally don't see that at any time.Kathleen Literally Looks Like She Gives a Shit About Dead Bodies He simply asks if he can live with a doctor, they say no. She simply says: "the killers may be with Henry, find any collaborators and kill them all." That's it, there's no clue that Bryan is his son. But what you're saying doesn't make any sense, because then you see Kathleen talking about her brother in a very personal way to Perry, starting to cry. She talks about her brother, and her mother, and they killed her son hours ago and she doesn't say anything? It shows that Bryan was simply a random member of his group who was trying to ambush people. Bryan talks about his mother, but it's not like Kathleen was the only woman in Kansas City 💀

  • @clover2739
    @clover2739 Před 7 měsíci +3

    They did a good job of making this heartbreaking as the game, especially with the shorter amount of time you spend with Henry and Sam in the show in comparison to the game. It ended the same way but they changed things with Henry and Sam’s character which I think help makes it devastating. If you’re planning on playing the game and don’t want to know how it happens in that you can ignore the rest but if you’re curious I’ll explain some of the differences.
    Game wise Sam isn’t deaf and he’s only a year younger than Ellie, so him and Ellie do become close but in a different way, rather than Ellie seeming like an older sister like figure they became friends who would talk a lot, Sam does still look up to Ellie and wants to impress her because he’s more nervous and she always seem so strong. Henry is a lot different as well, the show made him a lot more naive and less violent whereas Henry had the same kind of mindset and survival skills as Joel. In fact, Joel and Henry actually meet up a lot differently since video game wise Joel enters a building hiding from the people and Henry starts beating Joel up, until he sees Ellie who’s a kid and realises Joel isn’t with them since they don’t have kids around. Joel starts attacking him when Henry stops and it’s the same, Joel only stops when Ellie points out Sam who’s pointing a gun at him.
    Henry and Sam’s dynamic is a lot different as well, and I think the show switch up is nice. Game Henry is very strict towards Sam, he won’t really let him be a kid, when Ellie and Sam find a bunch of toys, Sam wants to take a robot figurine in his bag back and Henry says no because it’s a waste of space which is fair enough. But Henry is very strict with Sam throughout which makes Sam feel like he always messes things up and isn’t trusted.
    Unlike with the show you spend hours with Henry and Sam and the tunnel sequence is way longer, that’s a whole level and there’s an interesting sequence where they get split up so Henry is with Ellie and Joel is with Sam, and they can’t get to each other so Joel needs to protect Sam for a bit until they meet up again. I think they might’ve changed Henry’s character to be way more naive to give him a bigger difference to Joel and I think to show that Henry is also pretty young as well, to make sure people don’t mistake him as a dad and show that in ways he’s also a scared kid who has to look after another scared kid. I think Henry trying to run away with Sam is a nod to a part of the game where Henry, Sam and Ellie climb this ladder to escape and the ladder breaks as joel is trying to get out and he’s stuck and Henry grabs Sam and runs away because it shows that Henry’s main priority is Sam, so Ellie jumps down to go with Joel since she obviously won’t leave him. This makes joel see Henry as a traitor and they finally earn his trust and work together again.
    The ending happens almost the same way with Sam being bit, him and Ellie have the same conversation but they’re speaking and you can tell Sam seems angry at himself and he says to Ellie that he feels like he’s always doing things wrong that bothers Henry, the game conversation hurts because Sam keeps trying to get any reassurance with Ellie, asking if she thinks there’s an afterlife or if the person is still aware when infected and Ellie gives the worst answers in that situation since she doesn’t know. Ellie gives Sam the robot figurine that Henry said he couldn’t have because she stole it when they weren’t looking, and unlike in the show Sam doesn’t tell Ellie, so when Ellie walks out he throws the robot figurine away and then reveals the leg. I think both the ways the show and game did it makes sense for the differences in Sam’s character and both are heartbreaking, game Sam is older and sees Ellie differently so is less likely to tell her and I think he is scared to say anything because it confirms he always messes things up and doesn’t know how to break that news to anyone. Whereas game Sam is a lot younger and is more reliant on Ellie, he feels comfortable enough to tell her because she’s like an older sister to him and he wants her to reassure him. I was wondering if the show would show the Sam and Henry storyline properly without backing down and they really did… and as soon as I saw that the made Sam younger and deaf in the show I knew it was going to be extra painful!

    I think what Kathleen meant by "maybe Sam was supposed to die," is that it was his destiny, having such a rare condition and all, to die. Then she questions how saving one person is worth all this. Henry knows he did a "bad guy thing" by choosing to save one person at the cost of everything else, but here he insists that Sam's just a kid. Really makes you think. 🤔

It actually annoys me that you think the writers of this excellent series would waste time and effort secretly laying clues that _actually_ Joel didn't just form a parental bond with a young girl but _actually_ she was his "rEaL" daughter all a long, as if that would mean or change anything except to lessen and cheapen the story.
