  • Trim Healthy Mama’s eating on either end of the fueling spectrum, low-fat E-Meals on one end and low-carb S-Meals on the other end, along with using OptimisingNutrition’s glucose trigger value work beautifully hand-in-hand (bit.ly/3wItok9) to help me maintain my 1984 Wedding Weight. Both ends of the dietary spectrum are effective for weight loss, meaning, a low-fat dietary style (#THM E-Meals) will work, and a low-carb dietary style (#THM S-Meals) will work, whereas combining fats and carbs (#THM XO Crossover Meals) is the way to gain weight during pregnancy and childhood. That’s what I’ve been learning about since 2013 when I was introduced to the Trim Healthy Mama lifestyle. In 2018 my understanding was deepened when I discovered Marty Kendall’s teaching at #OptimisingNutrition about eating from either end of the fueling spectrum, using fats or carbs, but not both if wanting trim down. He writes, “…both low-carb and low-fat camps are successful when they move away from hyper-palatable blends of fat and carbs that are easy to overeat.” And, “Carbs are more inclined to spike your blood sugars initially following a meal, whereas fats are more prone to keeping them elevated for longer.” Separating them helps the body have better glucose and insulin interactions.
It was in 2018 when I discovered Marty Kendall’s blog post about using a glucose meter as a personalized fuel gauge: bit.ly/3qENiKk, and I began learning from his OptimisingNutrition.com blog posts that the nutrients I consume being another key to weight loss. He says, “Your diet doesn’t need a name or a belief system, just enough nutrients.” Did you know that dieta’s Greek root means way of life? If I didn’t want to stick to my 2013 discovery of the THM way of life, I didn’t have to. But I like THM!…all I needed to do was pull back on the 3hr-4hr frequent fueling…after going into menopause because that frequent eating was initiating too many elevated glucose responses and working against me keeping trim. Thankfully I discovered eating by my glucose meter’s feedback which then helped me get back to trim after a two-year struggle with menopausal weight gains. I try to include lots of veggies with every meal, especially green veggies such as the nutritional powerhouse of LEAFY GREENS. A recent study (n.neurology.org/content/90/3/...) published in the Journal of Neurology of almost 1,000 seniors found that those who ate a serving of leafy greens every day, over a span of 4.7 years, were the equivalent of being 11-years younger in brain age!
