I learned to drive in one of those and boy let me tell me you this things is a BEAST ! They are slow but plenty of torque for altitude and hills. I remember my dad and i were on 147 kms trip and that truck overheated 3 times engine got so hot even the starter wouldn’t engage my dad just let it cool down and add water when we finally got the closest city he just replaced the bottom radiator hose and spend many years with no head gasket issues .. this truck was a tank back in the days
I’m looking for something like this in the UK for off road use. Its called the Fourtrak over here. The engine isn’t the most powerful hp wise but has plenty of torque for off road use. I also like the rugged utilitarian look of the vehicle. A cheaper alternative to the Landrover Defender.
Toyota own daihatsu for some time and just rebadge toyotas into daihatsus these days but back when these were made they were not sharing parts with Toyotas and they operated as there own brand. Toyota did end up buying the brand out and then killed off the brand in many countries including australia. Daihatsu did build the Toyota Blizzard for them which was the same vehicle. The same basic shape and design was common in the 80-90's with a few brands.

Can get quite a bit more power just from increasing the fuel on the pump, will bring it up to about the same power as a 200/300TDI
