    I think a lot of people that don't have much experience with birds or have their first birds get very panicked when their birds lose major feathers such as the tail, etc etc. But just know, as long as they're not plucking and it isn't constant,it should be perfectly fine!!!!

    • @Riccothegreenpiedirn
      @Riccothegreenpiedirn  Před 2 lety +2

      Agreed, they usually think that their bird is sick as well because of the change in behaviour and feather loss.

    First molting season with mine (got them around 10 weeks ago) , tough times for sure. My male ringneck who's usually very tame doesn't want anything to do with me most of the day and sometimes attacks me if i get close, female still cuddly as for now. Hope it gets better with time and is really only hormonal. People here having similar experiences? Scared of losing my great bond if i can't interact with him for a while :( just a week ago he used to sit on my shoulder and preening my beard and eyebrows. My guy seems to be very moody 😐

      Molting can be a very stressful time for birds. They do get extremely moody as it takes a lot out of them. It will pass and things will be back to normal again, just be sure to provide them with a good diet and plenty of sleep and naps 😊

      I would definitely give your vet a call and explain to them what is going on. Is there a reason why you changed his food. Can you tell me what it is now and what he was eating before. When molting they do sleep more and need rest, but if he’s not eating or shows any other health issues I’d be concerned.

    • @Riccothegreenpiedirn
      @Riccothegreenpiedirn  Před rokem +1

      Aww is he molting? Yes they will eventually all fall out if this is his big molt. If it’s his first molt it won’t be as heavy of a molt and most likely won’t this time around 😊

      @rmarvel169 Před rokem +1

      @Ricco_the_greenpied_irn awww! Darn it! He's 15 mth now so I'm sure it's his 1st molt and he's lost 4 tail feathers so I was hoping but then I read on Google that they sometimes have another one after breeding season so I thought I'd come ask you 😉 it's not a bad one and he's only got visible pin feathers around his eyes , top of the head but not bad so I know it's coming ! But his lil wing feathers (a few of them) maybe flight feathers? Have come out in the back where they're actually crossing over in the back if you know what I mean? So exciting watching him grow ! And he's a chatterbox and whistler 🥰🤣 I can't wait for the plushies to come out! Great idea be a Ricco is stunning!!

      I’m so sorry to hear about your bird. Ricco was born like this and he is a mutation parrot.
      If your bird was not born like this it sounds like a dietary issue or much worse like liver. Birds need vegetables, fruits, pellets, seeds, and much more to survive. They can not survive off of rice. Please give her other foods.
      If you are on Facebook they have a page called parrots first aid that can help you better with this. It is free and only the admins can help you. You just need to provide a picture.
