- This video is all about how to pet a bird that is fearful of hands. I have included some tips that will hopefully help you out.
Keep in mind that some birds will never want to be touched and will always be fearful of hands. Never force your bird to do anything it does not want, this will make your bird more fearful of you or aggressive towards you.

Hey new bird owner here.I’m afraid of my bird .. I feed it with my hands but it does not let me touch it
Is it going well? Are they tamed?
One of my tricks has been holding something they are close to in my hand and then petting them with it. For Milo it was a toy or my phone, eventually I would sneak a finger in there, and overtime he got comfortable with my hand.
Thank you for this tip, it will definitely work on birds who are not food motivated as well and more focused on the toy or phone lol.

I’ve got 2 IRN months ago and I managed to get one of them to stand on my hand only once, I though that this is not normal and they won’t love me because every video I watch says it takes from a week to a month to tame your parrot, I have more hope after watching this video, thank you so much
Oh yes it takes time to build trust. It took me 1 year for Ricco to fully trust me and allow head scratches. Just give your birds time and never force them to do anything they don’t want to. Good luck.

@@Riccothegreenpiedirn hi I am so glad that you look forward to seeing Angels video.Every week I go to Petco and get Angel extra food.so that I am stocked up on his food the bad thing is the apartment where I live I can't have his food delivered because they are allways spraying chemicals due to the coronavirus so I have to have it go to my PO box which is far from where I live but I had that PO box for a long time I didnt want to change it until I move out of New York hopefully by February.when I walk outside with my husband now he sees how bad it is where we live yesterday some man came up to my husband asking for money.for a lady in new York when it gets dark it best to stay at home.Love you and Ricco and Angel loves you too also and Ricco.

Thanks for the video. Many IRN don't prefer lots of touch so it's good information. With my macaw (and previously with my Indian ringneck) I would have the kids put their arms on the table and have a treat on the other side of their arm so bird must climb over them. Then in their hand... Then touch... All with rewards and respect of their boundaries. My macaw now is quite use to hands and will fly to any of the family members hands

Thank you! I have 2 green cheeked conures and they eat from my hand, yet they dont like being petted.
Of course you are an expert for "Tickle, tickle" 🤣🤣. However many bird owners I see on youtube could use more rest in contact with their birds. Sometimes its just better to let the bird have its will. One thing I even experience with my wild birds is, that one hasty move destroys the magic in any closer contact. The bird will feel threatened then. (I´m already happy with 1m distance 😁💚)

He still has his moments if he doesn’t want them and I always respect that.

My Indian ringneck isn’t a huge fan of unsolicited scritches, but the treats were big for touch conditioning. I made him touch me with his face before he got to take the treat.

@@Riccothegreenpiedirn Another way of doing it that worked for me was training him to go under my hand like a tunnel. I still can’t touch him without permission but he’s much more likely to say “yes!”

Hey I have a new ringneck parrot i have had her a week and she's so scared I don't know what to do she keeps flying away from me

Suddenly she changes her behaviour, she started to scare of my hands… She doesn’t want to go to cage.. before it was not like that..she is almost 3 months old . From last days she is very scared of me.. How can I change her?She is come to my head and shoulder . And she is taking food from my hand…
Has anything changed, is she being aggressive as well or just fearful?

Thanks for this information. I have a new Jenday Conure whom is less than a year old born 04/2022. I've had a Sun Conure since 05/2005. Can't recall how I got him over the fear of hands.
Aww congratulations on your new Jenday Conure, they are adorable. I love the Sun Conures as well, they are so beautiful. Just keep in mind every bird is different, it took me 1 year for Ricco to allow head scratches and it’s usually still on his terms lol.
@@Riccothegreenpiedirn I'm having to keep this in my head so I don't get frustrated. I named him Jango and he is soooo sweet. Way sweeter than my Sun whom I still love. Jango eats from my finger and will...reluctantly step one talon and if I'm lucky two talon step-up. But he wants to immediately step back down. He is definitely afraid of the hands. He will want to run quickly away if I try to get him to do anything else. I got him two weeks ago.
At step 2 my ringneck mumbles when I give her head messages. What does that sound mean?

My cockatiel gets treats a lot but still screams at fingers or hands and when you put your hand in his cage he starts screaming. You have to move like a snail … well he also opens his beak..

Aww congratulations on your new cockatiel. Just give him time and continue to do things slowly. Using treats and his favourite foods is always best when trying to gain a birds trust. Also for now I wouldn’t recommend putting your hands in his cage. It’s best to never force your bird to do anything he doesn’t want to do as it will ruin any trust you are trying to build with your bird.

@@Riccothegreenpiedirn I think my parents kept putting their hands at him and even in his cage… I don’t do that but like I’m not sure if this will effect his behaviour towards me because I’m thinking it might make him think that even I am trying to do that kind of stuff.
( But we actually have to put our hands in the cage to put stuff inside it )
I dont see him grinding his beak as much I noticed and he just does this weird call which I think means bored or stressed or something (Because I’m not actually sure)
And they’re saying he is talking to me? Which I don’t know about that, it’s like this call where he starts chirping at first then it gradually gets louder and louder.
And I can’t really do much, even though I try he is really loud it kind of hurts.
