- In Karaoke Night, contestants are given a made-up song title by a real artist - and it's up to them (and accompanist Aaron Wilson) to come up with a song for that title on the spot, with music and lyrics ready to go. But what happens when all three contestants - Zach, Ross, and Rashawn - have to work together to create a perfect Supremes harmony? Put it on your to-do list to watch this.

you can rly tell how proud they rightfully are of this episode by how fast it found its way beyond the paywall
Literally lmao
So true
Lmao, nice one
i watched this episode last night, theyre right to be so proud. easily one of the best game changers
They got the best players for it
As always, huge props to the piano player, the amount of improv in the band is astounding and easy to forget about.
Surely the pianist is "only" playing a few different advanced predictable riffs, and the rest of the band is added in post-production?
@@telanis9 I am not. It is impressive indeed. I've been a musician for 17 years, and I absolutely recognize the advanced level of improvisation and collaboration with the vocals. I don't intend to downplay the impressiveness, but some people here seem to think that the entire band is playing live. The layers added in post-production obviously makes the result sound a lot better and more impressive than it is with piano alone. They can't change the key or the progression of the songs in post, that's all from the mastermind pianist, but some of the praise they receive here is somewhat misguided. And don't take me wrong, I absolutely applaud the choice of adding post-production layers. The reason I originally wrote "only" in quotation marks is because the pianist's performance isn't a small feat. I only pointed it out in two comments, this one who praised the "improv in the band" (although correctly specifying the pianist, so I agree my reply here was rather unwarranted), and in another comment that seems to have been deleted, which pointed out a specific timestamp of the band doing unrealistic predictions or something.
E
@@StianF sorry about replying to a 1 year old comment, but yeah you're right. the piano and singing was live and improvised, and extra instruments were added in post. i think i remember seeing that in the behind the scenes for the episode.
Sam immediately getting arm-swingingly into it is the best
Sam's joy of everything thry do, helps make it.
I want a version that's just all of Sam's dancing during this song.
@@stargate525 wish granted
@@caramelcopcat Where?

Sam doesn't make these shows because he wants to be more successful
He doesn't do this for the audience
This is for him and him alone, and he is having as much fun as possible
It’s a poorly veiled excuse for him to just have fun and be entertained
The best kind of work is the one you enjoy so much it doesn’t feel like work
...and really, if more people in Hollywood did the same it would be a much more wonderful place.
@@raeje they do, the problem is they have been destroyed by hollywood so the overwhelming response is cynicism the film equivalent of reel big fishs song "dont start a band"
Rashawns first verse setting up perfectly for Zach nailing that absolutely infectious chorus was pure musical gold
gotta be honest, musical episodes are just my fav, their improv game are so impressive! i love it!!!
Its just like a classic Whose Line episode. Man, if they get Wayne Brady on here, that would be so hype.
It's not really a game but the Off Book podcast by Zach and Jess is great
@@matthewrandell5055i was just about to say this! they’re hilarious and i finished about 50 episodes in a week because they’re so great

HOW.... is this possible? So much talent in one room, including Sam.
Sam is clearly the host because of his dancing skills
Don't forget the pianist
1kth like bc u deserve it
I love that they each provide their own idea of what a To-Do List is. Rashawn is most accurate, simply listing chores for the day. Ross has long-term dreams and goals, so he makes steps that will improve his confidence. Zach is just hilarious. He’s like a sociopath, anywhere between Nathan Fielder and Patrick Bateman, pre-planning how he’ll come out on top of every social interaction. 😆 I don’t believe for a moment that the silly string is for a child’s birthday party… that was a cover up to sound less insane!
Alternatively, the social interaction bit is literally just anxiety lol. I don't write down all the burns I have for people, but I do plan what to say in most conversations I have lol
It's honestly perfect to have distinct different interperetations sharing space.
@@AnUmbreonNamedRaire True, but Zach literally says he is writing down “stings and jabs”, so probably the sociopath angle more than anxiety. :P
@@FatedHandJonathonThe stings and jabs can be in response to bullying or rudeness. The whole thing starts with Ross' line "tell of the person who treats you like a jerk" after all.
I’ve watched this a number of times because it’s so good, and all three massively contribute, but if you watch it enough, you realize how much Zach is the facilitator of making it cohesive and seamless. What he contributes: The friggin Chorus, the bridge, assisting the harmonizing at the end, and perhaps my favorite, reinforcing and encouraging what might be the closest thing to a stumble. “Set forth for today” is the closest moment to it going off the rails, and what does he do? Repeats it like it was the most important part of the song in a terrific moment of musicality. The man does this a lot, and should not be underestimated. Again, all three are clearly really good, he’s just the Lebowski rug.
Couldn't have said it better.
And lyrics wise, I love his sense of humor the most 😂
@@MaMa-rx5jz Oh, for sure, he’s a goofball of the highest order, and will not let anything he’s involved go without some giggling from the audience.
When you say that I can't help noticing it. Really useful comment to someone like me who probably takes help from others for granted!
To be fair, Zac probably has the most experience of the three after creating something like 200 episodes of Off Hook with Jess. Not to say hes not any less talented but the man is skilled
Totally agree, he always comes in to support his fellow players or add to the structure of the song or the harmonies, without feeling like he takes the song over
the posing at the end was a perfect nearly unnoticeable example of “yes and”
I don't understand how people can be so good at this. It truly feels magical!
lots of practice!
Going to school for improv
It's like, you watch musicals and there's always some part of you that can't reach suspension of disbelief because how could all these people break out into perfectly choreographed song and dance and how do they'd all know the words, etc. But then you see something like this and it's like... Oh I guess that shit is actually possible.
@@TheFounderUtopia For real! So basically everyone in the musical, whether it’s the barber or the librarian in the background, JUST so happens to have years of improv experience.
@@Blucham and just so happens to be 100% down to join in with some improvised music, no matter where they are or what they're doing

Zack's ability to carry the melody is unparalleled. rashawne's bridge is what set the entire song ..... I love her pressure at the end that makes him exasperated; he came in clutch.

I think you can? Or you could?
You can! On the Dropout store they have all the songs for sale there plus a couple of songs they cut from the episode
In the dropout store you can buy them as a digital album, in a pay what you want (at least 1 dollar) deal
As others said it's available in the store. The only letdown is that they didn't cut the part sam talks before the song :/
Every song was incredible but To-Do List is a masterpiece.
I'm so glad they made this one public. It's so good.
E
I unironically want this for my cleaning playlist
Can we take a minute to appreciate that not only are they improvising a song, they’re harmonizing?!
A true musical improv masterpiece.
Dayummm that chorus is GREAT - someone record this as an actual song please
their singing improv is impressive.
So when is this episode getting its own spin-off?
@@umechanx00 Play it by ear is different.
@@matthewdykeman8149 i think the concept of "musical improv show where they have to follow a specific prompt" is too similar to make a new show out of it
In the BTS video for this episode it sounded like they had a whole lot of prompts left over, so I'd love a Game Samer of this one!
Its a combo of make some noise and play it by ear i guess
Not a Dropout show, but the Offbook podcast co-hosted by Zach (the guy on the left) is basically this. Some episodes they just improvise one-off songs off of goofy ideas like this, and others they do a cohesive 45 minute improv musical.
This is my most rewatched episode since Official Cast Recording. Gotta love Game Changer. Dropout is so worth it
SAME. I love this episode. Also, I want the album lol
I have this and Official Cast Recording downloaded for offline views and will be keeping them in my phone for perpetuity.

LYRICS
verse 1:
My mama told me,
Do what you can,
But before you start you know you got to make a plan.
(got to make a plan)
Make a plan,
(make a plan)
Feels it in your soul,

Bridge 1:
I often make a lift to understand the obstacles that I've got Set forth for today,
(set forth for today)
I gotta get an oil change and do some groceries pick up some drying cleaning,
and maybe watch the game.
Chorus 1:
So make a to-do list!
(make a to-do list)
put it up on your refrigerator and do it!
Just make a to-do list!
(make a to-do list)
if you check them all off there is nothing to it.
Verse 2:
Start the day off with a cold shower and a bit of meditation,
step out of your door ready to take on the whole nation,
(ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
grab a cup of coffee,
walk into work,
tell off the person who treats you like a jerk.
Bridge 2:
Write down the social interations you will have,
to make sure that you get them right,
if you don't write down those stings and jabs that you have in your head,
what you could have said will keep you up at night!
Chorus 2:
So make a to-do list!
(make a to-do list)
make a to-do list and cross it off!
Just make a to-do list!
Nothing feels better,
than erasing all the things you did today.

make a to-do list,
just make a to-do list,
make a to-do list
Finale:
Doing it doesn't feel half as good as crossing it off!

ahh is there any way i can access it without the paywall?
I want like, a full on studio recording of this. This was so good. Also please make a music video for it where all three of them are dressed in the shiny baby blue sequined gowns from Dreamgirls.
I watched this whole episode and Tom Waits's Story of Sisyphus and The Supremes's To-Do List songs got me dancing... Freaking amazing talent you've got there.
I cannot begin to explain how worthwhile it is to get a dropout subscription just for game changer and dimension20.
Make some noise has also been very good
I don’t think of make some noise and play it by ear as separate shows from Game Changer really because both are spin offs, but yes they have been VERY good. But I do miss the real competitive edge from the noise bois episodes in the Game Changer Show.

Been waiting for this to make it to CZcams! Biggest musical banger!
This one was especially impressive, my goodness. Zach Reino MVP
I just showed this to my parents, who’ve not seen a single episode of Game Changer before. Almost immediately afterwards, my mum started singing “Make a to-do list!” to herself.
If that doesn’t prove what a magic trick this song is, I don’t know what is.
MAKE A TO-DO LIST 🎶🎶
This feels like when Whose Line Is It Anyway gets a guest on that's almost as musically inclined as Wayne Brady and they improv the songs together.
Can we get Wayne Brady on dropout? Or can we get a Game Changer/ Whose Line crossover?
YES.
according to sam, wayne brady's reached out to them about something
To be perfectly honest, I don't think Wayne Brady is anywhere near as good at musical improv as these people are. Good musical sections on Whose Line were really never more than acceptable. If you paid attention, he had like 2 or 3 "pattern words" he always jumped to that were meaningless and just stalled for time (especially "can't you understand" or "I really want to know") and I think Brad Sherwood had a stronger lyrical game. And Zach Reino and Ross Bryant very rarely use this kind of stall tactic by comparison.
@@noeticparadigm1576 I think part of that is just how many whose line episodes there were and the fact that they repeated games/song structures so much. I've seen him live and he put on a really fun show (despite the crowd being bunch of med students and therefore the audience suggestions being just disease after weird disease sfdjask)
@@jpegsexchop6363 I'm not saying he's not good or that I could do better, but are you familiar with Off Book: the Musical Podcast? Zach and Jess have done over two hundred improvised musicals and I just don't think Wayne Brady can touch the lyrical cleverness and imagination of what I've heard from Zach there and from Ross on Play It By Ear.
I think this is my favourite show they do. It absolutely never fails to impress me to see such talented people being put on the spot and rising to the occasion.
I could watch hours of this! It’s incredible! I think we’re in agreement that it’s the next show to make! 💜
