Today we have just a fun day out practicing. We try our hand at shooting eggs at 100, 200, 300, and 400 yards. I pit my CZ 457 VPT MTR against my buddies custom Vudoo V22 22lr.
Ammo was expended.............eggs were exploded......fun was definitely had!

Wow, two years later I finally came across this video…impressive to say the least. I must admit I am a CZ fan from way back. I do like what Vudoo has done for the industry and I hope CZ decides to make even more offerings and expand our market. Thank you for the great video.
Thanks for watching
I have been very impressed with your 400 yard challenge.
I got to stretch my CZ long range precision out to 400 yards and I hit a half steel plate 7 out of 10 rounds BOY was I happy.
That's nothing compared to a egg but for me it was unbelievable.
Thanks for showing what's possible with a 22lr.
Awesome Kent
The CZ457 is no slouch! After shooting my first bench silhouette match this past weekend with a bone stock CZ457 Lux, I plunked down for a CZ457 MTR.
You make a really good video. When you add your hold to the impact video, it really brings the shot into perspective. Brilliant use of what you have available. I'm picking up a lot watching how you guys shoot. I can't add anything to what you're shooting. You are really over the top on anything I could want to see. Next weekend, I'll bring out some 22 challenge targets from Mr. Revolver Guy for my daughter and I to play with. You all are making 22LR really fun to shoot.
Awesome, I apprefiate that Charlie. This week me and my daughter are going to shoot the hostage target and see what we can do.
Also; it would be cool to have some "indicating" target just behind the eggs, so that you, and we, could see impact points, kind of like having a shot caller...
That was the original intent just didnt "pan" out 😆😆
I was thinking the same thing myself. It would be much easier to adjust.
Great shooting and content! It really shows how that CZ holds it's own at 1/2 the price of the Vudoo. Since you asked..... How about you borrow a Vudoo and do a side by side accuracy comparison of the Vudoo and your CZ at 50 and 200 yds with the same ammo and shooter on the same day.
That is coming for sure
Using same ammo seems unfair, certain guns like certain ammo better that’s the way most people “tune” a 22lr for long range shooting. You can’t expect 2 rifles to like the same stuff even if they are one serial number off
@@taylorbokshowan5713 correct. Just waiting for some $$ to free up so I can lot test the Vudoo then it will be paper shooting groups
That's the better comparison, I agree.
As to price, the Vudoo is about 8x that of the CZ, not twice.
One-third the price at least
That is some kentucky windage your pulling off. I like it.
Definitely takes some luck on wind calls
II like what your doing here. In the process of teaching my son about the “ Realm “ of plinking. I thought the 2 eggs at 100yrd increments with shot count maxs was right on…. Keep putting content out there.. Up here in Minny we only get 5 mos window before we end up indoors shooting.. Smooth and steady.
Awesome video, now I want one of those timney triggers for my 457!
I like how your buddy waits until after you miss to say “the first one to hit my egg gets the point” at 300
Lol
Reminds having competition with my old Mossberg 22. We would set up these little gourds that were laying around that were about the size of an egg on Pepsi bottles about 50 to a 100 yards out and the trick was to shoot the gourd off the bottle without damaging the bottle. To make it more interesting you had to shoot free standing, no bench resting. It was amazing how accurate the rifle is, I mean it beat out the Ruger 10/22 even with a full barrel change. You could shoot sipping straws in half at 25 yards consistently.
Love the surroundings where you guys plink. So beautiful!!
Thanks Chris.
My place looks like a disaster area now but come spring it should be in tip top shape
Such nice vids guys. Just subscribed. Thanks for your contribution to our sport.
Gotta admit as a 457 guy myself I was rooting for you Josh haha! Great challenge thanks to you I keep pushing out the distance as well. Great video as always!
Haha thanks Scott
What are the scopes you both are using and the rails you are using
@@jimhamilton3544 I'm currently running a vortex 6x24-50 diamondback tactical moa with an area 419 20 moa base.

Next time you have a challenge like this, maybe use a magnet with a clip to hold some cardboard behind the eggs so you guys can see where your shots are going. I really enjoyed this video!
Looks like a blast. I think there might be a 457 build in my future. Thanks for the video. Be Safe
Thanks Tim
Anyone who shoots plinkers knows how challenging aka fun this is.
Nice job guys. Lot of fun. 👍👍
Playing cards. Closes to the center... 1 point. Double the point if you call first. Before you take your shot. By Shoot either number on the corner of the card. Instead of the center. Starting at a hundred yards. Then pushing back in 50yard increments.
You make really good quality and interesting videos. I just recently subscribed. You deserve a million more subscribers.
Thanks Gary
another awesome performance from Josh and the CZ457. great win against the Vudoo.
Thanks Fred
@@PursuitofAccuracy
I got a game idea for you and your daughter shoot..tape a battleship target at 50 or 100 yards..
We also use old calendars at 100 yards. Flip a coin who shoots odd or even, 5 min time limit..the most days wins..enjoy
@@ffrank7905 sounds like fun for sure. You gonna be the king of challenge ideas
Great shooting 👍I have 4 CZ rifles and I'm not done yet. Thank you for the video.
Awesome Mark
Terrific video and great shooting, that 300 and 400 is a loooong shot as the chicken flys, I saw Josh's bullet flash by the egg @ approx. 11:40 on the target cam
Thanks WoW Guy I appreciate it
I know someone who uses a Custom cz 455 from before who beats the Custom match annies just for the bragging rights and as a challenge in their precision matches. He owns Custom annies as well
Back then. He is very meticulous in his craft and uses every trick and the book though and can very much afford the best equipment as he buys Gun platforms and barrels in pairs or more, customizes and selects the best and sells the rest. He uses Beta blockers and shoots at his own time where he feels he would best perform. He is able to dictate this because he owns the range and he is almost always the principal sponsor of the match. This was about a decade or more ago when i was still active as a spectator on those events as i Scout around such events for Custom barrels or triggers as importing them is very expensive and is such a hassle where i come from. Would not be surprised if he now has a Custom cz 457 he uses to outshoot the vudoo again just for the heck of it as he most likely has a vudoo too.
Haha yeah its definitely possible. At a certain point once your gear is good enough it becomes more about the nut behind the trigger than the barrel in front of it
Another great video and fun to watch! Thanks.
Thanks Robert
That was really fun to watch! Great shooting!
Thank you
Great entertaining video, and excellent shooting.
Thanks Luis
Thanks for another great video ( very well produced ), and thanks for showing me what a MTR will do. If only I could shoot mine as accurate 8).
😁😁 Thanks
The best shooting channel I’ve stumbled on in a while
Thanks WarpedNut, really appreciate that
Your buddy was leaning on the table for every shot, Josh. You (correctly) sat back for his. HUGE difference at these ranges when the primary support is the table. He could not have helped but move around or transmit nervous energy. The fact that you won is even more impressive given that issue. Just an observation.
Thanks Tom. Yeah i dont think it was intentional on his part. Good observation though
Is that a Lilja barrel on the 457? Doesn’t look like factory tube.
Fun to watch! I have to try that. I can't wait for my Timney trigger. I was shoot 200 yards with 10 to 15 winds switching around like a pole dancer. Very hard to get consistent hits. At 3 and 400 yards with slightest breeze can be punishing. Im sure my wife won't miss a few eggs out of the chicken coop! LOL
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Yeah the wind is your enemy with 22lr. Especially if its a switching wind you cant ever seem to get a handle on
Everyone know the Vudoo is the top of the food chain but this proves that skill will always win out in the end. Just because you have the best equipment doesn’t mean you will always win.
The vudoo is an awesome rifle for sure. But as you said, the difference in these rifles isnt huge. Skill and a little luck go a long way competing
That was fun and thanks for sharing :)
Thanks oddur
I thought I heard the vudoo hit steel at 100, which would meant he's low but still got the egg by splash. But then at 200 he clean misses, with a follow up shot that appeared to hit low left on the egg. DOPE. :)
Hello ! I'm a french, i like yours vidéos , my spirit, accuracy like you. In French, BRAVOOO !
Thank you Josh.
Appreciate ya Andrew
Great video Brother . That cz is a real shooter
Its getting there. I appreciate it Willard
challenging shootout, congratulations to both of you
Thanks
Out of the box, the CZ is outstanding.
Yes sir
Fun Stuff Guys! Just installed a Trigger Tech on my 40x 22-243 Middlestead and love it. My dinosaur Canjar trigger got stupid light and too dangerous for me to shoot and can't find anyone to rebuild it so I went new and called it a day.
Trigger techs are amazing triggers
Ok now that looks like an awesome idea to try at my farm. Amazing shooting guys.
Thanks Curt
I'm loving your videos great shooting
I'm considering buying a CZ 457 varmint precision trainer ...I'm going to use it for small game and targets
Its a great rifle. I love mine.
Appreciate the support Robert
We need to get the Tikka in there sometime. I still feel the Tikka is the smoothest and the shortest bolt throw of any of the mainstream 22lr’s.
I am actively looking for a t1x to test
Smooth action for sure but only soso on accuracy!
@@curttuundra mine shoots pinky nail sized 10rd groups with Eley Tenex and SK Long Range Match. If I could post the pictures I would. Mine is also not in the factory stock and has a barrel tuner.

Hey Joe, appreciate it
Looking forward to when you have the Pursuit of Accuracy decal like you have on your scope sunshade. I'm all in.
Hopefully this summer
Great video!
Thanks
great shooting - both
Thanks
Good stuff my friends, Old Master Gunnery SGT USMC.
Man this looks fun. I really want to get a bolt action. I have a 10/22 Tactical and AR15 conversion to .22
Heyo! Do you have a CZ 457 build breakdown? Would like to know what you all have in it. I have a CZ 455 "Tacticool" I want to build on to that but haven't pushed past 100 yet (oddly it's more accurate with Winchester white box than expensive match ammo)
I sure would like to see a challenge done between Ruger 77/22 22bolt action all weather stainless steel vs those that are showing here.. I wonder how they would compare with the Ruger 77/22?
Could you do a video on how you clean your barrel and what you use to do it with.
Yeah sure can. Next time i clean the rifle i will film it
Josh, Been a long time since you have done one of these videos. Time to get your buddies together and do another one..... These are always fun to watch.
Great shooting entertaining to watch well done fella’s
Thanks Dave
Looks like fun !!
Tons
That was enjoyable
You have spoken a lot about the Timney trigger I would like to see your thoughts on the JARD Trigger for the CZ and also for the Browning T Bolt.
This is the best shooting I've ever seen. 👍
Thanks
Absolutely great content, always like it when you challenge your buddies Josh. I like to watch them eat Crow 2.
He gonna get me one day.........
@@PursuitofAccuracy Yeah, but you still have bragging rights. He`s got some catching up to do in the meantime...lol.
@@D70340 yeah he is definitely in the hole for sure haha
String of Christmas lights is fun
Does the longer than 16" barrel really do anything with a .22? Why not a heavier profile shorter barrel that balances the same?
Curious what the chamber specs are like after spinning a custom barrel on an AR project.
I bought a CZ 457 several years ago. Put a cheap 3 x 9 scope on it. I could not believe the accuracy it had. It likes Winchester 36gr hollow points. A squirrel does not stand a chance!
Have you shot any other ammo to narrow it down? So you think the lighter bullets are better. I just ordered this rifle and I was wondering what ammo would shoot best.
@@georgeharvey3062 yes I have. I tried 40gr solid nose Winchester, 40 gr Winchester Wildcat, Remington and CCI. It likes the 36 gr hollow point Winchesters. I have a Browning Lever Action I bought years ago. It likes the Winchester Wildcat 40gr. Try different cartridges to see what your gun likes.
@@eddemoville8390 I will. Thanks for the advice
You remind me so much of my nephew. Red beard and all.. Great shooting!
Haha
Nice video man! Keep up the good work!
Any work done to your Cz 457 action? It just looks like it handles a lot smoother then mine. The bolt lift on mine is heavy… yours looks a lot lighter
No its all factory under the hood. I have shot mine a ton though.
My CZ457 is all OEM factory, and it is the smoothest running bolt i`ve ever owned in 60+ years. But CZ`s quality control anymore, is all over the place.
Just keep shooting it, it will smooth out. Be thankful she`s not loose and sloppy.
In terms of value/satisfaction the CZ
MTR Manners is heads above the Voodo, I think you could buy 3 MTRs for the price of His 'custom' gun.
Its diminishing returns. The vudoo, with the right ammo, will out perform the cz on most occassions....but the performance gains are small compared to the increase in cost
I like how you show the hold over that is really important 300 yd yards is way out there for any rifle And caliber most people don't shoot that far... There just isn't a space available to shoot that far... A lot of people don't realize how far 300 yd really is....🤓
Its a poke for sure.......there may be some 500+ yard shooting coming soon
I'm impressed! Anybody that can shoot out to nearly a quarter mile and hit even a dinner plate would have me shocked. An egg?! A whole other level.
Appreciate it! Thanks for watching
Nice video, keep them coming.............
I appreciate it
why do you aim to the left of the egg. is it because of the wind? also, this is target shooting, does the 22lr still have kill power at 3 - 400 yards?
2 coke caps packed with flour super glue together. Set in a white rectangular box. So cap od is 31mm. Distance 375 yards ya have 5 shot round 5 targets each.
I plan to do the same with (small) apples here in Switzerland😅
Great video Josh and the CZ comes through. I’m curious about your buddy’s Vudoo, what is the length and taper of that barrel? I just ordered a RimX from Kenny with a MTU 22” in a MPA Hybrid chassis. Josh’s barrel seem to have a MTU taper but looks really long. Great shooting, looking forward to getting mine so I can play too.
I cant honestly remember but it was done for him by a smith
I always enjoy your videos, but this was great! Not because the CZ won but because you guys are stretching the limits!
Thanks Kent. I always enjoy making these kinds of videos where i can have more of a story telling feel vs just data
Hey Guys that was a fun comparison. I’m happy I ordered a CZ 457 At One 2 days ago. For the money it seems like it will be a fairly accurate gun. One question though what scopes are you both using and what is the magnification of them? Much appreciated.
Im not sure what he was using but i was running an athlon cronus 4.5-29.
Thats a pretty typical magnification range for a prs style optic
Nice video! I think that ballistics at 400 yards, kind of equivalent to .308 at 2000... in short, damn little chance of "one shot, one egg" ;-) but, incredible accuracy from these rifles at "real" ranges! CZ certainly holds up well. Can y'all give some mire details on the Vudoo spec's, and the ammunition you were using?
Nice....
Vudoo was a v22 gen 2 all stock except for the 24" krieger 1.250" barrel and a trigger tech diamond trigger
@@PursuitofAccuracy not sure if ur brother is into it but he might be robbing speed with that length of barrel from what I’ve seen 20” seems to be where it’s all over for 22lr
@@taylorbokshowan5713 I dont think hes as concerned about losing mv. The rws he shoots is pretty fast out of his rifles anyways.
Also hes just a buddy, not my brother 😁
@@PursuitofAccuracy I haven’t watched much of your channel but from what I’ve seen once they get to long there is a very real possibility he’s sacrificing accuracy. If he’s happy with the groups it’s producing let it be. If not I’d consider shortening the barrel.
@@taylorbokshowan5713 actually its very common to see bench rest rimfire guys shooting 24" or longer barrels.
The extra length shouldnt hurt accuracy as much as it take off velocity after 18"
Even though he had a tough time with the rifle on the video that rifle is extremely accurate
Great video. I have a 457 training Rifle. Looking at the 457 pro varmint and getting into NRL22. Starting to think I should stay with what I have and invest in a better higher end scope. What’s your thoughts.
Yeah you could always get a stock or chassis later as well.
accurate 22's are a load of fun
Yes sir
Great Video !! My first time watching your channel... Cause, I just got my first CZ 457 AT .. haven't shot it yet, waiting on rings. put on a Warne 15 MOA base, and got a Muller 8.5 X 25 - 44mm Mil-Dot to play with, setting up a Squirrel gun for 5 to 75 yards... ?? will start with Eley 38gr. HP will try others for sure...
Nice. Thanks for watching
I like our Videos. CZ should be sponsoring you8:) Has anyone tried tensioning the lightweight factory CZ barrels?
I grew up in the 1950s shooting running Jackrabbits with 22 shorts. The winds were anything from calm to 35 mph. The lead, drop, and windage on a 29-grain bullet at a running rabbit at 125 yards are considerable. The bullets you were shooting in the video have 30 to 50% better BCs than the 29-grain bullet of 22 shorts, but a one mph change in a 90-degree crosswind moves the point of impact of the 22LR bullet with the best BC 3.6 inches at 400 yards. Using a more realistic BC of 0.138, a 1-mph change in wind speed moves the point of impact 5.3 inches at 400 yards, 3 inches at 300, and an egg missing 1.3 inches at 200 yards.
An egg is a 1/3d minute wide at 400 yards, while a one mph crosswind will move a 22LR bullet 1-1/3 minutes at 400 yards. No wonder it took a long time to kill the 400-yard eggs.
Crazy 400 yards on a 🥚
Great video guys. I just like to know, what barrel do you have on your CZ? Looks like a great shooting gun
Its a lilja barrel
Great shooting. At what distance are you sighted in, and how much elevation for 200 or 300 yds?
Hey Terry, the rifles are zeroed at 50.
200 yards was roughly 6.5 mils, 300 was roughly 12.5 mils, and 400 roughly 20.5 mils
@@PursuitofAccuracy Thank you, Josh
Fun idea, I’ll give it a “shot” 😉👍🏻
We will probably do it again one day when the wind is calmer.

Can you give us a build sheet on your 457
Every time I think Vudoo or Rimx or whatever, I find a video showing a CZ at half the price or less holding it's own. I'm pretty much convinced you need a straight barrel and a trigger that doesn't require yanking.
Theres advantages to the rimx and vudoos but for sure a cz 457 is more than enough
We shoot golf balls at 300 yards. We put acoustic screws into the balls with a lathe & put a wire from the screw & hang on a pipe in sets of 10. When hit they spin like crazy & don't need to be reset. I use a Unicorn Savage bolt 22lr which shot .198 @ 85 yards with TAC22, 10 5 shot groups the worst .25, the best & last .198. Paid $285 w/scope & Boyds varmint stock.
Yeah you won the lottery there

Do you thing Josh has afdvantage withthe longer barrel on his new Vudoo?Afriend has a Anshutz and at 300 yards I can stay with him with an out of the box Ruger Precision. I was thinking about buying an Bergara Trainer. How long of a barrel is needed for 22lr ELR say fron 400 yds to 600 yds? Thanks GREAT VIDEO!!! Im a New Subscriber
Mate, I tried this out to 500 and my Lithgow LA101 nailed every shot. Burris scoped it was a piece of cake.
You hit an egg all the way out to 500 yards first shot??
Heard nothing but incredible things about the Lithgow LA101.
Nice to see an aussie gun kicking some serious goals!
Well, given the respective prices, I would call the CZ the far better bang for the buck. I like the Vudoos very much, but they are stupid expensive at about $3500.00.
So unless you require that extra epsilon of precision from a .22, I'd call the CZ the hands-down winner between the two marques. But if you have extra thousands burning a hole in your pocket...
For that money, I'd go with centerfire for some real long-range fun.
And for the record, my lousy Stevens Model 34, which cost me $60 used, replete with its horrible trigger, might shoot about 95% of what these two will do... out to 100 anyway. :)
Hi, Great Video…. What scope were you using on the CZ?
