Another method to measure 22lr rim thickness. First obtain a "once fired" .223 REM brass case. Be sure to have a good quality digital calipers (Mitutoyo). Next, measure the length of the once fired .223REM from the base to the top of the case rim.
Next, take a unfired .22lr and insert the bullet fully into the once fired .223 REM case. Now take your calipers and measure from the base of the .223 REM to the base of the inserted .22lr cartridge
Now take your first measurement of the empty .223 REM case and subtract that number from the second measurement that you took. The difference is the .22lr rim thickness.
Very easy to set up and collect a lot of data quickly.
I want to buy a used cz 457 barrel, do you have it and I'm in Vietnam. If you know where I can buy them, can you help me? Thank you very much
Nice method, the gun is already very accurate so is there a value in doing this procedure?
I am very impressed! I thought you did a great job in describing each step and how to do it. I appreciate that you actually took your CZ down to demonstrate. I watched another video where they tried to talk through it with a very minimal demonstration. I have saved this page to watch again. Thanks.
Thank you very much. Positive comments like this make it all worth while.
When is the follow up video coming about the potential improvement in accuracy?
Very imformative video! Are you able to post a video showing before and after groups to show how reducing the play between the back of the case and the bolt face effects the group on paper?
Thank you for the in detail video. Lookin forward to do this to my 457. I've seen the results of improvement in accuracy by shimming the bolt, impressive..
my headspace came out to 0.0025! Thank you for this! I couldnt of done it without ya!
Great video. I just ordered my first precision barrel for my 457. This will help a lot, thanks!
Wow. Exactly what I needed. Thank you so very much for taking the time to make this vid. Super helpful 🙏
If you zero the dial on your calipers to the thickness of your fishtail angle gage you dont have to subtract it
There are replacement cocking indicators ( that cheap red plastic part ) that are made of metal available. Big improvement
Thanks for the very informative video. Looking forward to seeing if it has increased accuracy.
Excellent Video. Its the first time Ive seen it taken apart.A nd put back together. Well Explained. Thank you
Great video. Very helpful. I tried the .002 shim. No affect on accuracy but what I got was 1-3 rounds failing to eject per 10 round mag. Yes - pointy ejector was on the right. Removed shim and ejection issue disappeared.
i thought so
leave well enough alone
I might add you'll want plenty of lube on that shim at all times as it's getting a lot of pressure and rotation on it.
Need an update on how this affected the accuracy. Before and after would be MOST helpful. ;)
Great demonstration. Thanks
Well done, Sir. Thank you for that very easy to follow video. Off to the range!
Just did the operation, my gun took 5 thou shim, real snug now!!😉
Great video, very helpful!Thanks!
Your sure doing a lot work you don't need to fine the best slim. Just put the .0015 try it then the .002. Just keep going in till bolt won't close. then go back one slim and your done
I want to buy a used cz 457 barrel, do you have it and I'm in Vietnam. If you know where I can buy them, can you help me? Thank you very much
Call me crazy, but I don’t think the youtube comment section is the best place to buy/sell/trade.
Very informative. Great video!
Good video. I've ordered my kit. So have you shot it yet to see if it actually improved your groups?
Personally I would torque the barrel nuts to 22lbs then proceed to 44lbs. it's just good practice to split torque specs so it's force is applied evenly. Good stuff, about to check my new 457 Varmint. I'll do a stock testing of ammo then test with different shims on my best ammo from the stock test. Easy enough to change the shims on the shooting bench. Cheers
Nice video all the way around. Thanks!
Great video. Did the shim installation improve accuracy?
Thanks for this, shims ordered and subbed!!
Thanks for sharing!! Nice information
Any feedback regarding reliability and accuracy after trying it out??
The CZ recommended 5.0 newton-meters (44 IP) torque on the grub screws is WAY too high. Use 35 IP and you'll be good to go.
good video dude to the point and you reference where you got the tools you use. Happy shooting!
SO? Did the shim improve the gun?
Get yourself a set of graduated headspace gauges a million times quicker than removing a barrel. But I can say with almost absolute certainty 0.041" - 0.042" is all you will ever need even with eley ammo.
There is a wide variation in rim thickness on .22 ammunition. Why I don't know. How hard can it be to press a good rim?
This is evident in my CZ 457 MTR which is advertised as having a match chamber and headspace on the low end other spec.
Some brands of ammunition chamber well with the bolt closing firmly. Some verge on being tight.
Other ammunition is so loose the bolt closes with little to no force.
My plan is to identify the properly fitting ammunition and find the one the rifle shoots well.
If the ammunition ever changes it will be evident when the bolt is closed.
When do we see the range results?
So I'm assuming the ammo use has a rim thickness of .040. The spec for 22lr ammo is .043 - .007 thick. You may encounter a .043 thick standard spec round and the bolt won't close? My CCI sv usually measures .042
How would you do this on a 452 where you can't remove the barrel?
lol ancient chineeeze secret
OK, I followed the instructions. . . twice and came up with a .009 on my CZ 457 MTR. Is that out of line with normal expectations? Can I double the .004 and .005 shims together to get the .009 needed? Thanks
It does add up to the desired thickness that you need, so go ahead.
I also add some fine gun oil on the shims, but that's me.
Thanks.,.
Going down to "zero" headspace; what's the chance of getting an oddball extra thick rim and detonating the round by closing the bolt?
Probably zero. Closing the bolt on a tight round isn’t the same as a firing pin strike
Verry good, but still missing the accuracy results ❤
Use a caliper in metric system it will help you to read the result faster.
And then take the time to covert all the shims?
Sure was a lot of maysuring. 🤣

I purchased the Bolt Shims for my CZ 457 and tried to review the information on the triggershims web site to better undstand 22 headspacing and recommendations for installation. However, I did not find a good instruction video that walked you through the whole process, UNTILL NOW. You did an outstanding job with this video and I want to say "Thanks". Many of the viewers asked if the accuracy improved with the .003" shim? I have never headspaced a 22 rifle before and decided to purchase the "Triggershims" for my CZ 457. My CZ 457 shoots extremely well, but 1 out of 20 rounds I get a fly when shooting 200 yards. I hope this helps: HOWEVER, I have headspaced many center fire rifles and never left 0.000" headspace. Is the 22 rimfire headspacing different than a centerfire headspace. On my centerfire cases, I always headspace .001" or .002" for extreme long range target shooting. Should the 22 rimfire be allow to have .001" headspace? Like I said, I have never headspaced a rimfire rifle before. I question if zero headspace is correct for a 22 rimfire. Please help me if you can.
If the bolt doesn’t feel too tight at .000 I’d go with it otherwise .001 would be fine.

I would go crazy, when I had to use the imperial system..😂😂😂😂
just get better at shooting
the gun will always be more accurate than you
that was advice from a smith
and he was so right
