Hey Matt! I don't want this to sound too weird but I had a picture of you on my desk at the fire department for years. Actually a pic of you, my son Matthew, and his team mate. It was on his first trip to the Olympic Training Center. You were always one of his idols and when they met you you were very nice to them. Thank you so much. I hope life is going well for you and yours.
How decent of CZ to make a video to show us how to change barrels in the new 457 model. How about producing some barrel kits so that we can take advantage of this fine video production. Otherwise, it's useless.
I ordered one a week ago. Just got it las night. Heads-up. The instructions are a bit different than what you see here. Torque specs are different and they recommend a gunsmith for proper fitment and heads pacing. Ughhh....

Thanks! I want to cut a dovetail for a front peep sight. This breaks it down to a chunk of metal I can handle on my mini-mill. The cut went well....moved my front globe...shoots great.

Great video, thank you. Can the barrels be just as easily changed on the CZ 457 Varmint MTR Bolt Action Rifle please? Thanks for any help. looking to buy the CZ 457 Varmint MTR Bolt Action Rifle .
(I know this post is a year old, but I’m hoping someone sees my comment) Your comment about loosening the front magazine box screw is interesting. The barrel on my recently purchased 457 American was stuck, frozen, wouldn’t budge. CZ sent me a reply saying you "MUST" loosen the rear screw first, and then tighten it only after tightening the barrel set screws once you replace the barrel. I am not technically proficient on gunsmithing in the least, but how is it possible that this CZ gentleman and those in other videos do not even touch either one of those screws and their barrels slide right out?
@@RobertJones-yq6jk - I'm also late to the party...I heard this only affects the 455's, not the 457s. You loosen the rear mag screw 1-2 turns, undo the barrel set screws, exchange barrels, tighten barrel set screws, tighten rear mag screw - done. Hope that helps, cheers...
Do you know of any reason why one would have to loosen the magazine housing "rear screw" before loosening the the barrel. It is locked in the receiver and will not budge a hair unless that screw is loosened first. There is nothing in the manual stating that. No other video I’ve seen, including yours, requires that screw to be loosened first. Any thoughts?

No, there are barrels for the 457 that come that short. If you can look, it's even threaded and everything. There are 457 models that come with 16-18 inch barrels like that.
Will headspace be an issue with authentic CZ barrels when swapping between different calibers? There is information from various online sources that says headspace must be checked even with CZ barrels when going from one caliber to another. Any clarifications on this?
I just received my .17HMR barrel for mu 4567 pro varmint. The instructions state you need a gunsmith for proper initial fitting. I’m guessing head spacing is an issue. They also give different torque specs than what’s given in the video. Lame…
I bought the 22Lr CZ-457 separately and then bought the 17HMR and 22WMR later when they finally got them in stock. It states specifically in the owners manel to check the head space on each barrel because the bolt face and barrel aren't matched at the factory. There's a lot of internet chatter on how important this is. I used Go and No-go gauges because I am an attention to detail personality. If you go this route, make sure you remove the extractors so they don't interfere with the clearance space. Good luck.
Hi, I am one of those who use CZ guns. I currently own both the CZ 512 22 WMR and 456 22LR. I would like to ask you if the dimensions of the barrel base (receiver side)of the CZ 457 and 512, both 22 LR and 22 WMR, have the same dimensions? Simply put, can the barrel of the 457 fit into the receiver of the 512? Thank you very much for answer.
I thought I read on Sportsman Warehouse in the description titles that they did. But you may want to double check for yourself. I may have the wrong model. Not sure.
Haha I call bullcrap. I took my factory barrel out and it did not just slide out like that, which is good, I want tight tolerances but putting the same barrel back in brought me here looking for instructions. It will not just slide right in like that
yes - the 22wmr shares the same mag as the 17hmr, and you'll have to remove the spacer in the mag well as described in this video if you actually have a 22lr setup - otherwise, same procedure
@@qcwallace Do you know if these barrels can be swapped in without requiring shimming? I've read mixed reviews/info that headspace must be checked and address appropriately even if the barrels are authentic CZ barrels.
