Honestly in this season so far, you were quite the architect. Granted this is a new and strange world.
You started to build and farm too low
You did not use spadderdocks
You did not seek immediately a higher ground and settle there
And you started to make a mega project (the flood walls) with only ~30 wood, without a forester hut on a world where tree growing is highly limited because every land will be colonised by the water. How ironic, that a brit will be colonised by their best friend, the water. 😀
I don't wanna sound pessimistic, but if you do not go to a higher level and do not start to use spadderdocks and efficient town layout it will be a shorter season.
Why would you expect a Brit would be able to do a Dutch job well first try?
to use spadderdocks you would need a regulated amount of water which is hard to get with his level of science
@@Notmyname1593 dutch land be like this season XD
spadderdock wouldn't help. you need to process those food in order to consume it. plus at the beginning the water level was too low and rce didnt' know where the water would reach to (now the water is too deep). But i agree with your point he should have found the outflow first and measure the height of the highest water level and build accordingly.
@@takumi2023 I think it's call conducting a terrain survey. You do that before starting anything.
If this season ends early I'd love to see another attempt at this map or something similar in next season. A lot of the challenge with this season was not knowing how quickly the water would rise.
Same, or he should try thousand islands as well
I wonder if Matt secretly does architect-y stuff just to see our reaction, or if he really is an architect?
Two A-words in one sentence is probably a bit too vulgar
@@KingShin It's more to get the point across.
TBH I think the only difference between an architect and an engineer is the budget and how far off the rails the boss lets them go. Boss tells them to stick to a strict budget and objective: they’re an engineer. Boss tells them to do whatever with unlimited budget: they’re an architect.
@@cathygrandstaff1957 well architects build monstrosities, engineers build the strongest shape
There's a little bit of Architect in all of us! Some have more than others though.. 😂
Even if this season fails, I hope you won't get too frustrated and start over with all the new knowledge you now have.
This is such a genius twist on Timberborn and it's been a lot of fun seeing you figure it all out.
If the Beavles come to play, they'll definitely need their yellow submarine.
😊
I’m convinced that an Architect has taken over this season
Honestly if this turned into a TImberborn dedicated channel, I would not mind it one bit. Absolutely LOVE this series
I love RCE Timberborn plays, which is why I actually don't want to get the game because I know i'd get bored of it and wouldn't enjoy this amazing series as much
I would miss the poly bridge videos though
Not what you expected when you put everything next to the water and ignored the giant plot of dry land that was 3 levels higher.
I am pretty sure doing youtube destroys peoples games.... he is making dumber choices as the year goes on haha
@@TheBanana93 I noticed some recordings I made a while back, were too efficient and focused. So I drunk a lot and tried one again. Really terrible gaming wise but fun to watch... I decided to upload neither.
It would be less interesting if he breezed right through it
@@AreUmygrandson yeah if he was using his full engineer power it would be a science show but the school type boring
@@liamnehren1054 u should upload both
Don't forget about spadderdock so you can use land for other things. Also you could build things like barracks and storage on top of one another, a bit like that skyscraper you made in an early season, so that you maximise the amount of things you can get into the available floor space that isn't flooded. Plus it means that if the lower levels get flooded you've built in redundancy and have got other unflooded levels available to use.
that's how I play, vertical as fuck, it allowed my to have a colony of over 300 beavers in one district and still have room to expand. my storage is in skyscrapers, my houses are in skyscrapers, I've put down a metric fuck ton of platforms to allow building over water and walkways. basically my entire bottom layer is farmland and pumps cover a whole section of the main river. I've basically turned the Folktails into industrialists
Beavers can work on blocks above their head, so you didn't need to build all of those levies to remove the dams, you only needed one. Also, if you need to build a scaffold, a beaver can build it from the top down more easily because they'll build the bottom platform first, even if they're several squares above it.
You only have a range of (I think) 75 'tiles' away from the District Center, each set of stairs, counts as 2 tiles, so using platforms (where possible, though expensive) will increse the 'distance' reach by not using stairs ;)
Interesting, and can be useful for me and my playthrough
Yup. First thing I do when playing is run straight lines in all directions from my district center. Helps maximize the area you can reach which is valuable in mid to late game.
@@CSmall28 rce and district managing XD
all other timberborn players : so ezz.
rce : *kills beavers as soon as he has more than one district*
70 tiles is the number. I didn't know stairs counted as two tiles, I always assumed they counted as one, good to know!
@@Trendyflute stairs are a tile forward and a tile up/down which results in 2 tiles of travel.
The Water World really looks interesting, and kind of inverts the game logic. No wonder Matt is having troubles dealing with the water. Also, lo and behold, these beavers are knee deep in water and they might just die of thirst
It would be cool to see a mythbuster season for this game too. Like is it really possible to pump faster than the sources can flow?
It certainly is, I have seen another YT creator (I belive his name is Telokram) successfully suck out completely the supply of one water source on a hardcore one source map... so the more plentiful sources on this map are definitely possible to suck out too but would require dozens of pumps - therefore not really a practical solution.
Technically possible, but absolutely not reasonable.
The new storages make it a lot easier to ‘pre-load’ a new district with supplies. At the edge of your existing district, Bang down a few small warehouses and piles, and a tank, set them to food, water, and logs, let them fill up, then put in your gate and district and have a pre-stocked district.
or you build a transfer and a receiving station and just move stuff to the new district. I'm a bit baffled by how difficult he makes this.
Of course that means even this weak excuse for the stupid new storage system is gone. When it would have needed just a checkbox to make it optional.
@@5Andysalive i always build the distribution post and receiving post, but I like to pre-stock the new district like I said, that way I don’t have beavers waiting around for goods to show up when I migrate the population in, they have everything they need to get to work, plus a buffer in storage against slow distribution.
I'm a simple person. I see RCE and Timberborn and I hit like.
Yes
Same we are simple people
We have so much in common!!!!
Indeed
I saw Waterworld in the title and assumed Kevin Costner was in this episode.
I like how he said he'll make spadderdock then proceeds to burn what little land was left for more farmland
Seeing you not put a water pump in the cisterns area was painful. Also that plan to preload the district with supplies works better with a hauling post because you can set the storages to procure supplies from other storages so the haulers know to haul a bunch of berries and whatnot over to your new district.
Building the hauling post in an emergency isnt the smartest thing to do, though
He's more architect now than engineer. Twisted and evil.
I really like the new storage system, that makes it so you don't end up with a million berries late game.
Two thoughts:
Platforms could be incredibly valuable for this season.
It would be amazing to be able to upgrade your district center to widen its range.
You need to dynamite a layer where you cleared the way out. Although I also thought the best way to not flood was to pump all the water with maximum pumps. Both to stop it coming over and also I'm thinking to pump it back out again at this point where it's gone over...
Something I did when needing to set up a temporary distract for something (like draining).
Instead of doing the storage switch like you do, use the Drop Off and Distribution centers. Each drop off place can hold up to 300 resources of any mix. So you can send 100 logs, 100 planks, 50 food, and 50 water ALL to the same small 2x2 storage so beavers have food, water, and building supplies. Beavers in the distract that has the drop off point will take from it if they need something, like food to eat. That way you can store everything you need for a temp distract in a 2x2 building that is free to build! You just need to set up a Distribution Center in your main distract and set up the routes so beavers will deliver goods.
The only draw back to this is that the Distribution Center is Unnecessarily big. Bigger then your Barracks, for no reason.
He did this in other series. The problem is the science cost up front, to much this early. And the distribution post takes a lot of planks.
FYI, when building, if the door is connected to the district center, the path will light up as if the center was selected. A little tip to know if your building will be connected once built.
If you make the paths as straight as possible rather than twisting and turning around corners, you can reach further. As for the debris blockage at the map drainage point, you didn’t need the extra layer of levee and stairs, beavers can construct/demolish 1 tile up. Multiple sets of stairs can take more resources than just a few platforms to go straight across a ditch
This is a fun challenge. Not sure the timberborners will make it through this season, but I hope you try it again!
You KNOW things have gone wrong when your water is underwater.
It's like in SpongeBob
You should block of 3 water sources (on the edge near starting district) using levees (you can get wood from trees at the place). Just make so that water goes of the map. You won't have any problems with flooding any more
I said in the comments of the last video. RCE needs to build a small district at the edges of the map by the water sources, until he can construct a safe area in the lower sections.
RCE to take the entire video to notice he’s still high prioritizing everything xD
Love the video
This is the most anxiety-inducing series RCE has ever done.
It’s partly because he’s been acting like a bit of an Architect this season.
I was scared the damn would solve everything.
Good to know that there's more to come.
Before the video even began. I was already singing the song. It's living Rent free in my head
I have almost 100 hours in Timberborn (exposed to it by RCE), but after about 10 hours, I was completely sick of districts.
In my review at that time, I wrote: "The districts concept really sucks the fun out of the society management sim and turns it into non-stop micromanagement. You will spend all your time past the first hour or two fiddling with your districts and trying to shuttle resources back and forth. It's very painful."
I solved the problem by modding it away with District Extender by PB_Ozai.
I think the game could be fun as "stock" with districts if they were to add a building like an "Outpost" that extends the build/pathing range, but the devs seem insistent on districts being a core mechanic, and it's a HUGE drag on the game being unreservedly fun.
It’s 4 in the morning in Australia but this just dropped. Guess I’m staying up a bit longer
I have a my first university exam in three days and just got a panicattack. Just hearing the Timberborners intro completely cured it. Thanks Matt you're amazing.
I can't wait for the next episode. This is so tense and the first time in a long time I've seen a real life-threatening challenge. I don't think your colony will make it out of this one though. But please start it again as it's a great mod.
That singing intro - such a troll I love it XD
Not sure if you realize, Matt, but a 19 hour work day is the ideal early game setting. I typically use 19 hour days until I reach a point where I'm building QOL buildings. End game is usually 12-14 hour days.
I tried this map and realized I could build up on the wall near the start. One of the water sources is green year round and surrounded by wood.
I built a staircase, moved my town center, and was able to build down and do the Dutch drain land for farms thing at my leasure.
where can we find thus map?
Yeah where can we find it
where can you find this map?
I think I would have built on top, but also have super prioritized the destruction of the dam to release water IF it got too high, but also prioritized getting dynamite unlocked so you could at least make a channel down in that area so that you would have 2 levels down draining water, because at the top of the area it drains out, will only save the highest land...
I would now up top, prioritizing getting dynamite built over in the second district, get water pumps going there because there's quite a deep area to get water from, and ofc farm the area, and hopefully the mix of water pumping constantly and tons of water will allow you to keep the water levels kind of lower until you get dynamite and you're able to cut the drainage area down 2 levels (one will still flood your old farms and things)
Just a suggestion if you're planning on building a new colony; Build the flood barriers first, or raise the whole 'city' up in the air, then build the city. Means when the flood water rises, you're sitting above the water. :)
Fun Fact: Builder's Huts can expand your building/demolition range if you pit it near the edge of your normal building range. The red lines from your district center only tell how far the beavers are willing to go to get to their job/sleeping place. If you put a builder's hut at the edge of your district range, you can build projects like... say... dams or demolition jobs instead of making a new district for it.
i love how matt forgets the beavers need food and water every episode 😂😂😂
Mat should definitely make myth buster episodes in this game. I mean, could the beavers pump the water faster than it spawns?
Facts we all know about Matt:
He hates architects
He should be a professional singer
The timberborners series is secretly him finding out the best way to shame, murder and destroy architects.
His dog paddy is the cutest thing in the world.
He’s unlocked the secret power of the most efficient shape, and is preaching to the world the greatness of the most efficient shape.
he probably hasnt found the surprise yet so he's still being an architect right now
I just caught myself singing along to the intro xD
It’s stuck in my head now xD
first-ever city building game i watched that made me this stressed out and nervoused
The Timberborners theme song fills me with some much needed dopamine. Truly a necessity in life.
all we need now are beaver jetskis so it can actually be Waterworld
My names on a beaver? HELLLLL YEAHHHH!!!
This is the first youtube video I watched after getting out of the mental institution and im so overwhelmed with emotion I'm crying thank you so much for uploading this and making this day so much better for me than I could imagine 😭
I've lacked entertainment beyond talking coloring and mazes and some tv shows I don't care about for over a week to the point I re liked the video 5 times because it made a cool colorful effect I never noticed, I took so much in life for granted and I'm so grateful for life and to be free again
RCE - when you were trying to get logs and planks to the cisterns are go district, you got a bunch of logs there by building and demolishing the building…you could have built something that used planks and then demolished it, there is a bit of loss in the process but it could have been quicker…
The amount of anxiety you have in this season must feel like actual engineering lol
Welcome back to Timberborners 🎶
They should make tiles with water (in which beavers can swim) count as road.
I will never accept the shaming of the Enterprise. Only an architect would do such a thing.
Right? If the name was NCC-1864, I could understand!!!
Maybe Scotty’s driving it right now. I think he actually did in at least one episode. 🤔
Timberborn is the only series I still watch on this channel
When you don’t get your “HELLO FELLOW ENGINEERS AND WELCOME BACK TO. “
😪
But you get a RCE song instead 🥳🥳🥳
Matt should use water dumps to dump water off the map
A sort of cheaty way to cheaply build a bridge is to use the small warehouses. They are the cheapest thing you can build on top of.
That new district could be used as a tree/crop farm
the game: everyone, stock as much water as possible, a drought is incoming
RCE: yaaay, finally
I'd love to see more of "the line", the beavers are killing in it
Welcome back to tim-ber-borners! 🎶 😄 Always know a happy time is a-comin' when you hear that jingle. While I'm mildly disappointed in the new storage update, I still love this game, one of the best games in years and I love Timberborners, one of the best game series on YT!
Engibury slowly turning into Dam Nation :)
Are you aware you can just blow up your district center and move it closer to where you want things to be? Just make sure the community has access to water and food in the new location. Then just move it back after you're done constructing.
You forgot you can unlock platforms with the amount of points you have, a lot cheaper to build compared to dams. Make platforms for your buildings, the green of the island for food, the rest on platforms 2 higher than water.
Yay, Timberborn Thursday!!!
From what I have seen of the previous season if these beavers can use it you might need to make dynamite to lower the ground where the exit flow will be
I sing a Timberborner song every night as I fall asleep. Thanks for the new tradition, RCE!
After following this channel for so long now, I’m so happy with all the success RCE has been seeing here recently!
Shit hit the fan real quick lol
Lmao, I was just watching the previous episode of this. And just as I'm done I see a new one. Perfect Timing! xDDDD
I thought beavers could build/demolish from 2 blocks above or below... Did they change this?
Also... Matt!!! There's literally a button to set priority levels for everything you drag a box around. There's no need to select each individual building to set priority.
But... But NCC-1701 *IS* a wonderful piece of engineering with tons of talented engineers abroad, including Scotty. How dare you shame themmmmmm????
Shame SHAME SHAME SHAME SHAME
It's close, but get that farm built, and those additional water pumpers, plus the wall, and then you should be in a good position to hold out until you can get some dynamite to make that hole bigger to lower the level
The intros gets me. Great intro and video RCE.
who else saw the flood coming when rce put most of his buildings on the lower tiles on episode 1 lol
Loving the intro!!!
Coy going from buff to smarts
Love from India bro 😍i have been watching all of your videos since 1.5 years ago .keep growing and keep enjoying us😇
if you demolish filled tanks (or other storing spaces) you get the most of the resources back within the scrap pile. That could be interesting if you need the resources of the demolished buildings really fast.
1:31 THE STRONGEST SHAPE!!!
Nice vid man! Appreciate your work
Curious how many beavers it would take pumping water to offset the amount of water being produced by water sources. Maybe do a myths of timberborners like city skyline 😅
Keep up your good work I love this song😂
City skylines myth that needs to be busted: Matt is unable to not roast architects for a whole video
just so you know RCE, you dont need to build stuff up to touch. beavers can build adjacent to any cliff, regardless of height. you would have not needed the levies at the barriers.
at least i remember it being so.
THE HOLY ENGINEER RETURNS
You need to unlock dynamite to make the place where the water leaves the map lower, and not flood, maybe get back the blocks you , or well the layer you lost, thanks for unshaming Coy
More more more more...please
If the mod community and developers come and clutch this can be a Golden Goose for your Channel I love it so much
I can't be the only one who sings along right?????
“ aghhhh were in trouble- OOOOOHHH the carrots r done “
🤣🤣🤣
I can't see how he's going to come back from this. Don't leave us hanging!
Band name for all cisterns go district:
Cistern of a Down
You can use the small storage in place of levee or platform! Only 3 logs or so!
Once a engineer always a engineer is what I say
So excited. RCE + Timborn = happy me
Timberdrowners
when damned dam is not enough to fight the rising tide
On this map it’s scarily accurate…. Timberdrowners 😅
